Ill tell you how it is, we have always had one more language that we had to be good at my grandparents spoke german, my parents russian and nowadays we use english (guess why these languages), and we all learn one or two additional language that we are not so good at😂 so most people have 2,5 languages at disposal😂+3 languages we can understand without learning it, guesses welcome😊 Comment from : Theo Teddy |

Fun fact: Czech didn´t mention understanding/knowing Slovakian language, because for us it´s so natural that we don´t coun it as "foreign" onebrbrWe used to be one country - Czechoslovakia, today we´re split, but eg on internet or in TV we act like one countrybrInternet for us is Czecho-Slovakian, we have shows together like Superstar (Czecho-Slovakian Idol)brSlovakian has also specific status in Czech legislative - although it´s not official language of Czech Republic yo can use it in official administrations, or Slovaks don´t have to learn Czech for going to university to Czech degrees and can write their theses in Slovak too Comment from : Lukas Srba |

This video is bias Most of the people were not czech so it does not say anything about czechs but it says something about the expats or tourists in that country They didnt study there so you dont get the right info The same as if you interview a czech who lived in usa, that is also not common But czechs usually speak 2-4 languages older generations speak russian or german, people under 40 speak english + they learned 1 or 2 other languages (mainly german, french, spanish or russian), but their knowledge dependes on their abbilities brIf you wanna interview czechs you have to go out of the old town and go to quarters which are not flooded with tourists or russians/ukrainians Comment from : sasik225 |

These videos are great but you have no idea how to talk to people who don’t speak English well At 10:15 obviously the word she was looking for was “dialect” Also with the Polish lady and the German man, you ask them a question in the worst fashion, leaving them clueless to what you are trying to get out of them Comment from : Koen Glick |
|

Here's something that happened to me while in Prague October last yearbrIt was evening, I was going back to my hotel and decided to get some snacks from a local Lidl supermarket I paid everything, but when I crossed the checkout the alarm simply went off There I was, with my backpack, on the very first day in a city whose language I couldn't speak, and by myself The cashier asked me in czech to open my backpack - as soon as I said I couldn't speak the language, she asked me again in this perfect and clear English They took a look for, like, 5 seconds, and told me that I could go Most people I interacted with in Prague were able to speak English, but a very good one brbrThe alarm going off, though, that's the second thing I won't forget about my brief visit to Prague This has never happened to me in Brazil Comment from : Emanuel |

I speak 3 and German little bit eventho I have studied it for 4 years but was not really expose to any GermanbrbrI believe nowadays in Europe especially with young generation you would be ok with just English Every young person is expose to it Through netflix, youtube, facebook, internet generally but it is harder to speak just in English with older people who especially in Eastern Europe were most likely learning Russian Comment from : Peter |

Prague is really beautiful indeed, however as the saying goes - "people make the city" - and the people of Prague are a huge disappoinment with their seriously immature and closed-minded mentality The Ukrainian girl having to work as a photography tourist trap is a classic example of that It really feels like being surrounded by a crowd of frustrated children in grownup bodies, having an unhealthy fixation with their artificially overcomplicated language, insisting that the whole world should speak it fluently from the first day one sets foot in the Republic In return they won't speak any foreign language even if they can, just to spite you They go as far as modifying foreign and even celebrity names to make them sound more Czech Yet they are not mean on purpose, that's just how they are, it's just an infantile behavior driven by the national identity complexes So if you haven't heard of Angelina Joliová or Britney Spearsová, well that's how deep the Czech rabbit hole goesbrIt's really hard to convey to the unprepared foreign minds the peculiarity that is the Czech nation "Smradek, ale teplíčko" as they say themselves Comment from : dreadsasho |
