I am retired now, the Tracen Cape May has changed some, but looks so very much the same! I joined in 1982 There were 200 men and 4 women at that time! Best years of my life! I remember hearing a story about petty officer midget, he got super pissed at a recruit for not saying his name right, it was intact pronounced the same way as a small person midgetbrbrAlso at 9:23 pretty sure that's petty officer Pacheco, mainly just remember how short she was and the tattoo, very easy to not look at her

i think i remember reading that all the branches semi-recently received drill instructor cross-training from Marine Corps drill instructors (maybe 2013 or so?) brbri showed this video to a friend of mine who went through USCG boot camp back in 1997, and she said it was NOTHING like this, ever brbrher husband went through Navy boot camp in 1995, and he said it was a total breeze, barely anyone raised their voices the entire time, said it was actually pretty fun brbri guess they've tightened up in recent years

I went to Boot Camp at Alameda in 1960 Lots of yelling and screaming, even some pushing and shoving, esp if you got out step on the grinder I hated hand washing our dungarees in the big sinks behind the barracks My favorite part was going out in the row boats At first, we didn't know what we were doing and went around in circles After a lot of yelling and screaming we finally got our act together and got going We would have four boats in the water at a time and race around the island Civilians on the shore would cheer us on FUN

Not much was allowed to be visible while in ANY uniform or variation You ladies & gentlemen think being accepted into THIS Coast Guard and THIS "boot camp" Is tough (it is) try the USCG Direct Petty Officer program Harder to get accepted into & pass than OCS Our CC's were Senior & Master Chiefs SEMPER PARATUS !

I remember being in Oscar 135 in 1991 Cape May in February was no joke but it is one of the most fulfilling in my life I served in SCD in basic and was assigned to a WHEC378 (USCGC Chase) and so proud to be part of all of it

Man this brings back memories It's changed a lot since I went thru but that scene in the head had me LMAO It gets so hot and humid, especially once the walls and ceiling start to sweat The off base runs were the best tho That was my first time feeling proud of myself and my country and the Coast Guard Big thanks to all the civilians that supported us on those runs It was very reassuring to me as to why I chose to volunteer and dedicate myself to serving our people

They are not even a branch of the Military They are Homeland Security And prior to that they where part of the Treasury department During A time of War they are a branch of the Navy Unlike the Military, When the Government closes down because their budget did not get past the Coast Guard is sent home Why ? Went through in February-March 2021 in Charlie 200 and going into the first three weeks I considered myself to be completely insane for signing up for it It’s an experience that ends up being a seemingly never ending roller coaster ride for sure I went through when COVID-19 restrictions and concerns were at or close to their all time high so my experience was significantly different than most people before and after me It’s hard for me to say if that made things easier or harder Probably a little bit of both My company commanders were interesting to sum it all up It may not seem like it but they really do want to bring the best out of you I do hope to see them again in the fleet somewhere so I can properly tell them thank you Coast Guard was the best decision I ever made

i had Petty Officer Midget for one of his first companies he was ruthless, but also my favorite always so sharp in everything he did, and when it was all over and we could talk to them like regular coasties after graduation, i could really tell he cared about us i hope if he ever leaves TRACEN that i run into him in the fleet somewhere
