Very helpfullnow i know why my shoulders & wrists used to hurt after long rides Comment from : Heil PEPE |
Your body position advice only covers dirt bikes and cruisers On a sport bike, your knees will be bent more than just a chair sitting position brbrNot a bad video, but it doesn't fully help those of us on sport bikes lol Comment from : croaton07 |
thanks for this very helpful Comment from : A Valte |
I move all over my bike on longer rides to get comfortable Some times i hop on the rear seat and steer by leaning side to side With cruise control its kinda nice getting to stretch you legs a bit Comment from : Mayln W |

Well said👍 Comment from : Jet Jaguar |

Excellent information for this “experienced” rider 25 plus years, sport and small cruiser bikes and now HD ‘84 Shovelhead I have always monitored my body position for comfort and stability etc but this put everything in perspective 👍& Sub Comment from : John Martlew |
Yeah, pretty good (maybe a little LONG) COMMENT: Some of your suggestions do not work for certain bikes / conditions - picture a Bandit 12 or ZRX You can't have your arms bent all the time and you simply can't ride on the balls of your feet all day; you would exhaust yourself Otherwise video well done! OMG I HAD THAT SAME MOTORCYCLE, A BETA MOTARD 200! so weird seeing it outside Argentina Comment from : El Felon |
I’m not sure if this is entirely true, because I have done track racing and I feel very comfortable with a more forward leaning position I do maintain an upright position slower and in heavy traffic, but I actually lean forward and get behind the windscreen when I am going over 70 My upper body and my wrist are conditioned where I don’t feel any uncomfort in the forward leaning position… I am exclusively a hyper bike rider and a dirt bike rider I do not ride Enduro’s Comment from : Average Joe |
Question: You showed us upright-sitting bikes and crouched-sitting bikes, but what about those in between, like sport-touring types? Comment from : Mario Bernard |
With that seating position, about 1/2 of your input goes into turning the bars the other 1/2 is wasted energy Also, that may not be comfortable It's important to be comfortable on a motorcycle Comment from : Edge of Entropy |
I don't agree with the footing position, you need your feet as close to the controls as possible, this is for the quickest reactions Toes not out, but tucked under the gear sifter when speeding up, on top when at speed Toes tucked in and always on top of the rear break This also helps clamp your knees to the the bike too! Depends on the bikebrPersonally I would NEVER be caught dead (well maybe Dead, but not while I am alive) rising any of my bikes with my elbows at my sidebrJust hop on a bike and have someone shake your front wheel back n forth Straight and elbows down often cause the handle bard to shake your shoulders brMine are always out and on the motor cross bikes,,, even slightly above my wrists and outside my shouldersbrNot that I've had a history of great road bikes XL250 motorsport, GSX250ED, GSX750EG, GSX550EF and a million trail bikes from Gemini 80 up to YZ250 2 pokesbr(I was going to buy an FZR1000 but when I found myself comfortably sweeping round an uphill motorway in near stopped traffic at 100kph on the cats eyes I decided to stick with the old whale ESG (I challenge anyone fo find a larger, more comfortable seat on any sport bike (Rode 3 up round Manfield race track in comfort)brbrThe same has ported to the down hill mountainbiking Loose relaxed grip, elbows up (even when cruising) and no matter what hits the front, the forearms can leap around but the shoulders remain steadybrOf course I was never sat upright, it was always a slight crouch forward and I had adjustable clipons on the ESD, not the 6" risers they came with Meant on long cold runs I could belly the tank and still have a good arm positionbrbrnever straight arm a bikebrbrAll bikes have a slightly different riding position not every bike suits a rider So many bikes are made in Japan for the Japanese market Great if your 5'5" (like the NZ250) but not when your 5'11" Something I have always had issue with Cars have adjustable seats/pedals MTB have different framesbrRoadbikes people seem happy to put up with just because they like the lookbr(We modified the pegs on a couple of bikes specially race bikes Even reversed a gear lever to 1up 5 down to clear it off the track (or at least my mates toes that would touch tarmac under the leverbrbrAnd rear brakes are the devil 90 useless on the road 100 useless on the race track (I knew an F2 rider who put an alloy rear rotor on with 15" holes in it (with 18" padsbrPassed scrutineering but if he touched it in a race, would probably have disappeared but no issue he never touched them in any racebr(oddly my fasted cornering on the trailbikes for years was on an old IT200s that had a drum rear that would last 30 mins in a ride so I would gas it into a corner, hard on the front to the point where the rear was in the air, turn in, releasing the brakes and open the throttle Only when I got the 1st YZ250 did I corner faster with working rear brakes Comment from : The Butler |
for throttle control it might help to have the right forearm in line with the handlebar grip, holding the throttle like an ice cream cone Throttle control is a function of body position, attention and practice Comment from : Daniel Ruegemer |

I don't care if someone thinks I'm a noob when seeing me I did 5200 km in 2 weeks You sit differently depending on situation - I don't care how do I sit when I'm on highway with cruise control enabled For doing hours of that kind of riding I can look as a noob - the only thing I care is my comfort When it comes to riding twisty roads I focus and sit differently - exactly how you describe Don't judge someone chilling at town or highway - you don't have to always be a Rossi Comment from : mYOUsic |

Hes just not used to having to ride face down ass up But he'll get on the same level as the rest of the crotch rocket riders once his prostate loosens up Comment from : Ben Miller |

