I'm 48, sad to say I made terrible money decisions growing up which I'm presently paying for, been dedicating every waking hours towards my retirement and I'd really love to retire to Portugal with atleast $3million by, the market up and down is not helping at all

If you have 80 invested and use 20 to live on And the market drops so you lose - let's say from 800K to 700K How can you invest more? There isn't the liquidity to do so And the stocks and bonds you hold are not performing they way the did before COVID And all I know is that buying S & B is like throwing darts!

should your saved amount also depend on how long you have been making that much money? For example, if you're 55 and have been making 100k for the 10months should your multiple still be 6 ?

What about factoring social security? Many guys I know that are 55 have 250k and less saved but we have military pensions

Why do such calculations based on income? Expenses are a much more accurate way to predict how much will be needed (and should be saved) for retirement
