Vanderbilt got rich owning the New York Central RR Commodore Vanderbilt was an illiterate slob He was crude, greedy, and immoral There were no Sodomites in that original book, it was true Commodore vanderbilt is an illiterate Farmer from Satan Island The talentless story is exposed by its theme of Sodomites In Vanderbilts time sodomites would be in prison as they should be Comment from : NaYawkr |
Great actress And this character is the best of the whole show Comment from : Lisa Mcandrews |
I just re-watched "Da Vinci's Demons" again recently, so it's really wonderful to see Blake Ritson once more here in "The Gilded Age"! I hope the series will be able to continue for at least a few more seasons! Comment from : Alexandria Leonora |

Bannister is a pretty fun character, and give that little bit of British behaviors and humor that subtly connects us to the world of Downtown Abbey Comment from : Ashely Diaz |

Christine Baranski’ and Cynthia Nixon are both powerhouses in these roles I love every time they are on screen - almost as much as the Russell's 😉 Comment from : Rattail |
Oscar <3 Comment from : Alex Aronovich |
Central Park was a Black thriving community Comment from : Flash Sanders |
Christine Baranski's a very good, strong actor, but for me, she's had too much exposure in other films and tv shows where portrays characters with that same arrogant tone As a result, I don't find her portrayal of this character to be particularly intriguing I think a more seasoned, lesser known actor (to US audiences) such as Janet McTeer or Alex Kingston may be more interesting Comment from : Tarey Reilly |
The van Rhijn house is on the site of the Pierre Hotel? Comment from : jimmyboy9ify |

The costumes and hairstyles are a show in their own right The intricate use of color and texture, the elaborate, flamboyant hats, and the heavy, jeweled, capes the ladies wear to go out for the evening…awe inspiring 👌🏼💯 Comment from : mk toohtwo |
Annnnd… Does Oscar want to be with a man? Or is that totally irrelevant? Comment from : Brooks |

I don’t understand how anyone could look at Peggy and the way she dresses and think she was poor 🤔😂💃🏾💰 Comment from : Kaf Kollectif |
Agnes and her Rich friends bought property uptown to get in first knowing the city would expand, it's an excuse to claim they are better, they are jealous and greedy and use class and insults out of fear and envy Comment from : julianyc422 |

Oh, Beverly Comment from : Beverly Marsh |
The thing I like best about Fellowes' writing in all that he's done is that there's never a line spoken where I say to myself "s/he wouldn't say that," or "that's too contrived" for the character/situation in question Most things even on, say, PBS's Masterpiece Theatre, (not written by Fellowes, ) seem to always have a few of those clunker moments For example, in the current series "All Creatures Great and Small," as much as I love several of the characters, has some dialogue and situations that just make you shake your head and say "No" In this case, maybe that's partly because I worked as a vet tech part-time during college LOL Comment from : Steve-o |
Its just a fun time, jolly fun time I will never forget the scene where the in debt helper was on her knees and after getting shaken down by a gangster she says "now you see what i really am" and i just cannot get over it Comment from : What TypeOfX |
So it's just an American version of Downton 🙄 Comment from : Alison |
I will definitely try the series out, but good grief, did they have to use modern makeup? Their eyebrows are irritating me lol 😆 I don't think that it will be a Downton though I do find it funny that nothing has changed in the States - you can have all the new money in the world but you will still never have the class to get into top society Comment from : Alexandra Smith |
As comical as Maggie Smith was in Downton Abbey so is Christine Baranski Their characters might have been best friends Comment from : Advent |
Having gone to college in the area, it was wonderful to see the Strasburg Railroad being used for this series Comment from : Ben Sheetz |
It's fascinating to watch this point in history and realize none of the characters' mindsets were “wrong”—the women were right to want things to change and the other women were right that those changes would usher in disasters they couldn't predict Now 100 years later if they could see what has become of the world they would never have yearned for what would soon be the undoing of civilization Comment from : Lyndsey Fifield |
It's really sad with all the amazing production they didn't employ a speech expert on the accent of that era They definitely didn't speak modern 21st century American English The actors could have been coached and directed to at least try and do the mid-atlantic accent of the old 20's nd 30's old Hollywood as that mixture of American-British would've sounded more appropriate than the modern American accents they're all using throughout the series! Horridly inaccurate if you ask me and takes away a lot from the fantasy they're trying us to believe! Comment from : Michelle Visage OnlyFans |
I can't listen to Cynthia Nixonall I hear is Miranda, sorry Comment from : A G |

It's weird I love Christine Baranski (Good Wife / Good Fight are two of my top series Diane Lockheart one of my top favorite characters in US TV) brbut yeah back to this as weird I am semi intrested because it's a time in the US that I would love to look into but I dunno it just doesn't seem my type of show Comment from : Nuuccii92 |
I LOVE Baranski in this role She is wonderful at showing the many rich layers and nuances of her character and manages to add her own brand of snark and humor at the same time She does this the same way Maggie Smith does with Violet in Downton Abbey, though the actresses and characters are indeed very individual Comment from : KD BEE |
