What a load of rubbish she is speaking She is a convicted drink driver who could have easily kill anyone when on the road brAnd believe me, NA is nothing like how she's explaining AA is You have to be clean for years before you can give advice to newcomers It's nothing like a cult it's more like a loving family Comment from : Matthew William Armitage |

I started my sobriety in AA But I find I negitive and don’t like the war stories Me and my wife don’t drink and we don’t talk about it I don’t like sharing stories of my drinking days and she does not like to hear it I go to a AA meeting and hear about alcohol and alcohol related events and just don’t like to bring myself back to that part of my life That’s why I don’t go Comment from : P B |
suggest not promote aa i think what your are saying? Comment from : cjmn |

People can have negative experiences in AA we all have but that's where steps come in that's where u find different groups every group is not the same what matters is you stay sober don't listen to gossip and the ones not practicing the program you stay away from it's good you are still reading and praying but the steps are the key 03/25/08🙏🙏 AA is everything to my family many are sober because of the program you can't let the people run your program for me God does Comment from : bc |
Wow, I wonder how much she charges for her "System of Recovery"????br$100 to $250 Comment from : SkepticalAtheist |
My association with AA spans from 1989 to present I agree that discernment is definitely necessary in 12-step groups However, over the years I have found AA's altruistic approach much more beneficial than for-profit counseling That's my experience Comment from : Flowjestic Motion |
Wow, you didn't spend much time telling us why you stopped going to AA meetings It sounds like you are having trouble seeing the forest through the trees Comment from : Victor Piatt |

I think we should do the opposite and stop sending people to AA and start offering science-based solutions Comment from : Tena R |

A couple of things stand out It is a spiritual axiom that any time we experience something is wrong the wrong 9s with us Period This does not mean we have done something wrong but the condition of wrong is from our spirit When such a difficulty or disturbance arises we have been clear-cut directions on what to do We take an honest look at it and see our part in it when there is one When there is not, we forgive the one at fault for we treat them as we would a sick friend Getting away from them is not really how we would treat a sick friend Secondly, when we are seeking remove ourselves from that which disturbs us we are missing an opportunity Someone wiser than me once said that pain is the touchstone of ALL spiritual progress This means avoiding that which pains us is us not growing in our spirit and seeking self-satisfaction in comfort The last thing that stands out is that leaving a program that no longer serves one's needs is quite selfish AA is a program of spiritual awakening If the lack of self is what is spiritual, the concern for self is not Paradoxically, we do not seek for self and the self may be at its best in this mode So, not GETTING anything from AA that helps and feeling overwhelmed with the wrongs in AA is a move towars self There are problems with AA Yet, self will run riot was the course that led me to seek ease and comfort from the causes and conditions of my spritual malady and pain The steps were the actions that led me to learn to live out of self and not for self, thereby not acting to remove the pain but to pereservere and accept life on life's terms The goal of AA is not to teach us a new way of seeking ease and comfort through fellowship and supportive paths The goal of AA is have a spiritual awakening as the result of the steps and to carry that message to one who still suffers We trudge in the muck of life as disciples who have found solace in our spirit and not in relief We are transformed from once being malformed We are the light in the darkness for we know the darkness We see the sick and do not fear the sickness since we have overcome and recovered It stopped working for me becaues the negatives outweighed the postitves still has to do with self interest That may be sober but it is not spiritual I am not a fan of AA but it is not a movie or some element that requires likeablity I am one who took inventory of what harmed me and who I harmed, and looked honestly at how it left me wounded I admitted just how maladjusted I was and took action to address it I repaired and restored what I could to make it right and learned to live daily with an honest look at how, even in sobriety, I am still selfish an in fear I sought to depend on my selfl less and found direction in a power other than myselft This is a way of being and living in spirit and not with the material subtance of the world I suffered from a spiritual malady and have found a way to live in good spirit When something bothers me I follow the clear-cut directions to see how I can be of service Admitting I have a role in most wrongs, forgiving those who still wrong me and turning my attention to another are all moves from what my self-inclination would like me to do In this, problems beome part of the solution and spiritual growth is abundant The human condtion ensures I will be uncomfortable This is what spurs progress towards perfection Perfection may not be the lack of problems but abundance of solutions to our problems Comment from : Ary Bolaños |
AA police lol I still go to AA but I am not the AA police have a blessed day!!!!! Comment from : David Johnson |

