I have installed solar on my roof and 22 and I yet have got to use it because the Edison company does not want to sanction it so all I got is a bunch of solar set an a bear feed in Edison electricity so I would like to know why it takes so long to turn the system on watch out It’s been on since November 2022

There is so much false advertising on solar You can’t go by general sun exposure information Like you said tall trees on my property, they are over 100’ and they can’t be cut without major money and environmental approvals owls, and so on My roof is 12/12 pitch metal with a 15” air space so one cannot work on my roof The shading on one panel doesn’t kill the whole string as long as the inverter minimum voltage is met Many new inverters are more shade friendly Now the utilities are going for a grid fee Someone has to support the grid Utilities have also made it more difficult to get use of the solar by extending the time of use until 9:00pm so you can’t use those all the time There are laws about being connected to the grid if you are within a certain distance Plus lenders won’t lend on house that is off grid The panel prices dropped but not the inverters, wire, and labor are going up I have been doing solar for 22 years One must also consider the cost of fixing the roof later Another consideration is if the property taxes go up because it is a home improvement In California any improvement is taxed and goes up 2- per year compounded

I find it disconcerting that there is no mention of consulting a structural engineerbrPlease address the issue of the additional load on your roof My sister has been looking at homes with solar panels installed and routinely is seeing cracks in the ceiling and walls where the system is located Roofs are not weighing bearing structures The existing dead weight can vary from 15 to 27 pounds per square inch for slanted roofs and higher for flat roofs A roof should be reinforced to be able to sustain the additional 4 pound, 10 pound and up to 45 lbs per square inch of a solar system plus additional consideration for increased wind loadand snow load if applicable

Solar reduces monthly electric bills and a great saving especially when running air conditioners However, it presumes your roof will last as long as the solar installation The cost of roof replacement that has solar panels is not covered
