Double majored in Economics and Philosophy Roughly two years removed and so far I’d say I’m mostly content Of course, nothing is better than knowing exactly what you want to do and getting a specific technical degree, but I like the flexibility and scholarships didn’t allow me to wait to figure out exactly what I wanted to do Besides, I don’t like the idea of being boxed into only one career This degree has also been flexible enough for me to continue exploring different career paths and consider various continuing education programs due to the flexibility which is a plus considering my interests are all over the place The only downside is that you have to make it work for you The degree will not hand over a job to you My piece of advice is to take of advantage of any research opportunities They look really good I’d also like to mention that I had some really good scholarships, so I was willing to take some risks due to not having to worry about large school loans Comment from : Justin Cheatham |

For those interested in I/O Psychology, here is a recently published SIOP study regarding pay at differing levels of education and industry: brbr wwwsioporg/Research-Publications/Items-of-Interest/ArtMID/19366/ArticleID/4592brbrI recently finished my PhD in I/O and work in government In my experience, you can’t do much with a Bachelor’s degree in this field You will be required to at least attain a Master’s degree or a PhD to make it worth your time You must also be somewhat proficient in math as you will be required to have knowledge of statistics Statistics at the PhD level requires much higher math proficiency as you will be learning advanced techniques such as structural equations modeling or multi-level modeling If I was at the beginning of my academic career knowing what I know now, I probably would have studied Management in a Business school You learn the same skills but have many more opportunities to have your degree paid for as well as higher income opportunities in both academia and in the corporate world Many of the I/O professors were tenured in both the psychology and business departments I also worked in research labs with several Management PhD students Hope this helps!
