Comment from : John Bultman

When AOC, in her initiation week in Congress, tried to blow the whistle on how corporations were having sessions to "train" new Congresspeople but there were no citizen groups, she was vilified And now she too has become part of the corrupt system The whole thing needs to fall Unfortunately the only one with a plan to shut it down is Trump
Comment from : mobydog

tdrbrt
To a politician, the problem is the solution If they solved the problems, they wouldn't have job And, a politician keeping their job is the most important thing in the universe
Comment from : tdrbrt

tdrbrt
Drugs are a small portion of overall healthcare costs It will never work unless they reign in all costs But, good luck with that brbrAnd, you can't have it both ways forever A Harvard PhD wrote, ever generation of liberals think they can do what past generations of liberals failed to do He also wrote that they failed because it could not be done The aftermath is never prettybrbrAnd, do you know what they say about those who keep trying to do what can not be done?
Comment from : tdrbrt

Ajay
0:25 Why doesn't the federal government outright dictate the price of prescription drugs??
Comment from : Ajay

Richard McWolff
There is more to the convo but can't find it I'm sure the whole thing is on Apple TV, not buy another scription just to see it but after hearing the over saturation of lobbyists she mentioned it was quite disheartening I would take the right president and the right Congress and Senate to wrangle this disruptive group into submission It's more the other way around out own Government is held under the lobbyists sway Messed up!
Comment from : Richard McWolff

Darth GERG
There is a core problem of liberal refusal to look at SYSTEMIC causes of these problems and fix them at the source Most of the liberals in the US will correctly point to all of these downstream problems but are fundamentally unwilling to look at the headwaters from which all corruption flows Conservatives of course have no such problem because they are pro-corruption and too politically incoherent to be held to any sort of standard at all
Comment from : Darth GERG

Tabphgid1 T
When did John Kerry change his wig or gender? I liked his previous look
Comment from : Tabphgid1 T

CuppaTea _Please
535 members from the house and senate, and they needed 600+ lobbyists there smdh
Comment from : CuppaTea _Please

David Williams
Why does she keep going over, under and around the point that John is making? Admit it Lobbyist get heard, the common personnot so muchunless they can invest hundreds or thousands of hours pushing inch by inch or are lucky enough to get a John Stewart in their corner? There's only so much John Stewart to go around
Comment from : David Williams

MegaAstroFan18
Mostly she's saying they should acknowledge the successes they've had despite what it took, and going further will take more hard work She's Democrat, so she's reasonable, mostly it was two people who agree on the fundamental point talking about different parts of it
Comment from : MegaAstroFan18

lawrence gomar
We make incremental changes, corporations make world chattering changes
Comment from : lawrence gomar

Psibound

Christopher Nolen
This congresswoman is part of the problem she’s been in Congress since 1991 she’s 80 years old and should have retired many years ago But she still loves having all that political power and let’s take a look at what she’s accomplished as a congresswoman as a sponsor of any major legislation Oh, just like Bernie Sanders she’s a big goose egg nothing she’s accomplished nothing but still the idiots at her home state keep electing her Term limits are the only way to get some fresh ideas and maybe some collective bargaining between both parties because let’s face it all these elderly folks running The country is not good for the country starting with the president who doesn’t even remember what he had for breakfast…
Comment from : Christopher Nolen

Dan O
I lost her right away with that asinine hair color
Comment from : Dan O

Jason Smith
@0:47 Exactly why the federal government shouldn't be handling things the states should handle The federal government has no business reaching into Healthcare just as they had zero business passing a 5000+ page bill to "find out what's in it"
Comment from : Jason Smith

PizzaZombie
Our government is broken Politicians from both sides have no intention of fixing it
Comment from : PizzaZombie

Bethany
We shouldn’t have to fight for decades for basic things that every other western democracy provides to its residents This is why there should be term limits - she has drunk kook-aid and resigned herself to ‘change is hard because it’s always been hard in this country’
Comment from : Bethany

Pops150
Please keep this demented woman off my monitor
Comment from : Pops150

glen couture
Of course the tax is not going to help the middle class or lower income people, the tax code is favorable for the most wealthiest Americans and corporations

Broccoli Highkicks
This is why America has never been the democracy it thinks it is It is, and always has been, a plutocracy The wealthy and big corporations control and decide everything The entire political system is a racket that is foundationally set up to run on influence peddling
Comment from : Broccoli Highkicks

Anita Schvitz
I’ve already given up that anything good will ever come from our government
Comment from : Anita Schvitz

bankcounsel
Interviewing Rosa DeLauro in hopes of rendering a convincing response to health care or skin care would be the equivalent of asking the Loch Ness monster to speak with authority about crypto currencies Next!
Comment from : bankcounsel

E Tudda
Not only that theses representatives prefer the money first
Comment from : E Tudda

jwbjpb1
The sad reality is our government (both parties) have little to no desire to fix anything UNLESS it involves helping the top 1 get richer
Comment from : jwbjpb1

R W
We as Taxpayers employ politicians to administer and debate, national policy for us But, when an 'industry', (for want of a better word), becomes so dysfunctional with corruption mismanagement, misinformation and lies, that others from outside have to intervene in the abuse, It's time to start firing people, go back to basics and fix the foundations excuse the mixed metaphors
Comment from : R W

WildHog 72
Highlight correction with a BIG spot light and they call it the system, "we need to work in the system" The problem with the system is people with money goes to the front of the queue and they will stay there because they can The voice of the people, lol what people They only time the see the people is when the look down to see how many they just stepped on
Comment from : WildHog 72

