I use drying racks especially in winter when we got wood stove going as adds humidity to air which makes house feel warmer Also heat dries out your wood furniture so drying racks add moisture to air

Great advice! My tip is to hardwire into my neighbors electric and gas meter and let them pay to keep us warm and toasty 🥰🥰

I use my dishwasher for a place to store my pyrex, my heat sets at 68 in the winter and 74 in summer, we keep lap blankets on every seat I can't stand leaving a room with the lights on

Most of my electricity usage is for cooling I am in McAllen, Texas, where we have more than 60 days of over 100 degrees I keep my A/C at 79F for the summer, and 60F for the winterbrWhen I bought this house last May, the A/C ran non-stop for the summer I had to take some emergency measures I taped aluminum foils on windows from the inside That cooled down the house a great deal, but sunlight still hit the window glass from the outside and heat up the glass and window panes So, this year I taped aluminum foils on windows from the outside That reflected heat away before it hit the glass, and my A/C no longer ran non-stop In fact, I see a great reduction in energy bills So, if you don't mind eyesore, tape aluminum foils on window glass is the way to go

I live in the northeast in a neatly 80-year-old home I’ve replaced windows (game changer!) and added insulation and use a good thermostat Each change has impacted my energy consumption This fall I’ll be updating two storm doors and replacing a door to the garage with a fire-safe insulating door Increasing costs aside, I’m confident I’ll feel the difference once they’re changed out Im retired (but also work at home [sitting at a desk]) and need to be comfortable, so I’m always looking for ways to do that without overheating the house This year I’m being gifted a battery vest I will also continue to use layers (long underwear that fits comfortably under my clothes), a vest always, wool (socks and sweaters), and scarves that add style and keep neck stiffness at bay It’s too easy, yet my friends who grew up here can’t be talked out of their cotton sweat clothes or keeping all their rooms at the same temps Finally, I get outside with my dog unless it’s sleeting Moving around is key!

Frig and freezerit is more economical to operate if they are full Fill in empty space with containers of waterbrWhen I built my house, I had extra HVAC ceiling vents placed above ceiling fans They do not usually place vents above ceiling fans, but wowit disperses the air like crazy!

2:35 I'm going to have to debate this one, I've had several energy experts Tell me that a dishwasher will actually save you money, and newer dishwashers only use about 35 to $40 a year in electricity depending on your washing needs The other plus is the average American uses up to 27 gallons of water to wash dishes by hand (Most people nowadays just let the water run and in 5 minutes that's 15 gallons + the electricity from the water heater) where a new dishwasher only uses about three to four gallons and they have built in heaters so You're not using hot water from your water heater

I am a retired teacher and full-time sheep farmer for 22 years We live on the Canadian Shield in a forrest With an unending supply of wood wood stoves and furnaces have always been our preferred heat source in the winter We have a room in the downstairs with an Amish cookstove (Pioneer Maid) that sends heat up the stairway to the main living areas of the house Besides sheep, milk goats, and turkeys we also breed Labrador retrievers every other year This room becomes a nursery and is automated for electrical environment controls (heat, light, and the Bose "soft music" sound system Electrical demands are met by augmented off-grid energy system (solar, diesel, and a newer ( industrial) lithium battery pack attached to our large (older) lead-acid batteries The alternate entry system powers our residence, barn, large drive shed, and a rental cottage 100 yards away and situated on a pristine lake All of our meat products are raised on organic feed And when product is in the walk-in freezer too long, I freeze dry it with the Harvest Right freezer dryerbrbrNow I am not claiming "bargain' rights" by this scenario, but will say that to put this all in place took approximately 25 years to implement As a Christ-confessor, I blame my preparations on God's guiding hand going back into my early youth As a mega-city dweller most of my life, I am known as "the remnant peasant" in my family--first one in three generations to forsake the city of the farm life And, I believe, God has plans for this farm beyond just earning a living It is a place of protections for the coming persecution of Christians in North AmericabrbrThe best advice I would give someone just awakening to the realities around us is: start where you are at; do something to prepare and do it daily! I commend you on THE MAC'S for your attention to little details that are necessary to protect your family and be an example to the others who want to learn "stewardship" of the things in God's CreationbrbrBless you and yours for your highly successful efforts to alter the social media propagandabrbr"Remnant Peasant"

I’ve been using retractable cloths lines for outdoors the last 10 years Just fluff them in the dryer for 5-10 minutes Never been a fan of the clothes line look and I love the retractable ones because you don’t notice them at all I also reuse the gel packs that come with foods or medicine Just line the bottom of a chest freezer and stack the food on top My freezers are in the garage and we live in Texas If we loose power the gel packs will hold the cold We also reuse Gatorade bottles We buy 5 gallon water bottles and make our own bottled water Gatorade bottles are dishwasher safe, I have some that are three years old Wash the caps by hand As a result we have bottled water stored everywhere Family and friends collect them for us Ultimate recycling project We also keep all glass bottles and jars Use them to store spices, beans, rice, any thing dry Wine bottles for homemade wine or vinegars If they don’t have screw on lids order corks from Amazon The k-cups make great seed starter containers Been wanting to share some of this for a while and today seemed like a good day God bless you all

I use my dishwasher every day, but only to dry the dishes in after I hand wash them It keeps a drying rack off the counter
Comment from : Terri Hansen

Terri Hansen
also look at your bill for the monthly charge just to have the service This is what you pay to have electricity, even though you may not actually use any electricity It could be $550 a month, or it could be $30 a month, I have experienced both
Comment from : Terri Hansen