What nonsense For someone whose choice is life or death AA is the answer Comment from : ljohnmiller |

15 years sober and very active in AA AA allowed be to save my own life and I still attend Funny, I never noticed you stopped attending but good luck Comment from : Steven Kapela |
Fabulous talk Yes AA has become a religion for many a sick secularist cult With its religious chants and silliness Sad to see Its steps are borrowed from Ignation principles which are hundreds of years old You haven’t spoke about the problem with AA is it’s inability to practice the twelve traditions Godbless Comment from : Keith Yost |
"AA Police" 😂 Comment from : Jupiter Apollo |
My sponsor was this really mellow, lovely woman, kind of from a broke background, and we were all going to meetings on the wealthy side of town, and as it turned out, she had that loveliness and rich ladies felt comfortable around her, at times more than they did around each other One of the rich women bought her a car, I’m pretty sure, a volvo She was kind of hustling the women, I heard InterestingbrI feel safe in the background in Aa Now, on zoom, I’ve been going to meetings and using a pseudonym I had A NUMBER of really bad experiences w women in the program Comment from : Help your cat to drive |
I commented here before And you responded Thank you so much for your response I’m having a hard time with AA Thank you for your comments here Thank you for the video❤ Comment from : Help your cat to drive |
I really appreciate this video After several negative experiences, including the murder of my sponsor by another member, I've never been able to get back that feeling of safety and camaraderie I had my first few years in the program Add that to having had more psychoeducation on developmental trauma that's incongruous with 12 step mythology, and I just don't feel like I belong there anymore The cults are definitely there Narcissistic members creating little followings around themselves It's gross But most of the stuff i see and hear about leaving 12 step is more like building a case for relapse than open minded growth, which is what I'm hearing here I'm so happy there are more options than there used to be ❤ Comment from : S M |
I know a great prayer that can help you with this resentment on p 552 Comment from : Jean Wodnicki |
Hmm not sure about this Great that other things and meetings offered but seems negative Got a bit nasty at the end Kind of wish i hadnt watched it It has made me realise i need to get on with my step 4 and its determined my reslove in doing it However i think i now know your not a member of aa 😂 It seems like a way to vent about aa but still work a 12 step programme? Comment from : Josh Paine |
Thank You 🙏 Comment from : Pablo Brown |
I have tried several 12 steps and just ended a sponsorship relationship in a fellowship I found the demands on my time too much and the constant negative view through daily step 10 reviews were horrible The control my sponsor had on my time and life was not for me brIt wasn't a substance use programme I attended but I wanted a safe space and I no longer felt safe and supported brAlso, step 3 is about coming to believe in a HP, it isn't the programme that works, it is trusting my HP not my sponsor brIn the UK, AA is not endorsed by substance recovery programmes, 12 step programmes that are not run by trained and qualified therapists can be dangerous and I found some of the literature being shared was not endorsed by the programme and could have been made up by a drunk sat in a bar brThere should be more regulation Comment from : Woman of Character |
Without AA I would be dead Period You can get sober anyway you want How do you get a person that has been sociopathic and cold to start loving other people and being unselfish? If you can THINK your own way out of that my hat is off to you AA is for real spiritually degraded people And it DOES work if YOU WORK IT Its not so you can achieve a wonderful material life it is a spiritual program Comment from : Knosis |
Sounds like a monopoly AA wants Anyways one drink in 365 days they consider you an alcoholic is a little extreme They don't even know about AUD or medication for alcohol Also some people can't go cold turkey due to severe side effects which AA doesn't recognized Another treatment for cravings is l-glutamine for the glutamate receptors which they don't mention Guess they don't believe in modern medicine Comment from : hatchet |
Many folks join AA but are only heavy drinkers and they can stop if properly motivated As a chronic alcoholic I found I have a 3 fold illness and my recovery is based on daily reprieve of the underlying spiritual malady The 12 steps and he work helped me recovery physically and emotionally I left AA for 10 years and convinced myself I was fine, turns out my addiction to alcohol got worse I’m lucky to be back working a program of recovery and grateful for my vastly improved life It took what it took and my disease convinced me I stick with the people who have and currently work the program as laid out in the Big Book There are people including myself who have experienced trauma from a family of alcoholism Many of them do recover if willing to do the irk I stay away from those who refuse to work the steps It’s a genetic condition Recovery gave me understanding, forgiveness and love Stick with the winners and reach out to help another struggling to recover Comment from : Kate Holmes |

