Honestly it’s the same issue here in India, it’s only the salaried people who pay tax, the businessmen and people who earn cash simply don’t pay anything On top of that, social benefits only go to the ultra rich or poor people The actual tax payers are getting shafted big time

Its not that our government is broken, its working like it intended The US was always set up to protect the rich minority class from the peasants The founding fathers made sure to protect their wealth and power This mentally carries all through the government, including our tax system Sadly nothing will change as long as we cling onto the constitution like it is a sacred document that should never be changed The thing is the elites know they have control and won't give it up (like a certain HBO former funny man)

The biggest economic burden on the American people BY FAR is the housing tax breaks that have allowed Rich people (corporations) to buy multiple single homes, driving up the prices FAR beyond what inflation would have caused If we stopped those tax breaks, making house flippers pay full tax on their cap gains (right now you get a $250k deduction for any house cap gain when you sell every 2 yearsie You buy a home for 130k and you flip it for 330k and you claim it's your primary home and every 2 years you pay no gain on that house profit of 200k)

Capitalism made our system the way it is on purpose, so that HMO executives and investors are making maximized profits And unless you can find a way to BRIBE more politicians than Wallstreet and HMO already do, any discussion of this nature is pissing into the wind, because it's never going to change unless we get money out of politics
