Ummm, you’re supposed to slowly engage the blades This even happens with the Kohler engine also Comment from : Los Man |
And get u a little small piece of 4x4 or some kind of little block u could use when changing the height If u put it in the middle u could change both sides Just and idea Take a small block of 4x4 and wrap a little piece of rubber or carpet to keep from sliding off and possibly scratching the mower Just a thought mate lawn care ninja Comment from : TarHeel Aerials |
As far as the front tires adjustment I think I’d buy me a thick ,heavy duty oversized gloves to use when changing the height or keep a box of thick good grade nitrile gloves to use especially if there’s dog feces in the equation It might cost a little bit but it might be good for your health not getting dog feces on your hands and face I think a box of heavy duty thick nitrile gloves has at least 50 pair or some 100 of gloves in each container That should last about all season or longer Comment from : TarHeel Aerials |

Don't ever take the air filter off, that's not a good idea I own two Toro turfmasters with the fj180v KAI and I have no issues at all with starting Fuel on, choke on and a few pulls, no problems at all Usually first pull if warm, maybe two if cold That's normal Read the engine manual thoroughly 👌 Comment from : Peter Stone |
I have a Toro Timemaster but want commercial grade 30"tossing between Toro Turfmaster and Exmark which would you choose having to pick one? Comment from : Rick G |
How bad does this deck clog in wet grass? Comment from : Aaron and Vicky |
I have this same mower but with the bigger Kohler engine and i rarely have to pull the hand start more than once and it runs super smooth always, never misses a beat, the only problem I ever had was when I bought it new in 2020 it would surge for fuel once it got warm , after maybe 45 minutes Turned out the fuel filter was to small, a larger filter totally fixed it Comment from : bob holzer |
I found something out too that you can side discharge and bag at the same time Comment from : Matt Brigner |
I use the parking brake to pivot on steep hills that I'm doing turns on Comment from : Matt Brigner |
I've never shut off the fuel and I've never had a dealer tell me that But I will tell you that your first pull usually starts to pump of gasoline to the motor and your second pull is usually what starts to motor every time At least that's what I've experienced since I've owned mine the last 3 months My Toro Time Master was the same way Comment from : Matt Brigner |
I've got one and it's like walking a honey badger that's ergonomically incorrect😉 Comment from : Matt Brigner |
To heavyThe rubber wheels tear up turf Comment from : Boyce Butler |
ENGAGE THE BLADES SLOWLY!! it is also much easier on the belts and spindles !! Comment from : Paul |
Looks like you got the older model, newer ones have a single lever with a linkage bar, to raise the front wheels simultaneously For the side discharge, we tie some strap on the metal release, for easier lifting Common problems I've had with these mowers, is plastic pulley failure, replace with metal one Cable's constantly stretching and breaking Belt's breaking, and not the easiest to replace Otherwise it's pretty reliable Comment from : Bradlee Parker |
Just a thought would it be easier to start if you shut off the gas shut off and let it stall outnice looking mower thinking about buying a 30 inch for personal use Comment from : john mcalister jr |
I like the mower, but it is a little pricey! Comment from : jedediahbc |
This is just one of those mowers, that you love or hate it I personally hate it Comment from : Crazy adventures and reviews |
I’m really late to this video but wait til you have to replace sprockets, sprocket belt, V-belts , and pulleys I work on them for a living and they’re expensive to maintain!! Comment from : Mateo fish handler |
I loved the exmark 30s, I had 4 different ones I would say for someone just starting out, they’re the mower to get For me personally the increased weight of them is a concern moving forward so I have sold all mine now and gone back to using 21s for my finish / small backyard mower Comment from : Big Red Services, LLC |
Nothing beats a commercial lawnboy Love them Comment from : Bart Algozzini |
we don't have these in australia they look to big and clubsy to me Comment from : Marty232 |
I hated that mower with a raging passion, the moment it was paid off I sold it and used the money as a down payment on a 32 wright Stander B I absolutely love it, can go everywhere my Exmark could go, and way faster Comment from : Pepsi Love |
I've never had that much of a problem starting mine I own 2 of them and I never shut the gas valve off Comment from : Aaron Brewer |
You need to pull the bale slowly, any mower will stall if you engage blades that fast Comment from : John Castagna |
Wow, it killed your engine when you engaged the blade brI’m about to get that Tracer 60 inch…real soon before the year ends! Comment from : Kym Tube |
Wow! Great review Sir! Really informative I purchased one of those as well It was my dream mower…I thought! brToo it straight to my customers yard and the damn thing wouldn’t pull Took it back within a hour and they adjusted it Went back to the yard and it still wouldn’t work going up a hill Blew my mind I love Xmark but that one, is not what I expected from what I have grown accustomed to My Navigator and Tracer is THE BEST mower ever I returned it! Comment from : Kym Tube |
I love how everyone wants a light dependable commercial grade mower All commercial mowers have flaws Comment from : Darron Allen |