Book Sales Comment from : MizzAugust |

Most people who Stop- ONLY GO to about an average of 3 meetings Alanon is for the Loved Ones of Alcoholics, NOT for the alcoholic IF she wanted FRIENDS & SUPPORT For Her Lifetime- she WOULD have stuck around- Not going to wait for her reason, it makes no difference as she does Not Think it for HER- me 38 Years- Lets see her Sober in 38 years& NOT BUYING HER BOOK Comment from : MizzAugust |
I was told what 'social class' I was in and to stay away from attractive women Yeah, AA's not a dating agency but there is plenty of acting out and I didn't appreciate being categorised by a bunch of rich boys and old slappers Comment from : nick papadimitriou |
Bless you for being honest and brave and vulnerable 🙏 Comment from : Don Derrick |
The reality is, AA has losts its way, no one reads the books anymore, AA gets confused with AA meetingsbrbrbrThe only purpose of AA meetings is to introduce new people to the program, that's why they existbrbrThe 12 steps of AA are a foundation for spiritual growth to go beyond AAbrbrbrUnfortunately, sick fucks in AA have turned it into cult Sick fucks that dont even read the book, rhatsbdont care about the book, rhey are just there to take advantage of people Comment from : Wretch King |

This is so refreshing to hear I am a recovering heroin addict in central Florida I have been attending 12 step recovery meetings for over a year off and am in a methadone treatment program to taper from opioids It is refreshing to hear that there are more inclusive options Comment from : Joshua Austin |
I'm in my 30th year of continuous sobriety I stopped going for a few years and was ok but I found I really missed the camaraderie An instant family all over the world!br I've now got a feckin ARMY behind me again!!!❤ Comment from : spike |
AA is based off Christian conversion experience and life principles The founder was converted by people from the Oxford group He got what is know as being Saved Unless your heart and mind are converted to a REAL higher power namely Jesus Christ you may not heal your addiction My identity is not an alcoholic I’m a child of God Christ is my higher power I still go to meetings but I’m convinced that spiritual conversation needs to happen and I think Christ is the real answer Comment from : mike garza |
I’m sober 38 years I go occasionally People have been saying the same thing for decades AA doesn’t work very well but the other programs are very short term and useless in the long term It is a joke to be an authority on AA and how to stay sober after just a few years brbrMaybe she takes pills as many who manage without AA do It requires great strength of character to remain in AA The key thing this expert dies not understand is that some people remain in AA to give back the gift that was given to them out of the goodness of their heart knowing that they don’t need to go any more brbrI was able to help my daughters friend who was slashing her wrists because she could not stop brbrMy experience of AA members is that they were difficult damaged people that I had to learn to tolerate These other « better « programs are full of the same type of people brbrThe worst thing I heard in an AA meeting was a guy who decided AA was not for him and left and got drunk He got into his car one day and drive over his 3 year old son and killed him It is a dangerous business to play with people’s lives with such shallow uninformed views expressed here Comment from : Roger Connolly |
Arrogance and pride a no no for any whole recovered person People that are broken needs help, please remember that Comment from : Iris Volschenk |
I left along time ago and as soon just after I left I got sober It is like going to the doctors and the patients in the waiting room treating u for your addiction it is ridiculous as the people helping the person get sober is another sick person Comment from : Fran Sinclair |
Let's be honest It's a cult Comment from : The Pragmatist |
I am currently attending na meetings doing steps the four suggested but im starting to lose faith as like you said in this video too many sick people me being one of them and having to attend meetings and associate with toxic people who i am trying to stay away from who ive had a lifetime of dealing with! I must admit there are some beautiful people who i can call friends and are very supportive but too many sick people that bring out the worst in me, behaviours i am trying to leave behind I will take some goodness the growth my step work has brought in me but meetings are not for me anymore my mental health is struggling and the meetings are making it worse Comment from : suzanne howarth |
13:05 I love that she goes into other non-12 step recovery program options here: Recovery Dharma, LifeRing, Celebrate Recovery, SMART Recovery and Fostering Resilience She said she has posted videos on all of the above Thank you! Comment from : Esther |
So true Comment from : Zach Smith |
That is an Oscar-worthy performance of narcissistic gaslighting AA has mentally ill people and meanies so I need to start my own cult, but conveniently with no traditions like anonymity and universal acceptance, so you can show your face on YouTube With no acceptance of people, I DON"T want But hey I mentioned other groups so I covered my ass Certainly, your gratitude is so great that you did not stick around to help others and stop meanies You are either self-deluded or totally calculating and I fear the latter, full of crap And your credentials mean a lot of BS if this is your answer to post here to get more culties and clients To me, you are the dangerous one Join my group, run my way or the highway, only my special people are worthy are you worthy? I can see this from a mile away and you can too I'm tired of users like you and have been speaking up against you're kind for 40 years Comment from : Humboldt Harvey |
I didnt have the best experience I was guilted and shamed to get off my medication because I wasnt "sober" enough Thats when I spiraled Ended up drinking again, but took naltrexone before Now on the Sinclair method and lost all my "friends" from the fellowship I'm doing great btw Comment from : kwAnthony1986 |

