Ideally, yes, every time we give, we are cheerful, but the idea of NOT giving because you don't feel like it I disagree with thatbrbr I think God works with us where we are at That'd be like my wife saying "don't change our son's diaper unless you are cheerful about doing it" I don't "want" to change a poopy diaper, but I do like seeing her less stressed, my son comfortable, setting a good example or a clean smell-- So I do it Ideally, in a perfect world, sure, every day I'd get butterflies in my stomach from changing diapers and taking out trash or scrubbing toilets or giving out of limited resources but things aren't always perfect and my flesh and spirit are at odds with one another It's not always about "wanting" to do or not do something, it's about doing it because of the affects or doing it despite my feelings,brbrSometimes doing something for God that makes our flesh struggle ( but do it anyway) shows MORE maturity than if we were skipping and dancing happily while doing it Not because of salvation, clearly, that is a gift, but out of love for Him we do works God created lots of works for us to do In scripture are tons of examples of people doing things begrudgely or arguing with God, and God didn't fault them for it, He loved them through it Scripture says to do the good we know to do (Proverbs 27) and as we do, regardless of feelings, we see God faithful and we hope the feelings follow, but they might not, and we have to be okay with itbrbr I'd love for my flesh to love the things of God, but the reality is, our flesh will always try to rise up We can't let a bad attitude stop us from doing something we know is good and would bless God or others

I honestly think he was just saying God loves a cheerful giver Most churches today teach that we must give 10 Not all of us can give that We all have different living circumstances And I'm sure God would rather you keep your family safe and well verses giving 10 that you may not be able to give Regardless on what you give God loves a cheerful giver

I think that removing my negative opinion of JP here is more than a bit cowardly, and seems to only reinforce my opinion I hope people will be guided more by the Holy Spirit and less by your efforts to make it seem like JP only has adoring fans or that he is so far above reproach that one dare not have a contrary opinion

I need some help with thisbrbrI have always been a giver and I don't want in anyway to not obey God and His commandments However, recently it has been difficult, not a burden I have let it ate to tithe and I don't feel as comfortable I have seen Francis Chan saying that Tithing is not a command and here is John Piper saying that it is I am confused and I pray that the Lord will clear my heart and mind over this issue All I want is to honour Him with all I am and havebrbrPlease pray for me brothers and sistersbrbrGod bless you all!
