What savings vehicle can you use that maximize your earnings but are not Federally taxed??? Example: Sell home and want to park a few 100 thousand for 1+ years
Comment from : Scott

LastSider
Another drawback of CDs with some banks, you must call them during the week and withing certain hours if you want to withdraw or change them during the grace period For me its an inconvenience
Comment from : LastSider

cook master
Forget the Banks and CDs Invest in T bills they pay in the region of 55 for short terms of 4 months - 26 weeks and are easy to open -no signing in application forms etc You can also do brokered CDs from Banks that are higher than the Bank's published rates All this can be done htru Fidelity, vanguard etc with as little as 4 clicks on your key board

I bought t bill and t note at a discount to par since my coupon was 2 and my ytm was 52 My question is the following Instead of holding them till maturity I sell them before maturity to realize a capital gain instead of interest so I can use it against capital loss I incurred in my equity portfolio Is this a sound strategy tax wise ?
Comment from : Daniel Ling

Paul Curie
I'm a proud single mum who became a homeowner last year It was a huge milestone for me! On top of that, I'm also fortunate enough to have a pretty decent monthly income through my successful strategic investments As a result, I have carefully planned for my retirement, which is set to take place next yearGeneral, investing requires higher knowledge
Comment from : Paul Curie

William Knochel
Brian's initial comments on the importance of sound asset diversification and risk management cannot be overstated I've been trying to grow my portfolio to $60k for some time and would welcome any other suggestions

Comment from : Jayna Eckert

Putting well-earned money into the stock market can be over emphasized for first-time investors, unlike a bank where interest is sure thing! Well, basically times are uncertain, the market is out of control, and banks are gradually failing I am working on a ballpark estimate of $5M for retirement, and I have a good 6-figure loaded up for this, could there be any opportunity for a boomer like me? I'm nearly 60

I agree with the notion that cash in most banks’ savings accounts is earning little interest - and losing purchasing power But I think money market funds are a better option for cash Art is not really an appropriate cash alternative - it’s not liquid, fungible, or providing yield Plus it’s highly cyclical and will likely fall in a recession, unless you are highly skilled at picking winning art works to invest in
Comment from : Stephen White

ART? please who is going to buy that when the SHTF? No one 🙂

banks will never pay more than the rate of inflation for a saving account, so its amazing how many people claim you can get wealthy saving your moneybrYour best bet is to invest it, and if you're good at it you can get some passive income and capital gains to keep ahead of inflation

Monroe Mullinix
Nice job, Brian This is a well-done, clear, concise video I thought you might mention laddering as a strategy to increase CD yield With one or two more rate hikes likely in the works, and the general consensus that the FFR will probably peak early next year, a short-term ladder of 3, 6, 9, and 12-month CDs might be rather lucrative (relatively)

I am earning 490 at Marcus/Goldman Sachs for a savings account The base rate is 390 but they will give you an extra 100 if you send a referral code to a friend who opens their own account, even if it is the $500 minimum You can repeat this process over and over, which I intend to do I already have people I know interested and lined up And if you deposit $10,000 in new money, and keep it there for 90 days, separate bonus offer will toss in another $100

One asset I’d add is established high-yield dividend stocks (like PFG, NHI, PRU, SAFT, etc) I’m not touting these stocks, just using them as examples An internet search will turn up many other candidates They’re providing my wife and I around $1500/mo dividend income, which supplements CD interest and rental income
Comment from : Slapdat HughJass

Gary65437
Thank you, very informative Can you also compare what you would earn/benefit of buying say USFR, or SGOV compared to a t-bill or CD?

Here is a serious question: The FDIC only insures up to $250,000 right? But what if someone has more than that? Say someone has $600,000 and wants to put it somewhere safe? Are there any online savings accounts that yield a high interest rate and insure the money?brbrThanks!

I have several jumbo12-18 month bank CDs and IRA-CDs easy, safe Right now, also 6 figures in HY savings 375APY that I want to move, probably will split it between a 6-mo CD over 5APY and a no-penalty CD, thinking rates are still rising

I just opened a no penalty CD with Cit I had all my money in etrade and enjoyed the liquidity, simplicity and peace of mind if having the cash However, because of the world feeling like it's upside down I moved 250k to Ally and 250k to the CIT CD today CIT was really easy to open, customer service is in the US and the agent answered all of my questions I also bought the ibonds (10k) and was able to open another account for my son (5k) as a gift
Comment from : K Smith

Bert De
Your Fidelity Money Market Fund example is a bit deceiving as it's yield and expense ratio are not available to the retail investor Looks for intuitional investors only brThe retail ones are typically less in 7day average and have higher expense ratios brThat said, they still are an alternative to parks short term cash, albeit slight less
Comment from : Bert De

Barry Beede
You didn't mention multi-year guaranteed annuities, many of which are currently paying well in excess of 5 tax deferred annually for 3-7 year contracts Several also have some limited liquidity such as withdrawing up to 10 of the balance annually
Comment from : Barry Beede

Cynthia DeMario
There are restrictions on getting your cash quickly from some of these suggested high yield savings account brFor example Salem Direct allows an ACH from your account of a maximum of just $2,000 a day brYou can request a wire transfer from Salem Direct to get your funds from the bank It is I was told a request that should be approved, a definite maybe is what I heardbrIf Salem approve you for a wire transfer your daily maximum is $10,000 a day brTo send a wire Salem specifically demand you mail them the wire transfer form completed brSalem will not accept an email/fax or docusign wire form brIt seems Salem is stuck in 1947, maybe they will accept a wire sent via Pony Express, but with managerial approval!brCheck any bank about their high yield savings account rules for quick access to your funds, and details about their daily limits
Comment from : Cynthia DeMario

GABE
Thanks for the content, inflationary period has everyone scrambling but recently precious metals have been an alright alternative I’m thinking I need to make use of better longer term vehicles

Thanks for the information I took part of my savings and put it in the 11 month Capital One CD that was 5 for 11 months that you did a video on My normal bank savings is earning somewhere around the $15 year like you talked about I am trying to decide if and where I want to put the rest of my savings Mine is meant for my emergency fund I was considering just the high yield savings as you started withbrbrI am concerned overall where everything is going though both for my cash and my 401K The move of the world away from our dollar and the Fed program towards a digital dollar concern me that my savings for retirement could be wiped out or take a big hit I am hoping to retire within 5 years so I don't have time to wait for things to turn aroundbrbrI just subscribed to your channel too I have found many of your videos interesting and useful
Comment from : KevinW3278

DixonMason
You are the best, most concise YouTuber when it comes to these subjects! Just a side note on your pop-up: I've been monitoring my recently opened Ally account from a few months ago and the rate did not drop their rate to 375 It just recently went up to 375 on 3/24 and it has been steady there, AFAIK I think we're going to see a plateau in these HYSAs soon if we haven't already with a dip coming in the next year
Comment from : DixonMason

Roys Place
Like always great content Do you see CDs increasing just after the second fed raise in may ? Using a brokerage firm specifically? Because they are stagnant at 47 range On average Will they go to 5 or higher in may call protected ? I blew it I saw two weeks ago a 5 year CD at 5 call protected ! It got gobbled up by the next morning I won’t let that happen again Trying to find one at 5 or close to it call protected
Comment from : Roys Place