KA NS
Hey Stewart why don’t you talk to David Schweikert
Comment from : KA NS

Jay Trunzo
It took ten years to get veterans (veterans!) benefits they bclearly/b deserved, and that's progress? That's making strides? How? Because over those ten years, lobbyists (600 of 'em at one session) show up with checkbooks in hand?brbrMoney is the problem Our elected representatives best respond to those with the fattest wallets In other words, bnot/b their constituents This isn't progress This is corruption
Comment from : Jay Trunzo

TheCreepypro
man this is such a good interview

Beliz Bayulgen
So many commenters here seem to have mistaken Congresswoman DeLauro for some pandering moderate career politician I’m her constituent, and I can tell you she is anything but that She has spent her life as a progressive, advocating for working families and is literally the architect of the child tax credit program She correctly recognizes that our distrust of government and institutions can lead to apathy and cynicism Jon’s advocacy certainly isn’t the best example, given his celebrity status, but we can and should try to build power in our communities to impact institutions Yes, we need broad and structural change But DeLauro isn’t going to hog the mic and deliver a soliloquy about everything that’s wrong in our political system like you want her to, she’s going to get something done And that’s what makes her such a force To those of you who are dissing her without knowing about her lifelong advocacy, you’d be doing yourself a favor by reading up on her careerbrbrIt’s easy to diss incremental change, I do it too But imperfect legislation can still change the lives of millions Personally, I have trouble dismissing the ACA through all its faults, because the expansion of Medicaid is the reason I wasn’t crushed by medical debt after I suffered a car crash And if advocates like DeLauro had sacrificed the good for the perfect, millions like me wouldn’t have had that accessbrbrA better future is worth fighting for And that fight happens both in and out of the halls of Congress
Comment from : Beliz Bayulgen

Dee Wald
My bet is, this congresswoman has donors from big pharma
Comment from : Dee Wald

IRanOutOfPhrases
That was some serious self-sabotage in trying to claim that Stewart proved how 'well' the system worked on his cause, lol Its weird because you hear her admit very briefly that there are problems, but she wants to blow past that as quickly as possible I feel like it's easier (and more likeable) to just admit, "Yeah, it sucks that people with money can pay people full-time to lobby for their interests over people who don't have money That's a serious flaw that truly needs a solution"
Comment from : IRanOutOfPhrases

Frank Castle
I hear a bunch of stubborn old fxxks who won't lower prices cos they have stocks in certain pharmaceutical companies
Comment from : Frank Castle

Alexander BC
Jesus Christ there should be age limits for elected officials 🫠
Comment from : Alexander BC

Harold Lamble
The government is supposed to represent the people we elect people to look out for our interest Not private businesses
Comment from : Harold Lamble

The Beedo
This might be a bit ageist, but doesn’t it feel like a major part of this issue is the people in power are so old and so out of touch with the majority of the country
Comment from : The Beedo

Richard Ashton
I will never understand why there are not rules to the lobbying process; I get it, Congress needs input on policy, but getting input from only one side is the equivalent of a trial that takes testimony from only one side, be it either the defense or the prosecution; could our jury system function fairly or even rationally, hearing only one side of the issue; NO it could not So how can good policy arise from enactment of legislation that receives input from essentially only one side Could there not be some requirement in the legislative process that requires equal time in lobbying efforts Would it be so radical an idea to propose that for every corporate sponsored lobbyist there be given equal access and time to lobbyist activity by the tax payer interests effected by any legislation?
Comment from : Richard Ashton

The Alternative
30 yearsshe's been in office for 30 fucking years She is 79 This is madness She should retire and go live out her golden years what in the hell is wrong with these people?

Ian Berman
Undue Burden: A company with billions of dollars at stake can afford millions, if not tens of millions of dollars, to PAY someone to achieve their political aims and make sure the elected officials receive campaign donations and investment opportunities with implied quid pro quosbrbrHundreds of millions of voters would benefit from legislation drafted in their interest, and against the corporate interest, but no single voter will receive enough of a benefit to dedicate the time necessary to combat the incentives of the pay to play systembrbrThus the corporate interest almost always wins out, and when it doesn't, it keeps trying after that In the meantime, the corporate-owned mainstream media does ever so little, if anything, to inform the masses of (A) what bills govt is passing against their interests and what alternatives there are, and (B) how this system works overall against their interestsbrbrActivists for the people simply can't overcome this Undue Burden That's how the 01 like it
Comment from : Ian Berman

Sam
FIrst start by making Term limits and age limits in Congress If you allow ppl to make careers out of Politics they will just play Gatekeeper for the Elite and hoard resources for the 1 Something needs to be about lobbying Just because u call it lobbying doesn't change it from being bribery Nancy Pelosi is a perfect example of what happens when you allow a person to spend 40 years in Washington Go from an Intern to being worth $200 Million dollars in return for doing the bidding of the Overlords Something needs to change in the Country We are reaching peak levels of corruption We send the worst society has to offer to Serve the American ppl but instead they serve their own self interest and the ppl that pay them and keep them in Washington
Comment from : Sam

pbdye
All I heard: "Look, JonI'm old enough that I don't really need to worry about this Sure, my children and their children do, but they can fix it when it's their turn It's my turn right now and everything's just great for me" Whenever someone uses the word "paradigm" unironically, just stop listening or engaging them in conversation, because they've got no fucking clue and don't care to have one, either
Comment from : pbdye

B L
You know Stewart is great But he only says hey this is broken Why is it broken? Well people don't vote for their interests They vote based on old ideologies and isn't that America itself? Quit whining John People have the government and system that they vote for
