In the Southern States is like Magnolia accent to the English Language Like I live in Alabama where the Magnolias still bloom Like these trees are everywhere "Land of the Magnolias" as they say FYI I would not ever have any of these trees, they are messy, and the pods will destroy your lawnmower blades They never lose all there leaves but they just keep sheading leaves year around Comment from : Rekt_ philosopher_Sigma00 |

Kat[herine], adding to your explanation, also explaining the term itself: The term schwa was introduced by German linguists in the 19th century from the Hebrew shva (שְׁוָא IPA: [ʃva], classical pronunciation: shəwāʼ [ʃə̑wɔː] - and it is actually the sound you might leave out when pronouncing sh(ə)va as shva Comment from : k bundies |

Great Lesson For my (being Dutch) the singing way of speaking (what you where talking about with the schwa) but for me the most obvious way to spot an British person miles away is to listen to the S-sound: you have a very pronounced, clear (I think they are in the front of your mouth?) S You can sit on the other side of a room and still hear the S-ses Being Dutch the British S is a real challange for me Comment from : pi3d pi3d visualisaties |
|
Katherine Please use the schwa in the word accent and in your final turkey story, you identified several words "and" as using schwa where they actually don't Sometimes, as in these, the A gets the full vowel treatment Comment from : donepearce |

Well, according to some theories on English language - which you may know as well - the "original" British pronunciation was the today's standard American English accent, as the current British accent is just a 19th century, Victorian innovation brSo, according this theory the American accent preserved the more archaic - and the "real" British accent What do you think about that? Comment from : Kiss Zoltán |
|
