31 and just started working on building wealth the smart way about a year ago I used to just put my money into my saving account, and while I was able to save a decent amount of money, the interest you get just isn't worth it anymore It just doesn't pay off I've started investing in peer to peer loans and I've moved into a different rental apartment that I can share with a friend so that I can save more money brThe one thing I'm uncertain about is how much I should invest vs keep available in my bank account What is a good rule of thumb?

I really want to make more sources of income and investing, been looking into an index fund and dividend stocks as 2 pretty cheap entry level sources of income, but my parents believe in the whole "work for your money" thing, aka work for your paycheck and if you lose your job get screwed overbrbrAnger and sadness rn cause imma be poor till I turn 18 15 years of potential money wasted

Luke Nukem
This is really "odd" to me | Money as a 13-18yo? LMFAObr—brEverything required for my health and wellbeing was provided to me as a youngling - The only thing my parent did half rightbrYounger than 14yo, I was never given any money, besides the odd tooth fairy and $20 per year for my birthday from my grandmabrThe next 4 years, I was given $5 per week purely for a $10 weekly 1 zone bus ticket to last me 2 weeks, resulting in me getting to school across both zones one paid and one free with a bus pass, but, I had to walk half way home before getting the last zone home freebrI was given the essentials to life, but never any money to work with The concept is foreign to me for younglingsbr—brIt wasn't until I was 17 and I quit school early and started a job by volunteering for a day at my mum's job, and the supervisor liked me so I was hiredbrbrSo, I started getting paid in the 13-18yo bracket, barely Being a junior and scoring a job without an interview, I got little pay, which was immediately greedily sought after as board money with barely enough left for foodbrI can only concede that others have more honorable parents that value their children's futures and don't suck the life from them as soon they can keeping them stagnant and in place
Comment from : Luke Nukem

Jeff Dorris

Does anyone agree with Mark that buying a house is liability (instead of an asset)??? If I don't have a place to live, I will need to rent (ie liability) If I buy a house on mortgage, instead of paying rental to a landlord (eg Mark) I would be investing in an asset which I will eventual own outright This asset is likely to be of higher value in future than when I first agreed to buy it It will also generate income for me if I decide to rent it out I just don't see the wisdom in this particular advice of Mark Hoping to hear from others with experience
Comment from : Eugene CS Lim
