Here is some logicI make maybe $150K Over pay federal$34K as a savings and no surprises OH BUT YOU'RE GIVING THE GOVERNMENT FREE MONEY!! If you could file "exempt" and could put $16K (half of $34K) in a bank savings account yielding 042, you would earn a whopping $67 Nobody files "exempt", so this guys logic is stupid Breaking even is ok but I use it as a surprise gift for me and my wife and spend it on whatever

To be perfectly honest, the majority of people that are so excited about tax refunds 1 Think that it’s free money and 2 Aren’t responsible or financially savvy enough to grow that money in any significant way Using the government as zero yield savings account is better than blowing their money every month like they would’ve done anywaybrbrIt’s great advice, but an easy way for less responsible people to pay end up owing the IRS back taxes + interest and fees If u can’t follow a strict budget for a calendar year, this advice is not for you
