I recently picked up a beautiful 1884 MS64 PL for $155 and definitely agree with your reasoning for acquiring PL specimens Been collecting off and on since 1964 when I was in the 9th grade The only thing that's changed is the prices Comment from : Wright Flyer |

Thanks for another great video John I honestly changed my answer a couple times during the videolol I think when I start adding graded silver dollars to my stack, I want to stick to PCGS slabs only PCGS seem's to be the strongest 3rd party grader of all the companies Wouldn't this also factor into the decision? Just wondering & thanks again for the education Comment from : T BM |
I would go for the MS64PL I have a MS64DPL it would make a great addition Nice coins Comment from : jeffcollins92 |
MS65 Comment from : Talking Bullion |
I`ll take the 65 the 81-S is a common date often found in PL ,it also has a distracting cheek mark Comment from : JAS0N888 |
Interesting question John PL coins, like proofs are much more sensitive to bag marks Nothing worse than an impaired proof So I would only pick a PL coin in very high MS, leaving the MS65 regular strike as my choice It is interesting how the San Francisco mint often used polished dies in its early production of Morgans I have the 1881S in both formats, but the bag marks on the PL always bugged me Comment from : MétéoMan |
MS65 all day Comment from : TheSilverguy23 |

Both gorgeous, John, but I have to go with the MS 64 PL Mr MonkeySwag got me excited about PL Morgans with a great video he made on his example I bought an 1886 MS 64 PL and it is one of my favorite Morgans to just stare at Ha Comment from : Keystone Stacker |
I agree with you I would be happy with either one but if I could get both of them at a good price n if I could afford them I would get them boththanks 4 the video enjoy your weekend Comment from : Ray Perez |
I would pick the MS64PL over the MS65 in a heartbeat So many baby boomers are dumping their common date Morgans into the market So MS65 coins are plentiful I think the best Morgans should have special attributes like PL fields, VAMs, or toning There is much demand for PL or DMPL coins People will pay extra premiums for an attractive PL Comment from : MrMonkeySwag96 |