Itsjust Toolate
Electric companies are an absolute scam, when a person gets behind and can't pay it the company will keep sending bills and letting it pile up instead of sending a disconnect notice so that the person can get help through an agency Money money MONEY

I now have mold in my bedroom, following *tip's*Make sure you have good air flow round your window's, it's going to cost a lot more to fix mold than putting the heating on, if you live in a constant high humidity areaMeh lesson learnedbrRechargable/battery light'sbrHot water bottlesbrMy laptop provides light in my room, I can put the brightness up if neededbrHave a sink bath, wash cloth & soapNot everyone needs a shower dailybrNot everyone needs to wash their hair dailyIt can be air dried if you have timebrWhen the clothes have washed, re-spin cut's down on drying timebrA smart dryer calculates drying timebrA thermos for hot drinks, you can get upto 3L/5L ones called airpot'sbrHang larger item's like blanket's, over door's or the shower rail/banister to dry if your home is warm/dry enoughbrAir fryer's are like ovens & grills, way cheaper than putting the oven onbrEveryone has different circumstances/health issues, so remember some tip's may suit you & some could cause a health hazzardIf you need the heat on, put it on

I use oil lamps with mirrors for lighting! Oil lamps provide a great atmosphere and produce a lot of heat! I also use a catalytic wood stove! I have not bought any wood! I contact property owners that have standing dead trees and harvest them! They are mostly already seasoned enough to burn properly!

I didn't read every post, but here goes "bubble wrap for the windows" One 12 in x 150 ft roll for under $2000 Cut pieces to fit each window and mark to reuse each year Use a small spray bottle to put a slight mist on the glass and press on to the glass It normally stays up all season, insulates from the cold, reusable, allows light in, makes it hard for those outside to see in We've used the same pieces for three years now and with the use of many of the suggestions listed in the comments, have noticed a difference in our electric bill Stay warm
Comment from : GOLDBUG NWGPA

We shower only every other day and only a 7 min shower including shaving time is allowed per person On the non-shower days we take a sink bath to wash up and keep fresh Unless of course we are working outside and got dirty or sweaty
Comment from : NNeubs Fl

Beth Overton
One tip to add when its cold keep feet covered with warm socks! Also extra layers on the core of your body makes a huge difference For example, wear an insulated vest and you may not need something long sleeved which makes you feel less restricted
Comment from : Beth Overton

Beth Overton
I'm old enough that I grew up without a dishwasher, a/c, or clothes dryer I honestly don't remember being too hot in the summer or too cold in the winter I know I was young but I also believe our bodies acclimate better without extra climate control inside our homes This was proven true to me when as young adults with 3 kids, we lived over a year in Papua New Guinea, only 2 degrees off the equator with no a/c We acclimated and did not miss the a/c at all We also hand washed dishes and hung our clothes outside Both excellent chores and good disciplines for children and adults to learn I have to admit though, I'm back to enjoying the comforts of modern living now But this conversation is a good reminder to all of us that it can be done

I have been drying clothes by hand for 42 years now And I have learned to survive wearing clothes longer before washing I also only fully bathe once a week We made it through last summer w/o any AC on Wasn’t fun, but totally doable We supplement our heat with a wood stove so oil and propane do not kick on
Comment from : Nancy Ockrin

Renita Meares
We have solar but it connects to a smart meter belonging to our electric company We could not afford a battery system That being said, this time of the year we generally owe $0 HOWEVER, our bill in January was $169! Why? All of my friends here in NC were complaining about their bills doubling We are all on the Major utility supplier in NC The smaller cooperative companies did not have the same jumps It’s not like we have a choice in companies It’s about what coverage area you are in That should not be the case We should have a choice and not be a captive customer
Comment from : Renita Meares

I don't think I could abide a cold shower in winter but I'm agreeable to tepid to warm and 3 to 5 minutes total And I take a shower every other day and just wash up on the in-between dayunless I'm doing some really dirty, manual labor And I add oil and/or vaseline to my face and extremities before going outdoors in the cold It sets up a moisture barrier and helps you stay warmer
Comment from : Janet Stonerook

Cyndi Trotter
I've always been thrifty my heat went up because summit took over I only used 55 dollars and I keep my house at 60 40 dollars in taxes and handling charges this last month I'm paying for charges that have nothing to do with my heat bill I don't use a dishwasher and only do one load of laundry a month Thank you for your video But I'm doing everything I did before and my bill increased by 45 dollars

LED lights (blue light) has been shown to impact brain physiology and potentially accelerate aging (as well as cause agitation, depression, stress, etc) We used LED lighting throughout our whole house as well and my neurologist suggested this could be contributing to my migraines Now bringing back those old incandescent lights…

Hang your clothes inside to put moisture in the air which gets dried out by the wood stove or any other heating It is needed for good health otherwise you increase your susceptibility to viral infections or even nose bleeds ALSO, turn the hot water heater DOWN or off, have a blanket on it, and only heat up for morning showers and evening dish washing Keep refrigerators full with gallons of water if necessary
Comment from : mallikadasi

James Christopherson
We have a small home with propane radiant heater and ceiling fan in living room Have two 500g propane tanks we own so we can price shop any propane company and fill once each year at end of summer when price is lowest I used to deliver propane and was amazed how many people are not aware that in some years there are big price fluctuations, especially with a administration hostile to fuelsshort storyprice shop and load up

Comment from : Cindy Johnson

James Christopherson
Youtube the heat pump with the two speed compressor and geo thermal connection instead of air Five feet down the ground is warmer than the air in the winter and in the summer its cooler than the air so the compressor does not have to work so hard Instead of cooling or heating from the ambient air it has a huge loop of tubing filled with anti freeze and water, buried in the ground
Comment from : James Christopherson