I bet if you read the instruction manual it tells you to engage the blades slowlybrOn every mower including riding mowers It will tell you the same thing,, engage the blades slowly this way you're built to last longer and you don't beat up the enginebrIt's a lot of weight you're trying to get up to speed ((RPMs)) in them blades so fast Comment from : Larry Carr |
Did you try the Xmark 30" with the new Kohler engines My issue was the difference in the weight Its a beast Comment from : Jim Wiethop |
Be gentle on the blade U can’t go full force Gently That’s why the mower go off U did it right the second timeu have to give it time to catch Comment from : Mr X |
Are the front wheels plastic, does it even have bearings Wow for the price they should be metal, and have good greaseable bearings Comment from : Knighthawks Mowers |
Takin' the front wheels off to adjust height sucks I like Exmark, but I won't be doing that There's the Scag, and the Torobrto choose from Obviously, you don't dump the clutch to engage a manual trans in your car Or your lawn mower, that isn't a fail Comment from : Cerberus |
Let me save you guys some heatachedon't buy the exmark 30 It's heavy and hard to turn Buy the ferris fw15 Comment from : Jeffrey White |
I don't like the fact it's hard to turn I noticed that the 1st day I would not have bought this mower Comment from : Steven McHenry |
I have the same mower, love it You obviously are a novice Comment from : Todd Farris |
Yeah screw that thing it would of went back to the place I bought it from the first day way to much time consuming Comment from : Freshly Cut Lawn Service |
For the front wheel adjustments, put your foot under that front bar that is the right in front of the deck and use your foot to lift up the front end of the mower at the same time that you are pulling up the release lever with your hand Makes it a lot easier Comment from : jasonjon88 |
My biggest gripe about this mower is that it is very heavy It should have the caster wheels on it for going around curves like landscaping If you are just going back and forth it's great! Comment from : Steve Kinney |
With that blade engagement default, I have one as well, a buddy of mine recommended this mower to me, I ran into this issue but my buddys mower didn’t so I took it apart, sometimes the blade engagement cord the engages the belts is way too tight, it’s a factory issue Go ahead and loosen that blade engagement cord, what that’s doing is it’s taking that strong tension off of that belt in order to give it a smooth blade engagement, it’s better for your engine because it won’t kill the rpm level nearly as much as it does in this video and it will prevent your mower from shutting off at all times, also do this because it will save you the time and anger with having to change your belts practically every 3 weeks Comment from : Keegen Crowe |
agreed about the front wheel How hard would it have been for engineers to leave a bit more width and area for a better grip with some molded plastic covering on those front wheel adjusters Really exmark?? Great concept but they still have issues Ive run 2 exmark 30's since they came out Ive been through my share of transmissions, and pullies The thing I hate the most though is the blade engagement belts are stretching and the blades dont engage properly> its so bad now that I only get about 3 weeks out of a belt before they start slipping I think im going to try drilling another hole for the idler pulley to mount a bit closer and cause the belt to grab a bit more and see if that fixes the isssue Comment from : rbljackson |
That's operator error when it died while engaging the blades Just like a vehicle, you have to engage it slowly and yes, the engine rpms will drop with the extra load You can't knock the mower when it's simply just you not engaging it correctly Comment from : Cody Ulrich |
I run 3 walk behinds a toro 54 hdx a xmrk 36 s series and a craftsman 21 I was thinking of getting a 30 and that way I can have the same equipment in my trailer all the time, just the 54 and the 30 I'll probably just stick to what I have Comment from : Jeremy G |
Hey my friend I've been a mechanic for over 40 years and I can tell you there's something wrong with that engine my Toro 400 dollar mower starts on the first on the first pull I'm also a landscaper take that back to the dealer and don't take any dealer BS Comment from : Harry Erhart |
By looking over your shoulder, it’s obvious that you take care of your stuff That being said, I dont believe your problem is you I have never experienced the issues that you are having Mine has vapor locked perhaps 3 or 4 times, usually very hot and humid days where I stop for a drink I absolutely love mine and it is all I use for my 1 acre 2, sometimes 3 times a week Other than a belt from the idler pulley freezing up, 0 issues with mine Great review tho👍🏻 Comment from : Livin Nash |
Looks like I'm not buying an exmark 30X Comment from : the unkown mr |
Wait until the brake assembly bends or the brake rivets break and grind the brake pulley and you start burning belts Spindles need to greased also Dry out in a year Motor vibrates loose and warps the deck Kohler Command parts hard to find and expensive A oil filter is $20 Comment from : Greenwork Pro LLC Lawncare & Landscaping |
Ok yea that deck adjustment isn’t perfect but we’re not exactly dealing with a lot of weight here I have an early 2000’s gravely walk behind (barn find basically) with a 52” steel deck… I gotta lift THAT heavy SOB with one hand while I fish a tight pin out and back in a new hole with the other Aaaaand I gotta do it 4 times, once for each corner of the deck Comment from : PhillipHols |
