I totally agree with everything you say Once problem I have is being addicted to the ritual of things For example I don't eat at panera bread as much for the food as I do the experience of going to my favorite spot across the street and drinking the coffee and dipping the pastry into it A lot of times we're paying for the experience To feel like we're doing something

I live in a 3-bedroom house with a big backyard all by myself I never use the living room, the dining room, the home office or the backyard I am going to turn one of the bedrooms into a gym/yoga/praying room, the dining room will be my dance floor and I am going to get a trampoline in order to use the backyard I originally bought the house because I had a kid but he grew up so it is only me now My mortgage is not too high (same as renting a decent apartment)

I paid off my car early to become debt free One of the first things I did was go online and browsed for a new car I did NOT get a new car My car only had 34-35K miles on it when I paid it off I might wait another year or two before looking again

Our house is about 1,500 sq feet It feels huge some days Most houses on my block are bigger We bought the fixer upper We have been renovating It's almost paid off and no longer a fixer upper I don't think we do any of these things We rarely get food delivery The last time was about 2020a pizza My husband has carpentry and basic plumbing and electrical skills We almost never hire anyone to work on our home

In the Netherlands there are several groceries services which will deliver even a pack of chewing gum for almost no delivery charge It's especially used to buy ice cream in the evening, booze, crisps and other snacks A journalist went undercover and became a delivery biker He noticed that especially rich millennials are using the service and especially poor millennials are bikers it's so sad and decadent don't you think? Even though it's an income for the bikers (very underpaid by the way and bikers often have accidents because they have to deliver as fast as possible) Why would you be so lazy when you are 20 and live in a big city to step outside, walk 5 minutes and get the stuff yourself??

I will never use anything like ubereats or door dash I dont understand paying so much for delivery, its unbelievable I did upgrade my phone a couple times back when i thought it was necessary Now my current phone is paid off and I only pay $15 a month phone bill Payment plans put me in a small bit of debt before I realized that it was just a trap to be constantly broke As far as bottled water goes, I have a couple bottles for when i go hiking because it is lighter than my stainless steel water bottles, but i do reuse them over and over I wont go out and buy packs of water Its free from my tap

A good topic to explore is the psychology of how they get us to buy I have a book on this I’ve been meaning to read Eg supermarkets are all about psychology, how they organise the store layout, where they put ‘temptation items’, the music, the lighting, everything Same with Ikea How digital marketers get people in their funnels brInteresting too how the addictive products eg chocolate, candy, ice-cream are the ones on sale at my local whereas the healthy vegetables aren’t Except maybe one chosen ‘loss leader’ like bananas
