I just recently snagged a dell latitude 7490 used for $56 & it just had a bad stick of ram & the seller just didn't care to fix so i slapped 16gb of ram & a 500gb m2 that i had laying around with a fresh linux install & this thing is crazy value with a 8th gen core i7 so if you look around enough you can find a crazy deal

13:45 The issue with this is that not all eWaste places will give these away(even without a HD) or even sell them They "recycle" them ie give them to a vendor who will just 1 throw them away 2 send them to Africa to be dumped there 3 send them to China to be dumped there It's a MAJOR issue here and it's literally a WASTE and it needs to change I was able to go to a eWaste place and get some computers thereonce I took them home, refurbished, cleaned them and was able to give them(free) to people who needed them Went back 4 months later and they were all no no no no nope nope get out, we don't do that , our vendors pay us to recycle to them, you'll get in trouble if we give/sell you one Yeah it's bad

Worth noting that the 10 year old retina MacBook Pro that I just replaced with a 15 inch MacBook Air scored several times higher than this thing does in cinebench I think it was over 1200 😂

For the price new I think it's a great machine what more do you want for under 50$ The macbook from 2009 won't beat that thing with it's mechanical hdd 14 yr old probably dead battery and dropped support from Apple Maybe a 2011 used macbook might match it's performance but they are x2 the price used and still like 12 years old The only thing I think can even match it at that price point used chromebook

I got a cheap little Coda netbook for £90 Came with windows 10 which struggled and took ages to run probably because of all the bloatware fitted In the end I installed Lubuntu and it runs quite well in basic tasks such as web browsing and emails which is what I want it for - to take on holiday or away to events

Another You Tube computer reviewer that buys a cheap laptop, is negative about it, and runs Cinebench as if someone is gonna use it to edit video Its a shame I watched this person to get a good look at this laptop The answer to your first question "who is this for?" The answer is not you, and most likely nobody that watches your videos We dont all need the best stuff to just browse the web This is perfect for kids that tear things up for 50 bucks We dont all have access to Mac money Does it work? This has a quadcore celeron chip, quite good reallybrbrMy mum bought (for £150!!) an asus laptop with a dual core celeron processor in 2019 It's a lovely machine but almost all tasks make it 100 CPU usage Web browsing is possible but a struggle Its such a shame as the rest of the laptop is quite nice perhaps the quadcore intel version would be better

The HAM radio people like them for their mobile radio setups because they are cheap to replace if they are lost or damaged, so basically because they are e-waste Though I honestly think the bigger e-waste problem is all the T2 and newer Macs that schools and corporations are retiring that are absolutely useless due to them being account locked

I bought a little Dell with similar specs for my son a bunch of years ago and it became effectively unusable with Windows I wiped it and installed linux (used Zorin as it's relatively lightweight) and it's not a speed demon but is fairly usable for web browsing, word processing (using LibreOffice), and other simple tasks I'll often travel with this because it's very small and quite rigid, and if anything happened to it I wouldn't care There are also free versions of Chome OS that may be more accessible than linux for some users

Interesting video Thanks for posting If I had to guess I would say that this and similar machines are manufactured to be Chromebooks With such a superlight OS they can actually run quite fast However, the makers know that not everyone likes Chrome and they realise that it will just about stand a Windows version to increase market share So they load it with Windows at which point it becomes only borderline useable

I agree with the final message of the video, but you gotta compare oranges to oranges There's absolutely NO reason anyone would ever need a macbook for anything if they're looking to save money Why didn't you open up searching for a windows machine? brwhether or not you buy a 14 year old mac or this laptop, you'll end up with E-waste as you call it in a year or two

The worst laptop was Kogan - really crap but it worked and it was $32900 and Lenovo was similar as well - only meant to last 6-12 months Best brand was Dell and HP gaming laptop depends on your budget as well HP Envy is a good brand

no full specs in the video but as far as i see it, the battery can be replace fairly easily and the rest of the specs are what they are meaning if it can do what you want it to now, it can do what you want it to in 10 years therefore its not ending up in the ewaste bin anytime soon but yeah, the type of memory storage this laptops seem to use isn't the greatest and 4GB of ram isn't really much with modern web browsers

I have a $150 N4020 4GB chromebook More or less the same piece of “e-waste” I’ve used it for 25 years I take it when I travel I still have 4 more years of ChromeOS support I also run Linux Mint XFCE on it It gets the job done for a cheap travel laptop that I don’t mind breaking, losing, or getting stolen brbrFor $50 an N3350 running lightweight Linux is usable for many simple things Yeah my phone is more powerful but sometimes it’s nice to have a bigger screen and a keyboard and mouse Even with a slower device, having proper inputs makes it more productive
