Sounds like they never really answered the question other than saying high yield savings account, but what do they mean by that? I keep my cash in a Vanguard money market account which does much better than any bank savings or checking account Short term bond funds are another option or even short term municipal bond funds that are tax free

I wouldn't recommend anyone hold cash or money in savings for future purchases Although it's minimal, you're exposed to the potential loss to inflation and moreover, there is a loss opportunity cost of it not growing at a decent rate in other market securities I don't hold any securities either because of market risk and I personally don't hold more than 1000 bucks cash/savings/Emergency Fund As a savings vehicle I park my money in a High cash value whole life insurance policy It's safe, liquid and grows guaranteed at a decent rate to out paces inflation I can borrow against my cash value with a collateralized loan allowing uninterrupted compounding growth on my savings

Interest on savings is so anemic I don’t even bother with a savings account anymore - I just leave my extra cash in my checkbook I usually keep about $60k in cash laying around as part of my financial plan For the little bit of interest that would earn it’s just not worth it to me to mess around with a second account - plus I never worry about bouncing a check any longer😂

Vanguard's life strategy funds are great for people stuck between full stock index fund purchases and savings accounts You get to pick between 20 stock and 80 stock and can likely fit your risk profile fairly easily