Thank yoy for yoyr story Comment from : jksynth |

Ahhhh… Ego is not our amigos my friend… the twelve steps of recovery are not exclusive to AA there are numerous 12 step programs and the general service office shouldn’t be sitting on their high horse like they are the Gods of the program… suggesting that they are the pharisees of AA and have the right and power to demand action on others… that’s bullshit… some people are sicker than others and some people get off on this ego trip of being an Alist recovery gurus and all must bow… To their way of the highway… the Whole Point of AA is that you’re not fucking GodbrbrOn the flip side of that girly… they totally got under your skin, you don’t need to let the ego come in play yourself… you don’t need to prove/justify to anyone the reasons why you are working in recovery and qualified to do so by listing all your qualifications and degrees This is all a bit childish but I totally get it I would have reacted the same as I have numerous degrees as well… and learning how to respond instead of react is still an ongoing process for me… but you have a PhD in recovery amongst other degrees certifications and are beyond qualified to help others in recovery and you don’t need to prove anything… they don’t govern you and your mission to help others in recovery with the skill set you have which has benefitted so many in the world brbrThis is what the traditions and big book tries to negate… human beings natural ego trip and power trip being attached to the program brbrI would be curious to know the reasons why they believed your videos and channel violated their “AA internet terms and agreements” and thus why they felt warranted to shut you down… and curious to know the name of the individual that emailed you from the office because honestly it sounds like they should be reported and benched brbrIt’s sad that the end result of this situation was a bad taste in your mouth about AA and complete disconnect from participating in AA program all together Because honestly it’s shit like this that gives AA program a bad name and deters people from getting involved altogether, because it is a life saving program that needs helpers and services members such as yourself that have the education and knowledge to help newcomers… and honestly there should absolutely be no such thing as AA police or rules and regulations for online support all together from a service office attaching their name to AA Comment from : Laura Hope |
If you don't feel safe, take a look in the mirror Your ego is the problem It's hilarious when a raging egomaniac drunk doesn't feel safe in AA because of all the secret cults and people with bad motives ITS NOT ABOUT YOU! Find somebody you can help and the power of God will set you free Comment from : Killroy |
I've been in program for almost 10 years After I retired and relocated from one state to another (six years ago) I found I was unable to locate a group nearby where I felt comfortable so I just started attending meetings online in other states Thankfully, that has worked out really well for me I also enjoy listening to various podcasts, and not all of them are 12-step driven Comment from : DeerHaven |
I grew up in the JW cult AA is definitely a cult and I never felt comfortable there AA always made me feel lesser than Just like JW’s I did my worst drinking when I was in AA I was a diehard btw I went to a meeting every day 6:30am Every week day I don’t recommend AA It’s sad that they don’t publicize good programs Comment from : bluefishjoe |
Go to meetings not to get but to give im sober now and doing my step 4/5 it works if you dont like certain people stay away from them AA works 🎉 Comment from : karl fogarty |
I been looking for an excuse to stop AA brThanks 😂😂😂 Comment from : Cecilia Cuen |
AA is not for people who need it Its for people who want it You did not want it Simple There is nothing wrong with AA IT IS NOT FOR YOU Comment from : suzanne fernandez |
You remind me of a Woman I met years ago Anne Wildman I've found there are two types of meetings, rooms of recovery for the real addicts and the closets full of victims for the pretenders ,control freaks and narcacistsand in your case the ones whom honestly think Gods gone on holiday and left them in chargeThey unfortunately honestly believe they are so smart the chosen ones to carry the message usually trying to make a business and buck out of it at the same time (hypocrites)The reality is they are static arrogant and toxic and in reality carry the disease instead as I dare say you have been told many many times beforeGod bless you 👍 Comment from : Gerald Wenn |
Define specifically the cults within AA? CR is a 12 step program Comment from : mark dellacqua |

