All about money and control in China I know people there and they say that certain steriotypes are true Sounds like China is now doing what MY ESL country has been doing for quite some time now (and it's a poor 3rd-world country): Choose what career each person has and don't let them choose This, of course, sends most of them right back to the gutter where 50+ people around them are already trying to "get by" doing the same trade they are (let's say selling tomatoes and beans) SO sad I hate to see it but it's out of my control Comment from : @nunyabiz334 |

So many sad reflections of our society in this story - extreme competition for the best jobs in a context of extreme income inequality and declining opportunity, loss of childhood to extracurricular tutoring, exploitation and deskilling of teaches - they were contractors not employees and many were just going through curriculum slides/lessons TEFL is a business and there's money to be made from the extreme pressure to succeed through academic success as narrowly measured by exams Sometimes I wonder if I want to be part of it all Comment from : @LeoListening |

Amazing how China was done with the decades of putting white people on pedestals Well the good looking ones were worthy of the adulation But the ugly few who cant teach or even entertain the customers ruined the industry They’d hire teachers again But they will impose higher standards Better to hire a cute French or Swiss Teacher than some grumpy fat drama queen from New York who thinks the students are all naive or stupid Some of those teachers may have pissed off the powers that be through some vlog or tweet Comment from : @eduardochavacano |

Hello and thank you for this video May I ask whether you waited a long time before getting your first student on Preply? There are so many teachers How do I stand a chance of being seen? Any insight will be greatly appreciated I have already applied and have been approved I have heard that in the beginning, one should try to log in to the platform a few times a day to get the algorithym to favour you Is this true? Thank you in advance Comment from : @deliaalberts8120 |

Good news for Chinese students Comment from : @CAMPSCOOTER |

I like how you referred to some students as 'better academically minded' rather than simply 'better' than the practically-minded ones You must be a good teacher :) Comment from : @gracehealy8114 |

Your point about Chinese universities possibly disengaging with non-Chinese universities is quite interesting If you learn more developments and news about that please make a follow-up video as there are a lot of English language teaching jobs associated with these joint efforts My US university, Eastern Michigan University, just started a joint engineering college with a Chinese university this spring and I am betting lots of other universities in the US, UK and EU have other joint efforts My university has been working with Chinese ones since at the early 2000's Comment from : @IanKorman |

Thank you so much for sharing some possible positive perspectives with us too In all honesty, it's so hard to imagine that with the current ban Chinese parents with loose their motivation to do their best for their kids Don't get me wrong- its terrible that kids have to go through so much pressure to have a chance for a better life, but I don't think the ban will solve the competition situation This "social motivation" phenomenon won't disappear, people will look for other ways to win this game, however, it might lower the overall tension for some time Comment from : @katyafyodorova661 |

The Chinese education system tops the list brahead of Singapore, Japan and the UKbraccording to Programme for International Student Assessmentbrbr‘By taking private tuition courses, brthe rich kids will have an unfair advantage over poor onesbrto get into good schools’brbrAs with most governments around the world brChina allows ‘after-school tuition centres’ to run brif they don’t raise money through the stock marketbrno tutoring after 9pm, during weekends and holidaysbrbrThe tuition boom has not only worried Chinabrbut also Korea, Japan and any other countriesbras it created education inequality to low birth ratesbrhas put heavy workload on students and financial burden on parents brThe average tuition fees accounted for 30 of the family's total annual spendingbrbrOn top of this, many children in those countriesbrcommitted suicide or have mental health issuesbrdue to heavy workload on thembrbrThe UK government regulates tuition centres brwhich teach for more than 6 to 8 hours a weekbrbrIndian and other countries warn all teachers: br‘Stop taking private tuitions or leave your jobs’brbrImagine our children would have heavy workloadbrhaving online lessons after 9pm, at weekends or holidays brand there’s huge financial burden on parents, brshouldn’t we join some of the Chinese parents to support the policy brallowing children to have more time for themselves brand reducing financial burden for parents? Hi, Just a question There's a company called TutorABC based in Taiwan I used to work for them and I do believe they belong to iTutor group Do you think this company will gain students from Mainland China and hire more teachers? I know they have an office in Shanghai as well I just wanted to get your opinion on it Thank you for your insight, sir Comment from : @therenaissanceronin5669 |

This has changed the online teaching market with a huge influx of teachers who have unfortunately lost their positions I believe Chinese children need to actually have the opportunity to be children, but I think the market will go underground Comment from : @KristinGrady |
