I've actually started a YouTube channel where I'm interviewing successful people with ADHD Like you, I want to keep it very positive, although there can be some downsides I'm especially having a difficult time perform very detailed tasks without my meds, and I debate if I should take it for those times specifically Comment from : Snicolek |

You keep saying "might" At my last permanent job, which I went to specifically because it was in a quiet office concentrating on ONE thing all day, they remodelled and suddenly I found myself in the middle of the office hubbub, with the one dept scanner in my "cubicle" that I shared with a very talkative coworker who was always having her friends over for lunch We were right next to the dept refrigerator and coffee machine and were now sharing space with the mail lady, who refused to turn her radio down I went to my boss, his boss, and HR, and they ALL refused to provide me any accommodation whatsoever, while my boss was constantly harassing me about not getting enough work done and for staying late (AFTER clocking out) in order to catch up I called lawyers, I called the EEOC, no one would help me Ironically, on my last performance appraisal (after 15 years working for the same college and never getting a bad performance review), this supervisor gave me my first-ever "needs improvement," saying that my disabilities were "demoralizing to the other employees" The really ironic thing was that I was working with and for deaf people at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf! (Deafness automatically qualifies you for bBOTH/b SSD and SSI) Also they kept tacking on job duties where I had to be in two places at once while refusing to give me an updated job description Can you imagine if they started requiring the deaf staff to answer the phones? This new setup was just as impossible for mebrbrPlus I had been taking classes all those years working on my bachelor's degree, and now that I finally had an official diagnosis, the larger college, Rochester Institute of Technology, was providing me with reasonable accommodation/an IEP for my classes After I couldn't get that performance appraisal corrected while my boss continued to harass me (in other ways as well, eg, when everyone was standing around oo-ing and ah-ing over somebody's baby they brought into the office, he turned to me and said, "That's what YOU need"--ie, a baby!), I had a nervous breakdown and was forced to quit my job I'm now on disability, but it's due to panic disorder and a work-related injury; my ADHD didn't factor in at all And right now, the SSA is checking up on me again to make sure I'm still disabled 11 years after I got on disability Yes, surprise, I still have ADHD, but because my physical work-related injury was only rated at 55-75 and ADHD was not a factor in their decision, I have to keep proving my case over and over, since I guess they think I'll recover from my panic disorderbrbrAny suggestions? (RIT is too powerful and has the nastiest lawyers in town to attempt to bring a discrimination suit against them Plus I'm sure the statute of limitations has passed But I had every intention of staying there till I reached retirement age, which would have been five years ago, and the harassment they got away with continues to haunt me to this day) Comment from : mooncove |
