Most places I checked into the starting pay is 50k with average of 70k I'm from Louisiana and the state pay range is 50 -80k I'm in California now and it starts at 70k to 120k That doesn't include freelancing and entrepreneurial endeavors

I’m doing it in the uk; my degree is a Bsc as it emphasises evidence based practice - research and being able to access that through social work theories and models if a case is complex and you’re assessing a situation The burn out and case load is a huge issue in the UK, but career opportunities are higher because of that I don’t want to work with children and families because of this; I’d rather work with adults

I have my undergraduate degree in social work I wanted to somewhat get my MSW butI can't do the required field placementstoo many hours Also, since I graduated back in 2014, I can't do advanced standing here in my local area Again, the field requirement is ridiculous!!! I would have to complete two field placements!!! No thank you!! It's cool though since I also have an HR background brbrI don't feel cheated since I was able to use my GI Bill for an almost free education I didn't want the MSW to practice or work in the field ( I worked in both juvenile and adult corrections)I enjoyed my undergrad social work coursework but, I always thought that I would end up back in HR 😇😇

To answer, maybe maybe not Just a note: A cup of water is just a cup of water To the human eye it doesn’t have any impurities To scientists and experts it requires a filter You can take away from it or add to it You can add flavor, you can add salt, you can even add sugar Whatever you add or subtract from that water is how it will taste Remember your children are like cups of water You are not the only person pouring into them and not the only person taking ingredients away They encounter people everywhere as they come and go Unlike water they also watch and mimic your behavior from time to time Those children who can be sweet, salty, bitter, or mean eventually grow up So keep that in mind when you realize that your little water has grown up to be a glass of dry wine, semisweet coffee, flat soda, or vodka and rum This was for the parents who lack accountability and pass that weight on to their children God bless the social workers in the field who take the time to help

As a current BSW student who intends to go to grad school and get my clinical liscence, it should also be noted there are many people in the profession who indoctrinate students into believing they can't be a good social workers and get paid well You may have to get an MSW and liscencing to get paid decent, but it's an obtainable goal My university offers a number of graduate assistantships per cohort and prioritize students who have participated in advocacy and leadership roles during undergrad, so it isn't far fetched for someone in my situation to get their Masters paid for and a stipend for living expenses It's also an obtainable graduate degree for working adult There are many programs offered online and part time I know a number of social workers who paid out of pocket or negotiated tuition assistance through their employer

Satisfied one as well Located in NYbrWhen I had my BSW I was making 45k and when I got my MSW in 2020 I got a school gig staring at 78k plus holidays and summer off and awesome health insurance In addition, after getting my LMSW 2021, I started individual therapy which bumped me up to a little over 90k Annually, I get an increase to my salary and will be making 6 figures and over after just 4 years Also, many agencies are seeking social workers to be in an admin role due to their problem solving skills and the current mental health issues that is going on in America - school loan was low (30k) state colleges and scholarships

You can actually make decent money with a MSW depending on where you live and even more once you acquire a LCSW A fresh MSW graduate can make around 75k now in California and once you obtain your LCSW you can make around 90k and once you gain more experience you can easily get to 100k If you open your own private practice as a LCSW you can even make more than that I know some private practice LCSW who are making like 150k Of course this is all in California and this is about middle class wages now so you can defintely make enough money to support yourself and a family doing social work but your not going to be filthy rich

I would encourage people considering the BSW or MSW to look into Public Health I have a BSW and MSW in Michigan My sister has a masters in Public health and works for the CDC, I believe a public health degree gives you the range to work with all of the populations that SW's work with but with much higher salary expectations For my SW's, I've found that the health insurance companies pay very good starting anywhere from $65-75k and you're working from home

Becoming a social worker was the worst decision of my life It is definitely not for everyone And many social workers go into the field because they are codependent thinking their self worth and identity are about helping others But if others decide that they don't need your help (working with mandated clients like mine) your identity gets free to realize that your self worth is not defined by your ability to help others or in others needing you And you become sort of this free agent Anyway I am leaving the field of social work as soon as I can after making this realization after 8 years in the field

I have my LCSW I was making 45k with my BSW and I make 6 figures now One of the important things is social workers have to leverage their skill set I am a therapist and work as a family mediator for people divorcing I also work for a hospital inpatient psych and in adoptions Yes I work multiple jobs but that is just something people in my family do I could do fine with just one However if a social worker does not leverage their unique skill set they will stay under paid and under valued

It is so strange for me to get information about social work as a profession in US (and how it pays), cause I always wonderd if I should go to work in US I am from Slovenia, EU, and i have masters degree in social work The pay here is horrible, taking in consideration i have spent so many years at school (5 at university) and how hard the job actually is My pay after 10 years in a public gouverment job is around 2100 US $ before tax and 1400 US $ after tax per month (that is almost exactly an avarge pay here in Slovenia) I do sometimes work extra hours in "intervention unit", but that gives maybe around 300 US $ more per month And not to mention I work in the hardest field of social work, that is with victims of domestic violence and abusebrI guess living costs here are a lot lower, but nontheless being a social worker definetly doesn't pay off At least not monetarily

I graduated with a BSW last year and did one year in grad school I decided to withdraw because I felt burned out and I’m in the transition of looking into another career Although it was meaningful at times, I realized being overworked and underpaid doesn’t sound appealing when I want to live comfortably Another thing to mention is how often social workers are looked down upon compared to other helping professionals

I’m a bsw graduate and you are spot on I work in a juvenile detention center, didn’t plan to be there working with these kids but it pays well and I do get to help the kids It is a government job it’s just middle income but you do get burnt out quickly It’s very long hours and taxing mentally and physically Now I’m taking time to learn trades to better myself and start a business

As a social worker (in Florida) I can honestly say it doesn’t become worth it until you hit a masters level That’s when you have more options and make more money but it can be a long road and some more debt My BSW cost me 24K and my MSW cost me 15K (I was an advanced standing) Starting salary out of MSW program for me was 50K before taxes Just to give some number for anyone thinking about it

I have an MSW degree and 5 years of experience in the field and I only make 7k (rupees) a month Yes, there's satisfaction in helping people but being a person with dreams for a better life for oneself too (not being selfish), Social Work isn't a worthy degree to have Work is overloaded, we experience burnout and sometimes we end up being depressed We were taught that we are not doing it or giving out services for the money and in some way, it's all lies You'll eventually need an outstanding salary for the outstanding services you provide because a good salary makes you feel good and drives you to do your job even better I feel that I have wasted half of my life investing my money, time and knowledge in MSW It makes me sad writing this but it's the truth!!
