A coworker asked me to explain high prices this morning 1) Money is a rationing mechanism There are shortages driving up prices 2) The Federal Reserve keeps printing money "Too much money chasing too few goods" Inflation has not gone down rather some shortages have been reduced which reduced some prices ie summer driving months are ending so demand reduced a little Essentially the government with the Inflation Reduction Act is conflating Inflation with the rationing mechanism of money The Act basically is trying to fix shortages with inflation Any reduction of shortages will be offset by inflation If the government pays off $10,000 dollars in student loan debt more than likely any reduction in student loan debt payments for the individual borrower will be offset by inflation caused by the printing of the money to bail out the borrower over the ensuing 12 months