You will find me in those weird positions when my back and butt get sore Comment from : HOLD FAST |
Too many sold motorbikes have the seat wayyyyyy too far back, so people need risers and adjustments to get the handlebars closer Supermoto and motocross bikes are the only ones that give you the opportunity to choose were you are seated for any given situation, touring, sport or whatever it is you are doing Comment from : PahaLukki |
One crucial tip for those not used to the knees and struggling with it,brTurn your toes towards the front wheel, it naturally moves your knees into the tank Comment from : Chickenmanic Mrt |
Anyone who rides a horse will find this all very obvious Comment from : Steven Griggs |
Other than foot position this is very good presentation As for what you're proposing for foot position this is more of a racing position than for riding streets Not too comfy and no benefit for regular rider Comment from : yaro137 |
Driving since 40 years many different bikes It is not only that the correct position is not taught the beginner The average people becoming much taller the last decades but the bikes are still tailored to a 1950s dwarf I am 57 years old and 200cm tall The only bike that fits to me perfect was my good old BMW R80 G/S The most horrible bike was , although beautiful and reliable, the SR500brWhen I sat on it, I could cover my ears with my knees The manufactureres should update their measurements… Comment from : S D |
who that fuck are you to decide my way of riding is wrong are paul Torres ? Comment from : juan torres |

thats something i noticed when i took a corner super fast i leant in and did everything correctly but i leant so hard that my shoe scraped on the ground everything was fine it just caught me off guard and taught me a lesson to have the balls of my feet on the pegs Comment from : Girthquake |

Never use more than the first two fingers on the levers Newbies always use all 4 fingers … Comment from : Ma3stro |

Few things I'd like to add my two cents too:brbr1) great video that covered a lot of ergonomics about the rider triangle and showed a rider POV for how it looks, not just an infographicbrbr2) you can't argue with physics Physics provides optimal rider position for performance and/or safety; HOWEVER, at the end of the day it is impossible to focus on the road, safety, lap times, etc if you are focused on muscle cramps amd fatigue from forcing your body into uncomfortable positions Try to match the optimal position but adjust where needed to avoid excessive discomfortbrbr3) gonna hurt people's feelings here, but don't complain to people about not being comfortable if you chose what are essentially race bikes for city traffic or long commutes Furthermore, some bikes are just big or small just like people come in all sizes Not every bike will fit you and that's ok, find a better option for your bodybrbr4) lastly, riding is more physically involved than people would think, especially for sports bikes and track riders Even if you're just casually riding a cruiser, being in shape will allow your body to avoid overheating on hot days more efficiently Before throwing money to modify every part of your bike, make sure you put some time into caring for yourself physically Comment from : Little Green |

most bikes - not all though - regardless of category , are well designed and anyone within the standard range of body size / limbs ratio can easily find the best stance , where it fits like a glove , that's when you feel no stress whatsoever in any part of the body , and the control is a breeze Comment from : Florin-Titus Niculescu |

Would be great to watch similar advices for sport touring motorcycles over long trips Even my NTV650 had kind of shrimp sitting position and I suffered a lot during 20 hours a day riding trips Used a pillow on the seat, used a pillow on the fuel tank Once speed goes down, aerodynamic lifting force goes away and gravity kills my arms, hands and buttocks Also shrimp position really hard on blood circulation in my legs I do not know how so many people even can do 6-8 hours a day on these motorcycles They must be a machine The only comfortable motorcycle for me so far was Honda VTX1800 Comment from : Edward Krapovnitsky |

Useful information thanks I really found the tip about reaching forward to hold the throttle useful, because before that |I could not get the bike to accelerate no matter what I did! brBut found another good reason for racing forward and placing my hands on the handlebar grips; it helps to hold the front wheel in line When I rode without holding the bars the bike would just crash Anyway, after a few hospital visits and a few motorcycles, I think I've solved the problem, as I say Or am I just lucky? brThe only problem I find with reaching to hold the grips is that I can't scratch my back! That's why I always ride with a model with long fingernails as a pillion passenger Which is the reason I got a motorcycle anyway brJOking! Good video Comment from : Woodkeeper Jakbop |

I have been riding for 17 years at least and I must say, it is very nice to refresh and check my technique with videos like this to make sure I am not developing bad habits I am no stranger to finding that good habit practice and checking one's self can save one from what could have been a crash Good technique will vastly increase your chances of a safe riding experience, not just for yourself but for others you may be riding with Comment from : Gearheads and Godly |

The official motorcycle handbook for Ontario (in Canada) says to "drive with your wrists low to keep you from increasing your speed by mistake" Ergonomically, that does sound bad, but it's interesting to see varying viewpoints Comment from : GaijinMo |

I used to ride 3 times a week in one of the most advanced canyons in California, Del Puerto, Mines and Jumction, one once a week to 49 or Alice’s Took Keith code level 1 to 3, but I stopped ridding 13 years ago when I started my businessbrTwo months ago I bought a new bike, and I rode it for the first time yesterday around the block, scared as shit, confused, and everything that’s said in this video, BUT Jesus Christ it felt so great to be back on a bike :) Comment from : zyou8er |

I have been riding fast for 30 years I watch hours of motorcycling videos each week BTW I have never commented on a youtube video before I had to stop what I was doing and go to the laptop to comment: YES! This guy gets it! Every single part of this video should be studied by the new rider who thinks he is just naturally better than most other riders Toes on the pegs, forward to the tank, knees clamping, elbows loose and down to the tank, zero handlebar input at the apex of a turn Your spine should never be "erect" This shit is life or death info for those who want to push it Watch the video again, maybe twice Nice job bro Comment from : T M |
I love your videos and the way you so eloquently explain every topic Thank you! Comment from : Brett Rinn |

Cool tip with the paper between your knees against the tank , I have never heard that before Comment from : midgetmayo |
This information is half correct, Arm and body position depends also on seating position of the bike design, whether it's Rearward, Neutral or Forward pegs are set either forward like on cruisers, or Rearward like on sports bikes or neutral like on dirt bikes, dual sport, cafe racers, or some touring bikes Other than that Great information for beginners Comment from : Ginuwine Leather |
