i think my favorite part is the soft "f*ck you" ukulele playing in the background lol Comment from : Bitholeous |
How did you make the paint more liquidy? Did you add a medium or just water? Thank you! Comment from : Laura Malone Hunt |
I like this lesson Will be my next project Comment from : Philo Bailey |
is that gnarls barkley on the ukulele? Comment from : Epictetus Jr |
Now is there a reason why you chose the yellow-orange underpainting versus a pink or reddish hue? Both are warm (which I'm assuming is the contrast you were looking for with this predominantly cooler landscape) Just curious Comment from : Jeffrey Phillips |
Thank you Will for the awesome videos, starting to paint after a long time after art school Loving the music as well - I think I heard Cilo Greene's "forget you" in there Comment from : Matobako Sempe |
👍 Comment from : Geetha |
Thank you for your tutorial It will be helpful to know the colors you use to obtain certain tones Thanks! Comment from : S Glyer |
No hard borders Got it Comment from : Callahad |
Thank you for that off camera scene, it might be trivial, but I had no idea that wiping paint off with kitchen towel is enough I'd always wash it off with a jar of water Comment from : Sarah |
Total beginner here I'm loving the tutorials so far I'm alternating your tutorials with finding my own references to paint from I'm curious though How do you choose which background canvas color to start with? Is it arbitrary or is there some logic behind your background choice? Comment from : Jon Sauder |
Can't help but notice the ukulele covers of pop songs Comment from : Kelly Kirsch |

These are fantastic! Thank you so very much for sharing I've just started painting I've never considered myself very artistic, but surprising my 1st painting came out pretty well, especially since I had no idea what I was doing :) Now I'm searching techniques, etc Your videos are just what I was looking for and your personality makes them fun and easy to watch Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Comment from : Tami Hildebrandt Soul |
Forget you! I'm sorry, I can't afford a Ferrari Comment from : Ethan Fletcher |
It wouldn't make more sense to me, but every artist works differently
A common mistake is to view your painting in separate subject matter rather than working it up as a whole
If you go to my blog you can see more video tutorials based on this and the 7 painting principles I work to
Cheers,

No, just water
Will Comment from : willkempartschool |
Yes, and this keeps them wet on the palette but doesn't alter their workability time on the canvas In this vid, you able to continue working your clouds for longer than I could I just wondered if this is what the "open" ness of Golden paints means, or if you have some tip for keeping acrylics workable Thanks Comment from : muskndusk |
That wouldn't make much of a difference to the drying time, have you tried a stay-wet palette?
Will Comment from : willkempartschool |
I noticed that your paints seem to stay wet on the canvas for longer than mine, yet you don't appear to be mixing them with a retarder I use Daler Rowney System 3 acrylics, and I think you're using Golden Could this be a quality of the paint manufacturer and type? Comment from : muskndusk |
like if you heard the background music wereForget you by Celo Green and Perfect by Pink ^_^ Comment from : Gerome Cruz |
Hi Carol, its due mainly to the quality of the paints being used
Artist quality paint can make a huge difference in the ease of painting with acrylics
There is a comparison article between student grade and artist quality paints on my site
Cheers,

Hello Will! What brush brand do you recommend best? I'm looking for goodbrushes, to get started Comment from : JJ Cruz |
Hi Marissa you can get good quality brushes from pretty much any art supple store or online, just look for 'artist quality' brushes an acrylic or oil brush would work for this painting
Thanks,
Will Comment from : willkempartschool |
this is usually do to a shiny surface on the canvas or a bristle that is too stiff, try with a softer bristle brush to start with
Will Comment from : willkempartschool |
Hi, my name is marissa, I was just wondering what kind of paint brushes would I need for this painting and other paintings? Also where can I get good quality brushes? I'm a beginner so I'm not really sure how to go about finding brushes and paints etc Comment from : Marissa Salazar |

when i try to paint a large area, my brush strokes take off the paints on the canvas how can i prevent this? Comment from : theeachuisge |
Hi Sarah,
Yes you can use acrylics on paper, just make sure it's quite a thick paper and tape it down onto a board
Also don't use excessive amounts of water as the paper will buckle
Good luck with the landscape painting,
Will Comment from : willkempartschool |

Hi Will,
I'm 15 and decided to try acrylics over the summer I picked up some paints, brushes and a canvas and stumbled to your website looking for some guidance I'm very pleased to have! You're videos explain things very well
Anyway, my question is that I don't have a lot of money for canvas, so can you use acrylics on paper? If so, anything to watch for? Looking forward to hearing your response and starting this painting
Cheers, Sarah Comment from : Sarah Falvey |

Get your canvas's unpacked and get experimenting!
This landscape is super easy to follow and you can download the image from my website if your looking for something to get started with, you could always use this as a starting point and go abstract from there
Good luck
