Honestly people who receive tax returns every year should be the one who doesn't get social security at all in my opinion if it ever were to get in trouble and why? coz there are people like me who never receive a tax return or any kind of help ever from government and we are paying over 10k plus tax every year plus no health insurance benefits or child benefit or nothing we are just paying an paying not getting anything so when the trouble times comes we should be the priority coz we gave more to the government

Another problem is that some of us won't trust any measures passed to preserve the system to be anything but kicking the can down the road If there was trust the easy solution would be just to raise taxes and maybe raise the retirement age a bit, but I am sure it is too tempting for politicians to just delay things for 5-10 years for one group of voters for be happy, but the problem still will get crushed under the weight anyways

Personally I’ve never much understood social security, as it seems like a government mandated Ponzi scheme to me Like a Ponzi scheme it can only continue to function paying out current ‘investors’ by getting funds from new investors, and when the number of new investors drop, it cannot sustain itself The idea that I’m legally required to ‘invest’ in social security and have no control over my investment and will likely receive less than I put in it because there aren’t enough new workers to pay me out, really upsets me, since I could instead take that 126 of my income and actually invest it in something guaranteed to be able to return my investment down the line
