We're heading into back to school season again and in the UK we have school uniform My eldest his school require logoed uniform 😓 It's so expensive And with my younger 2 I can't do hand-me-downs cuz they destroy them but they're about £2 each unbranded

I have 3 kids and I have NEVER SPENT that ever! I average about 100 bucks maxbut I don't buy back to school clothes We buy those for Bdays, Christmas, Easter and as needed

Sometimes I'm really suprised about the US I live in the Netherlands, I'm a teacher, and we buy all the school supplies for the kids The parents have to buy nothing!

I got my son's Pre-K backpack from pottery barn Glad I got the small instead of the prek sized one BUT next year he will be reusing it since it cost so much I love your tips He's not interested in first day of school clothes I don't think But he can pick out his lunch box (if the one from this year isn't tattered) and one other thing for Kindergarten

Hi! I Love to whatch your Videos! I'm mum of five boys We are german, but while I'm watching the videos it's bretty much the same here I don't buy my sons anything new for school, I prefer that the grandparents buy my boys some new cloth for Birthday So this is the gift Form them and they also spend time with only this one child!

I see so many back to school dreads and I'm not sure why Perhaps because I only take one child at a time or b/c we only stick to the school list and bare essentials if any clothes are needed I love taking my son shopping for back to school- he reads the list and we budget as we go He just started 4th grade and it's perfect for helping him determine what he "wants" vs what is "needed" When he's with me, I actually find myself buying less since we made this a learning opportunity It works so well bc he gets to pick his one splurge item if he's within budget with the whole list Iehe got the essentials and smaller packs of the basics and got to splurge a little more on his ear buds Thank you for breaking it down some, helps me see why other parents my be frustrated

Our kids get to pick out an outfit for the first day of school and an outfit for picture day, and that's it Their grandma usually gets them bookbags filled with snacks as an Easter gift, so we just save those bookbags until the start of the next school year

Love love love! How you're addressing your older daughters needs or should I say WANTS For the last couple of years, our daughter earns her own money And she now knows how much she has to work to pay for what she wants But, I was thinking as she turns 9 next year, she is definitely going to have an opinion on what she would like more Especially with kids fashion and trends That is very smart! As far as now, what works is that (1) she knows we buy second hand FIRST We have our sizes and buying schedule for each school year, that's when she gets "new to her" clothes She also knows that we (2) do not buy a new backpack every year, if the old one is still usable and in good condition (3) Mom has the ultimate say in all purchases, because mom is the one who works hard for the money that will be buying it, and when she makes her own money to buy clothes, it still has to fall under our house modesty rules However she does know that (4) she does have a say in what style, color, design, or picture we buy on her clothing, I give her options on the one's mom already approved If it's something I love but she hates, its a no It is her body and I want her to feel comfortable in it For example, she looks absolutely gorgeous in button up tops with ruffles, SHE HATES THEM So we don't buy them Our shopping list for school is: 6 bottoms, 2 sport shorts, 10 tops, 2 dresses, hoodie, and tennis shoes

We also homeschool and supply when needed My biggest challenge is our older friends that pass down clothes, we are drowning! I had just gotten my 10yo clothes to where they were minimal and in her tast, now she’s been inundated with all new items that don’t necessarily match the other items in her closest

Great tips I agree with you Especially about kids having too many clothes It's crazy how many clothes some of my friends buy for their kids It makes no sense when they grow so fast Also, I love your idea about how to teach kids the value of something My nieces and nephews have cell phones already and they've lost/broken several They may have treated them better if they had contributed to the cost

Great video, I love your kind and fun videos! How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time (How do you pay for 5 children's school supplies?) At the beginning of summer, each pay period we buy a supply for all 5, all the glue, next pay check all the erasers, etc At the end of summer we have only a few things to buy that are now on sale and it didn't take a huge bite out of our budget for August

My kid is going to change schools so he needs new and different stuff but I will see what I can find out home so I don't need to buy Here they ask to buy wet wipes And we are zero waste and I hate the waste of the wipes so I never get the teachers the wipes 😶

I have never understood buying new school clothes I never got a new wardrobe when school started but I always got new items as I needed them This is the same thing we have done with our children Like you, we live in a 4 season state so new shorts and tshirts would get little wear before the colder months and likely wouldn't fit by next Spring/Summer

My son is just starting school this year, and I agree with shopping alone! It makes things so much easier I did participate in a local thrift store's 1/2 price kid's clothes sale recently, and was able to find some brand-new with tags shirts I don't go too much out of my way for brands, but for jeans I do like Gap and for kid's shirts I love Cat + Jack (especially from their sensory sensitive line with no tags, since I end up cutting those off anyway) Great tips!

I agree with all this! I don't even buy long sleeve shirts because #1The class room has heat, #2 they take a hoodie or cardigan in case they get cold, #3 they use the sleeves to paint, suck on, wipe their nose or mouth or push it up altogether and #4 They wear a coat outside We also reuse anything they can from last year I only buy what they NEED now and give teachers things like wipes, Kleenex, glue etc at Christmas or teacher appreciation as gifts

We homeschoolso my kids are wearing their five shirts and pants from their clothing basket 😂 and use old crayons until they are nubs😂😂! And for whatever reason people just pass supplies on to us because, "you homeschool" We almost have too much stuff!!

I'm saving this year by reusing items At the end of last school year the kids brought home a pile of supplies in varying conditions I was able to take many of these, supplement any missing colors etc from our home supply and check off about half the list! Glad to be shopping for less this year
