How can he possibly "undecided"? clearly he has decided because he bought the solar panels, put them on his roof and is living under them 24/7!!

What happens if a solar panel goes bad in the middle do you have to take up all the panels to get to the middle
Comment from : farmboy782

Pierre Pellerin
At 24 cents per Kwh, you pay almost 5 times what I pay here which is around 5,2 cents US per kwh And our prices are strickly regulated as the electric company belong to the government And the gov still make billions in profits Something is wrong with US systems
Comment from : Pierre Pellerin

Etienne Louw
I live in Cape Town, South Africa Here we have power outages called "load shedding" so solar is for electrical survival I have a small off grid mobile system at the moment, just enough to run one small fridge for 4 hours I am intending to build a second system that is a bit bigger with pole mounted manual solar tracking, again off grid, but with a second distribution board and some plugs run to my fridges that is completely separate from the grid I am a qualified electrician

Hi Matt, I watch your videos often and appreciate the research you do when producing the videos I have a question that I hope you can answer and with the answer with reference to for me to do research as well We have guys selling solar panels/programs and they have some good information HOWEVER, none can answer the following question I have How will the actually perform with a direct hit from and M7 solar flare/storm I think the inverters at the very least will be destroyed The other issue with the power grid, whether local/city or larger state or nation grids go down If I understand this correctly, if the grids go down, you can use perfectly good panels on your roof You either generate while connected in order to put back on the grid or you get nothing Using a battery is not an option not at $17,000 for a battery I'm hopeful you can guide me in a direction to find this information All the best and great work! Randy

TheSkepticSkwerl
30 cents a KWh? In colorado springs its 7-8 and can jump up to 12 if we use a ton

Hold on there I can’t throw a tv out without it costing me and solar panels are far more environmentally damaging How much does it cost to dispose or recycle panels?

I wanted a Tesla system, but they don't have installers in my area, so I started getting quotes from local installers Ballpark all local guys are about $10K more than what Tesla quoted me I wanted Tesla Power Walls but the one contractor really pushed me to reconsider So we will probably go with panels first as their system will be designed and built as "battery ready" His initial proposal was a system that replaced about 86 of last year's usage but he only placed the panels on the back side of my east/west facing home as I had mentioned my HOA might be a problem So I asked him to place some panels on the front of my home to get me OVER 100 production of last year's usage May as well force my HOA's hand, I can always go back to the original plan We'll visit battery backup in a year or so

I had Solar put on my roof last year round Nov… Took a little while before I could actually use them due to company was backed up with installs…March 20th I was able to use them Full month of April I seen a difference bill is originally $340 now it was $216… Same for May, June roll around I have $1000 credit to my light bill & it automatically applied the $216 so no bill for the next 5 months ……So basically what happens is while me & my wife are at work & not using electricity, the electricity the panels generate is sent to the electric company & they use it to supply other houses with energy & they pay us credit return Be better if it was a check instead 😁 but I’ll take the light bill credit… We also have a app to tell us how much we’ve consumed from the panel, grid & how we’ve sold to the grid Performance of our panels & everything, awesome app!
Comment from : Big Business

quartytypo
All the holes solar panels need for roof mounting, is begging for roof leaks
Comment from : quartytypo

Aberration
In south Texas we pay $11 per kilowatt Absolutely no point to install panels

Cletus Tollery
Perfect! Let idiots put stuff on the roof that, when it leaks, ruins the house and is a health risk Perhaps from an EV garage fire when that gets wet or has a short 40 years of gas and diesel trucks not one on fire due to rainwater and no need for a hazmat crew to deal with batteries not made in the US Get your heads out people!

I don't understand your saving ,but don't you have to pay for all that solar system that's not cheap there not putting up panels for free
Comment from : Keepyourjob Keepyourjob

Benito Santiago
I’m a realtor here in Florida in the panhandle and as of right now not much value is being given to homes for solar panels For example, a lot of homes with panels that cost 40 to 50 K ended up receiving value by appraisers at no more than 10 K This makes the investment not make sense unless you plan on staying in the home for 10+ years Also, they 100 increase the cost of your insurance here for most companies If you ever need a roof replacement It costs more money with the panels on there because they charge for the removal and reinstallation of each panel
Comment from : Benito Santiago

Erlpen2016
That add about insurance is nothing but bologna…stick to the solar panels!!!!
Comment from : Erlpen2016

theterminaldave
No idea if Matt will be seeing this comment, but I wondered if the loss that you noticed, could have been related to the panels needing to be cleaned I've heard of cases where the expected output had reduced to nearly 15, but simply needed to be cleaned because of dust that had built up on the panels
Comment from : theterminaldave

rick olszowy
I've had panels for 12 yearswait till your panels or inverters start to fail Your costs will go up quickly
Comment from : rick olszowy

Christopher
I am in uk best thing I have done
Comment from : Christopher

Crypto Beard
As Realtor Homes values do NOT increase with solar panels, and liens created by solar panels can delay closings I know this because I've experienced it first hand The Solar panels weren't a boost for the property I sold Solar can be a good investment to lower costs but it just depends where you live
Comment from : Crypto Beard

Carpe Diem Arts
Friend of a friend gad a degree in engineering (both of them actually) and the guy in question made a "recipe" for solar panels that wouldn't decay for around a hundred years Downside was that the initial output was only 75 of the existing solar panels Would defeat a company's profit perogative to manufacture or consumers to buy
Comment from : Carpe Diem Arts

Harvey Woods
Hey Matt, my name is Greg and I run a Harvey Woods just north of you in PortsmouthbrbrIf you need a solar installer or have customers in NH, we would love to collaboratebrbrWe have some disruptive solar tech that you will love The goal is to rapidly scale PV deploymentbrbrIf you want to connect, reach out! brbrGreat content Love your work Reliable data

