They minted kabillions of these worthless coppers and radiates Nearly all some constantine or variation of that name, 3rd century anarchy or obscure late 4th century emperor Comment from : Moneytane1976 |

Cool cannot wait to see what happens next Comment from : James Horsted |

Your not supposed to use tap water since It has all the minerals in and can damage the coin, and olive oil tone the coins, you can use distilled water and let them sit in the distilled water for a week and change the water daily while scrubbing and picking off the dirt with a toothpick Comment from : zack edgeworth |
|
That was brutal to watch Comment from : Robert Stano |

The second coin is a commemorative coin of the founding of Constantinople Next is a fallen horseman a4 coin The next one is a Follis from the tetrarchy, the back has Genio and reads GENIO POPVLI ROMANI which basically is to say that he is the defender of the Roman people, the mottled color comes from a mix of breaks through the silver plating to the patina and patina to raw metal The last one is an antoninionus post Aurelian coin from the 3rd century brbrTry buying premium coins from Nero Coins or Dirty Old Coins, at $3 a piece they are all better than any of these Comment from : Nathaniels Creative Collections |
|
Its kinda crazy to think coins that are 1600+ years old can be worth less than some coins that were minted yesterday Comment from : J Woods |

The comments so far are actually pretty useful and are mostly spot on It's awesome that Classical Numismatics watched this and commented on it I don't know "burp EE" but that comment is even more precise than what I was going to offer Their guesses are either going to be correct or close brThere was nothing in your video that seemed wrong to me These coins are probably only worth between a nickel and two or three bucks each, so have fun and experiment a little Olive oil might produce a color change you are unhappy with, distilled water is also common to use I like that these coins were actually uncleaned, usually coins sold as uncleaned are just culls These may be culls too, but at least there was some dirt on them! It will be interesting to see what magic the soak may actually do Comment from : Mark Petersen |
|
Use mineral not olive oil Just like a cutting board Olive oil will go rancid after a while, making the coins stink as well look ugly Comment from : greg gelato |

I have bought almost all my Roman coins on Ebay In my opinion, I think it’s the best place to buy all your Roman coins One little coin to start your Roman coin collection is the $30 random graded Roman coin I bought one and let me tell you, best decision I have ever made A beautiful coin from 282 AD that I love to this day Comment from : Thomas Heyworth |
|
For that amount of money, ure much better off getting a single, decent-looking Roman coin that has already been cleanedbrThere is a very mature online market for Roman and Greek coins online, from normal sellers to auction houses Id rather buy them there, at least until I have experience :)brbrI have never purchased from Amazon, but Id guess its a similar situation to eBay, where there are good dealers, sure, but there are also plenty of people trying to push fakes, although your particular coins are alrightbrbrIve recently made a video about the exact same kind of coin you show in your video, they are called "late roman bronzes", you should check it out! Comment from : Classical Numismatics |

I can get approximate ids for the ancients, after cleaning The first one is probably the hardest of the lot to id, I think I see traces of a two victories facing each other reverse, its definitely a AE3 denomination, but that could be a muititude of emperors of the Constantinian dynasty brbrThe second coin, I can say for sure is a AE3 denomination Constantinopolis commemorative issue circulation coin, minted between 330-337 CE, with victory on a prow, celebrating the city of ConstantinoplebrbrThe third coin looks to be a AE3 denomination fallen horseman late roman bronze coin of Constantius II, who ruled as Augustus between 337-361 CE, this general type is arguably the most common ancient Roman coin type out therebrbrThe fourth coin, looks to be a reduced follis, with genio standing leftwards, I can't quite make out the emperor's name, and the portrait isn't giving me any clues, best bet would be Licinius, or Constantine IbrbrThe final coin is a antoninianus of emperor Aurelian, who ruled between 270-275 CE, I can't quite make out the reverse, I think I see a seated figure?brbrSadly, I cannot provide full in depth ids, due to the condition of the coins, but i'm happy to see that you've made a forray into ancient coins Comment from : Noname |
|
You could use that coin identify app that was sponsoring you a while back You were Hocking that one like crazy LOL Comment from : shady c network |

Nice vid! I collect Roman coins and I have gotten ones with amazing details from a reputable dealer for just $5 each I would recommend a dealer over Amazon because you can get better coins for less, but I am glad that you like them Thanks for the amazing videos!!! Comment from : TheCoinPirate |

Yes I hear Olive Oil is the best thing for old coins that have been in the ground Although I have heard it can take months to fully work And you would probably need to change it out every so often Distilled water is the best kind of water to use as it is free from impurities and won't leave spots brSome people will say don't clean coins ever I say with coins that would be effectively worthless clean away, but gently You can turn a dirty worthless coin that you don't know what it is into a cleaned decent coin, that you know what it is, to have in your collection One that you can touch and handle without worry of damaging it One that you can give to a young kid without worrying about its value Comment from : Original Atogs Coins |