That's too bad ur videos were so positive & you explained things so well When I saw the title for this video, I had an immediate feeling that u got some weird backlash!brOne thing I experienced up close & personal was I had an Aunt who literally barely drank ever! And when her husband died, she began going to AA, and it was so strange, like everyone in the family said it became like "cultish" about it& it had nothing to do with God, infact,I don't think she even mentioned God, or even was a believer Every person she met who drank a drip of liquor she claimed they were an alcoholic I don't know, but how she touted the whole AA thing about herself was most disturbingas NO ONE could figure it out as no one knew her as a drinker!!! To be objective, maybe there is more there than we know But u literally couldn't have a conversation without her taking & changing the subject all about AA brbrThe only thing I don't understand is when the people stand up and say their names & identify as an alcoholiclike their name & alcoholic r one in the samebrWhat I believe is when ur healed of the "dis-ease", of alcohol, or any other diseaseu are healed Yes, one needs to keep your relationship with God, intensely soand reach out and talk to others who r where u once was in helping othersbrMy bottom line messageis ur 12 step videos were so insightful & I am very sad for those who have been badgering you! Who knows, maybe they r just jealous! Hold ur head high, I surely will continue u watch, & subscribing right now!brGod Bless, & have a lovely day!^ Comment from : Shar Cipriano |
I definitely noticed the cults and when one of my friends relapsed and eventually committed suicide, she was bashed all over facebook Really pathetic I’ll never go back Comment from : Kristine Gilbert |
Why does no one know anything and yet all the same things Comment from : Dal |
You are confused You say your not going to Aa but you go once a week Comment from : Kevin |
The program works if you work the program period I would use these excuses through all of my relapses my whole life and now that I’ve committed worked with my sponsor and did the steps and continue to work a sold program my life has never been better life is great and I owe it to my recovery program Comment from : Eric Oliver |
You have to work on the program that works for you Comment from : Quincy Mathis |
Cults? What do you mean? Comment from : Grant Stewart |
I feel that AA is Cult one of the lesser one with that said, taking inventory with your sponsor Now your sponsor knows all about you all the bad things you've done! That is the first sign of a cult they want to know all your secrets! I don't believe in rehab only a 2 success rate! If you needed an operation for something and there was only a 2 success rate of that operation would you do it? Rehabs are just a money-making business! They tell you you were cover for 28 days after ten days they come to you and say that your insurance ran out behind your back they call your family and your family wines up paying for the rest of your stay if they can afford it! They Bully your family into paying out-of-pocket! This is my experience! They give you false hope and promises! ✌🏼✌🏼 Comment from : @winros |
