Jacob Guitar
Thanks for the information I've been working on trying to figure out how to incorporate diminished chords into my playing and you just explained it so well Unbelievable how simple the patterns and shapes are with the way you broke it down This opened up a whole other chapter in my knowledge and I'm already having a blast using the chords to modulate and jump to the different voicings Definitely feel like this is going to get me out of that rut
Comment from : Jacob Guitar

Jon Collins
In our Lutheran hymnal, one of our canticles modulates from Dm to G at the end by going Dm - C - F - Bb - Adim7 - Gmin7 - D/F# - G It sounds awesome!brbrGreat video!

Wish I could give more likes Your presentations have been quite amazing from what I have seen so far I can follow you considerably more effortlessly than Ted Greene, who I had previously turned to when trying to increase my music theory and how it applies to the guitar After watching this I have determined woodshedding these ideas and techniques will definitely help me And that video you did on shell chords was an awesome one also Live Long and Prosper Jared🎶

huey hoolihan
chords are built in thirds and if you are using the first seven letters of the alphabet to denote the tones in a four note chord you are limited to the following groupings of letters in the key of C major: CEGB, DFAC, EGBD, FACE, GBDF, ACEG and BDFA and if the chords are fully diminished four note chords the first one will by necessity be spelled CEbGbBbb brbrhence, the rather confusing B double flat it just about spelling chords correctly, is all it is considered pedantic to insist on a correct spelling unless one is writing a treatise on traditional harmony, howeverbrbrhere are the other fully diminished chords as spelled correctly in the key of C major: DFAbCb, EGBbDb, FAbCbEbb, GBbDbFb, ACEbGb and DFAbCb you'll notice the other instance (E double flat) of a double flatted note and the unusual instances of C flat and F flat again it's all about spelling

Phil Norris
Remember kids, always look in the mirror In the major world C leads to F first but G leads back to C in the reflection - via those nice leading notes E and B - and that's a telltale interval at 2:3 or is it 3:4? There's 2 things going on here not one, majors - minors, odds and evens and a 3-6-9-12 diminished square looks a lot like G7b9, E7b9, Db7b9 or Bb7b9
Comment from : Phil Norris

NotMarkKnopfler
I think of the bb7 (double flat 7) as simply differentiating the note from the 'normal' dominant 7th of the scale For example, if we take the key of C, the dominant 7th would be Bb (B flat) So there could be a temptation to associate the 7th in a diminished chord with the dominant 7 of the scale, which would be incorrect As you pointed out, the 7th in a C diminished is actually an A - one tone down from Bb (the C scale dominant 7th!), so calling it a double flat 7 is actually a good choice 🙂

Tim Smith
I can see how the dim7 chord is built from the 7th dergee of harmonic minor but how does that figure into the whole-half dim scale which also can build the dim 7 chord Should you use the scale from the 7th degree of harmonic minor or the whole-half dim scale to play over dim 7 chords?
