What I want is a scan tool that handles multiple vehicles, and will continue to work after a “free upgrade” period That is, I do not want to sign up to some subscription service to use my scan tool Any recommendations? Thanks

Need one to resent modules on Chevrolet Volts They can go haywire if the voltage gets low What do you think? I'm not a Pro Jock
Comment from : Horace Sawyer

Question? Does the scan tool stop working if your updates are past and you can't pay, or do you just not get the newer models cars or updates to the tool? In other words will it still work for the older model cars that you had updated during your free update period?
Comment from : j

Looking for a tool to program/ add keys for newer Benz cars and Ram trucks Was looking at Topdon but it seems like their Benz support is very limited, XTools have the KC-501 which seems to cover Benz very well Any thoughts/ suggestions plz?

I've got an X-Tool D-7 that has recently let me down I'm a recently retired locksmith with 30 years of experience under my belt, I've had extensive experience with working on cars, both lock wise and mechanically I've had several scanners over the years, but being retired, I thought that the D7 would be all that I needed for my personal use until two of my kids had recently purchased a pair of 2023 Mitsubishi Mirages Where I live, Mitsubishi doesn't include cruse control on the base model, so I purchased a cruse control unit and installed it on the steering wheel Once plugged in, the buttons lit up immediately, but that was about it I plugged in the D7, (all updates are to date), which immediately told me that it doesn't support the Vin So I tried a work around and reached the button to get into the Etacs program, which when clicked I'm instructed to turn the key to the on position and also check the cablebrWhen I initially turned the unit on, the car's engine started to shudder, and the car had made some odd noisesbrI'm now left with a check engine light on even though the D7 states that there are no problemsbrIf anyone has any suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated

My research looking for best cost/capabilities/update cost/service life/customer service/operability, but keep finding more and more companies putting out Bi-Directional tools therefore more comparison reviews so gonna take some more time before making a purchase X-Tool D8 has been running top on my list but released the D9 which supposedly dwarfs the D8 but 2x the price

Jimmy, Making it work
Good info CP! brNowadays there are so many choices, so it's important to do a bit of research Also leave the high end scan tools for shops to supply I'd recommend staying under $1000 for a personal scan tool that is very capable Bi directional and graphing capability is a must Also, Choose a brand that has add ons like TPMS and other features that can be added later
