I’m My dad when he went to the Military, his dad who was enlisted in the Navy, told him to not enlist and become an officer So that’s what he did and now he’s in the Coast Guard as an Captain

From a social sense, I wouldn't say woke military culture is a reason why young people are not joining the military In fact I think it's the exact opposite, the military isn't being woke enough in terms of actually making the military worth it for marginalized groups, and as well for the individuals in not-so-marginalized groups who know people in such marginalized groups Military culture is still extremely toxic against women and LGBTQ+ people, that much is indisputable in the broad sense This turns off many LGBTQ+ people and women from joining, and many outside those groups who have friends and family apart of those groups and do not want to sign up to an institution which actively turns a blind eye to the persecution of those groups Now, is the answer to introduce cancel culture into the armed forces and shift focus away from combat readiness and to coddling people's feelings? Well, no, of course not But the military needs to make a conscious effort to do enough to make the military something which all can feel comfortable signing up for from that social perspective Combatting extremism in the military is a huge part of that

Currently in the process of joining the US army, and they are very strict on all of their information They said I need to give them all of my medical records and every single one of my pharmacy records and if there's 1 discrepancy I can't join the army I knew someone who wasnt able to join because 6 years prior they were prescribed an inhaler for mold in their house They instantly got disqualified at MEPS no wonder recruiting is so low

I think a few standards should be lowered/eliminated, like minor, non-problematic health or physical issues Regardless of what your country can do for you in return, we the people should still love and fight for it, and be allowed to enlist even if we aren't 100 fit We're human, not perfect I'm sure new recruits will do just fine if the military lets them in They're needed brThis country really is worth fighting for No matter what anyone believes otherwise

Before the 2010s, everybody knew someone who had served Parents, grandparents, uncles, friends, siblings of friends, ect This influence is starting to disappear from younger families, and kids now have it hammered into them that you bmust/b go to university, even if you're not academic, even if your Archaeology or Woman's Studies degrees won't lead to meaningful employment

When the all-volunteer military began in the early 1970s, I was appalled I subsequently enlisted in the Marine Corp Every, EVERY, citizen should be required to serve I would require four years of active-duty service, four years of active reserve which would entail a weekend per month and six weeks of training per year, and inactive reserve until age sixty which would require a yearly physical fitness test and qualification with your personal weapon which you would be required to maintain in your home or workplace, wherever you were at the moment The penalty for failing either test would be activation until you passed the test Health care coverage and college expenses would cease to be issues as both would be included in your military service Yes, by most people's standards I am out of my mind, but I still believe the country and every citizen of it would benefit from such a system