Every small engine product ever will tell you somewhere in the manual to shut the fuel off when you transport it Every atv, motorcycle, etc with a petcock has that notice How would it flood just sitting out in the wind? Comment from : PhillipHols |
Just like you don't mash your gas pedal when pulling off in a vehicle, it's good practice for mowers, not to yank up the throttle to full, or the blade engage on machines like this These engines like smooth and gradual Comment from : A Man called Kodiak WILD |
Hey if you don’t mind reviewing the scag 30 inch mower, I’d love to see your thoughts about it! Comment from : A aron |
Lift the front up to adjust the front wheels with the claw of a hammerfingers are fine Comment from : Greg Northway |
First of all, I kind of like the front wheel adjustment that wouldn't bother me at allBut you know what bothers me is you don't say anything about it the blades being a timed blade system like those crappy Toro time master and turf masterThose are timed blade systems if the belt hops a tooth or go over a part of a stump your going to have blade to blade contact that's why those mowers are no good at least not for meThe scag 30 inch mower doesn't have a timed blade system Iam looking into that mower for myself and you can get it with front caster wheels but it's very expensive I think I also, have 2 Foley Quad cuts that was made in 1961 from Foley MFG Co I have a 6 hp Briggs motor on it I xan go through 2 ft of grass without bogging down and it has 4 8 inch blades with a cast aluminum deck that's the best mower in my opinion in my lifetime I just have to take it to a machine shop and have them install new water pump bearings Comment from : Robert Howard |
Looks like a real nice mower! good review, I subbed! Comment from : Upscale Lawn Care Monroe |
Holly shit, I've just realized how small and insignificant my lawncare business is when I heard you had to buy a 2200$ mower cause your other mower is being repaired And the fact you've said "It's not such a big deal to pay those 2200$"brMan, I would plan 2000$ investment for a year and after doing it I would think I'm the big dog brNeedless to say that I don't own any zero turn, nor the commercial 30" mowers I make do with two 21" Hondas, 2 Husky trimmers and 2 battery hedge trimmers from Makita Sure, this is my side hustle, but it still amazes me that there's so much money in the business Comment from : Mark Brisec |
I dont think I will buy another one I wish exmark would put swivel front wheels on it Comment from : Coastal Turf |
Great video Good info After I saw this video I think I'll think about it before buying something like that thank you for sharing Comment from : Active Green Lawn Care |
Thank you Comment from : Donald Ficker |
The engine dropping rpm when engaging the blades is to add longevity to both engine and clutch It does it with the 21 inch commercial toro/exmark too Always warm an engine up before engaging blades too Comment from : JPG Mowing |
The Toro version is much more user friendly! Comment from : Mark Schmaus |
New Subscriber here! Comment from : Mark Schmaus |

Ferris FW15 for the win! Comment from : Nick Allison |
Doesnt the x series have the kohler engine? Comment from : Joe Nguyen |
I have recently bought 3 timemaster mowers, likely not as durable as your mower but very user friendly Comment from : rawe63 |
$2400 and thats the best front wheel height adjustment option they have? EXMARK WTF?! you IDIOTS Comment from : Ricky Jennings |
Thank you so much for this review! I have been debating between Exmark 30 or scag 30 Definitely going Scag! Comment from : Chad Sponseller |
good review, appreciate it you are absolutely right about the lack of reviews on the little commercial mowers Comment from : Justin Murray |
My lawn mower doesn't have a parking brake like yours also don't turn off the gas just leave it on I don't do that that's why I'm thinking you having that issue trying to turn it on Comment from : everardo martinez |
HAVE MINE OVER 15 YRS GOOD MOWER Comment from : Mark Cooper |
price point had to go with honda Comment from : Shane Pipkin |
I have the Exmark 30" X series with the Kohler engine I have a small lawn business averaging about 30 steady clients I used this as my main mower I dont think I would buy this mower again This was my first exmark Please tell me other commercial exmark mowers are much better? Not the best first impression for their brand in my opinion I want to take that next step up, but not sure about emark now Great Video Thanks! Comment from : Erics Lawn and Landscape |
Great review I have a commercial 30 x series but it has the Koehler engine on it I have never had issues with starting my mower In fact, I don’t even use the choke to start it even if it has been sitting for a few days It’s one of the best engines I have had on a mower When I engage the blades the first time while it’s cold it with lose a little power but it has never stalled on me After it’s warm the blades engage with no loss in engine power I actually owned an older commercial 30 S series mower with the Kawasaki engine The one I had wasn’t bad but the power difference was pretty noticeable The Kawasaki is pretty under powered on a mower that big especially if you mulch like I usually do What I don’t understand about exmark is that they put the Koehler 200 cc engine instead of the 224 cc option The difference in power is pretty substantial and the engine is the same weight and everything In my opinion, I like this mower with the Koehler instead of the Kawasaki engine I agree that the height adjustment is annoying but I don’t use the mower everyday I believe that people who use this mower as a secondary or even as their third mower will like it more than someone who uses this mower as their main mower Comment from : Jadon Noble |
