A bit late but I just started my tech career at pep boys planning on moving to lexus dealer but as of right now in CA i get paid 20 hourly, $30 flat rate and $40 every hour of OT doing brakes, struts, some engine stuff, fluid exchanges, tires, oil changes, diags also 19 years old hopefully once i become 21 i go to lexus dealership i want to get more experience than jump the boat thinking i know stuff

I left the industry (Lexus) in 2017 I was at $15-$18 a flat rate hour depending on how much I flagged per pay period (2 weeks) The top paid Tech was at $28 a flat rate hour, but he usually didn’t make more than 80 hours a pay period brI would usually flag about 120-150 hours a pay period, however I would work 6 days a week brManagement kept lowering the flat rate pay for us after the sewer was sold saying we were “getting too quick” to chargebrbrThis resulted in people leaving brbrLove the trade though

I quit back in 2008, the only people who were making good money were the 2-4 old timers that the shop fed gravy all day long Rest of us got what was left over and warranty work I went to the t-ten program and became cert But i could never become a expert tech since the 5 years i was there they never sent me to toyota for the training Cant get cert if the dealership doesnt send you

To reduce the echo, you can do the following low-cost solutions: 1: unroll a large rug on the floor just when you record (does not have to be under you, and the fuzzier the better) 2: put some kind of fabric material on the ceiling and/or walls (the fuzzier the better) 3: Put use a directional, cardioid mic 4: Move the mic closer to you or use a lapel mic (Fabric materials that resist air being blown through it are NOT as good as the opposite The fabric should be quite porous)

Try moving to the Orange County area… my 1,800 square foot, 1 story, 3 bed, 2 bath house is valued at just a couple grand under $1 Million and a smaller house down our street just sold for $930k… Every home is owned by either couples who each make $100k a year or older people who bought their houses back in the 1980’s when they were only going for $200k

Wow that's crazy hours you work I'm in Sydney Australia and we only have 38 hour work weeks and at dealerships you'd be lucky to squeeze and extra 5 to 10 hours a week if anything at all Overtime is paid at 15x our rate which is why it's discouraged brbrI'd say average pay is 60-70k per annum for most mechanics I know but you have to remember medium house prices in Sydney are well over 1 million dollars now so we definitely don't live comfortably lolbrbrThanks for sharing I wish more people would to stop bosses robbing people of fair wages I started my own business offering mobile mechanic services at peopled homes to get away from all those workshop dramas lol

What about the dispatcher? Some dealers don't have one and some do so it so depends on how cool you are to the dispatcher Where they can feed you good work and you'll make easy ones or make good money so if ubhave a dispatcher, and you're constantly refusing job or not doing a good job That dispatcher will not be hooking u up

Let me start off by saying if your a lube tech stay away from the trucks lmao personal experience but I live in cali highest iv been paid as a lube tech was 16hr went flat rate at ford for 19hr and let me tell you it sucked cause Business went slow and service advisors wasn’t really selling but I have heard from a few techs they made 100k+

So I just found this channel and have been on a watching binge Regarding taxes, I would strongly encourage anyone who can go independent to do so Form an LLC and now all of your expenses are business tax educatable Your tools, your travel to a job, your business insurances, advertising your business, etc Instead of paying taxes on that 84k you would know pay on the 60k saving you about $7,000 a year (Fed and Ca tax if single) Being a high earning W2 worker is the worst place to be as far as taxes Great channel

I work as a automotive technician for Valvoline instant oil change Work for metrolube (franchisee of Valvoline) in central florida area Started in June of 2021 at $13 an hour, and got promoted to certified technician, which is just a $050 cent raise The title on my resume is what I like most (an extra dollar every two hours is kinda meh but better than nothing) I’ve earned good money over the summer, and am working part time (a mere 3 days a week) to earn some cash while going to school Wanted to be a mechanic as a kid, and have learned some much despite starting off with no trade/tech school Tools are provided (as with most lube shops) Although my long-term career ambitions have changed, I still love being a mechanic greatly brbrWill happily answer any questions if you have them about where I work, tips, etc

2021 was my first full year on flat rate for Toyota I started as a lube tech coming straight out of universal technical institute as a t-ten graduate and quickly grew my way into as an apprentice and eventually to as a tech I am 22 now and made for my first year close to 70k I feel like I would’ve done more but I was later off due to COVID just to be brought back Within a month I am currently working on getting my MDT status and trying to grow my knowledge everyday at the shop and get those 3 figures before 25 🙏🏽 but to everyone doing this my respect

I started as a tire tech at 11hr 12/1/2020, went to 12hr after 2 months 13hr after another month, after 6 months total I became an apprentice and got 15hr 1/25/2022 14months exp I'm now at 2530hr and if I flag over 30hrs a week I get 150 bonus South Mississippi heavy truck mechanic Oh I was only going to get 2030hr but told them to work this job I needed 25hr and that was it, but first 14 months was important in negotiating I didn't miss any time worked hard and learned fast