Comment from : Martin Connerty

Thank you Not interested in "kooky" clean energy but, I AM interested in the the $$ savings Good info
Comment from : Steve D

John Bell
Solar is a no brainer, 🇬🇧
Comment from : John Bell

Jaredius
I am more concerned with the lifespan of the batteries and how the raw materials are acquired to make the batteries Also, the frequency and cost of battery replacement seems absent from this video Where do the old batteries go? We all know where the feds got the money to pay out credits and subsidize these projects and unfortunately low income taxpayers get nothing but higher taxes to fund these transfer of wealth schemes Remove the taxpayer subsidies and artisanal slave mines in Africa and it is a pretty neat energy solution albeit still not very “clean” or financially feasible for everyone in society
Comment from : Jaredius

Mike Coffey
You guys talk about how great it is but itsnot ,the purchase price alone is extreme ,everyplace in the US is different weather wise, and my biggest peave is by mounting those panels on your roof you void the warranty and possibly of leaks on every mounted part
Comment from : Mike Coffey

Jo In
It's all LIES! You see people, like me, invest so much money they can't ever say they made a mistake; I can! I spent $65,000 on my system My electric bill went down about $100 a month AFTER the electric company adds their $100+ just for having solar (Solar usage fees/tax) But I'm also trying to pay these worthless things off ASAP at $1,000 a month So yea, my electric bill tripled after having solar installed The only people who are making money are those installers and banks; YOU WON'T!
Comment from : Jo In

☀️ GetSolar_Girl ☀️
I love my panels 400 kilowatts, 2 years in Locked in at 19 finance What I like the most is the 25-year PRODUCTION GUARANTEE So for the entire life of the loan my system is guaranteed to make a certain amount of energy or I'm Patios the difference I pay out of pocket AND they will correct my system
Comment from : ☀️ GetSolar_Girl ☀️

John Amato
Thank you for this information I love in Washington state and we are buying our first home Planning on using the solar grants
Comment from : John Amato

Andy Kaufman
Why did you get so many panels in the house
Comment from : Andy Kaufman

꙲
I spent 20k for a grid tie system that because of the electric company I wasn't able to connect without insurance coverage that would cost twice the production I had a fire and now I have no grid power I barely can get power now and solar was ruined for me, I have 16 panels on my roof for over a year that produced nothing, and now I am poor with a fucked house and no power I will never grid tie a system again and will always recommended offgrid setups
Comment from : ꙲

Darin Ladick
Unless you live in a state that pays for SREC credits it’s not worth it
Comment from : Darin Ladick

Richard Gray
I live in Perth Australia Installed a 225kw system about 8 years ago System often produced 26kw of power My bill dropped by 50 percent Maybe more After 5 years Still produced more than 90 percent compared to install day
Comment from : Richard Gray

Tom Smith
Sounds like a sales man
Comment from : Tom Smith

Terry Tenley
I must say those folks who convert dc to ac at the end are in for huge pit falls vs those folks who use microinverters and convert right at the panelmicro inverters cost 10 more but also yield way more power fog, clouds, smoke, overcast, etc really ruin solar collects but not so much with microinverters if for example in the future a panel is ruined the panel must be the same as a replacement but with micro inverters the size does not matter
Comment from : Terry Tenley

Budz
In Australia solar is an absolute no brainer

Comment from : Sniperscottie

Curious about the ease of having a roof fixed if it has a large number of panels on it Any rough idea how much extra cost is added to have a roof redone?

LastHope
Power in my state is 1026¢/kWh where I live, the high cost of power there helps offset the cost, the savings/pay back would be nearly 3x less in my region
Comment from : LastHope

LastHope
If you want to be super creative you can opt for water cooled panels, than you can use the heat the panels generate for some free hot water, or as I witnessed floor heaters
Comment from : LastHope

mimkay444
what happens when you have to change your roof shingles, is it easy to take off solar panels and put back on?
Comment from : mimkay444

K D
Challenge the argument not the person Well your argument stinks Solar panels are NOT CLEAN ENERGY! The CO2 footprint just to make the panels and the batteries negates the “clean” argument for more than half their life 10 years ago when were not educated about solar strengths and weakness we called it “clean”, but we know better now Just stop The “cleanest” form of energy is nuclear The reason for buying panels is not because they’re clean it’s 100 about the financial aspect Please stick to facts and don’t try to shine us on with your politics
Comment from : K D

Dan Martin
I got ripped off, paying 75k for system in 30 years, its more expensive than the grid, I'm stuck with this, educate yourself before you buy, im in arizona by the way we have alot of sun, not worth it
Comment from : Dan Martin

Rob Gau
I thought I clicked on That Chapter for a second
Comment from : Rob Gau

Jeff T
We are currently in the process of getting solar One of the first questions I asked was resale valuebrbrThe system we are looking is zero net metering While there's no guarantee that I'll never have an electric bill, they will be small
Comment from : Jeff T

Tom Fox
What would the cost/benefit look like if you were actually paying for the purchase not being subsidized? by innocent tax payers?
Comment from : Tom Fox

EryckDraven
Will you be using the same solar products on your new net-zero home?
Comment from : EryckDraven

Jay Jay
I have them on my off grid coloado cabin Works great Still have to run generator dec ,jan,Feb a little To even talk about solar in the north east is a joke This guy works for solar panel companies
Comment from : Jay Jay

J A
You got a great utility company I have PG&E and they're charging $051/kWh! My first electric bill for 28 days was $628 (not including natural gas cost) So, as you can guess, I've already contracted to get a 121kWh added to my roof 😉
