Would it be recommended to purchase same 3 front to towers LCR and turn center tower on its side instead of standing it up? Comment from : @yadiyadi2955 |
How about, instead of placing the center channel to the edge of the cabinet it's on top of, aiming it up? I mean, I have no choice, because first, it's on a very low cabinet (about knee-height, with the speaker on top of that point) and I also don't sit that far away So it needs to be aimed up to get to my ears as best possible and every bit back it can go helps - But I'm just wondering if it might reduce the reflection off of the surface of the cabinet when aimed up, especially when on a stand that puts it slightly higher again - I don't think it would miss the cabinet still, even though this particular cabinet isn't that deep, but yea Comment from : @michaelmonstar4276 |

Fluctuation in pitch😂😂😂 sorry that is not possible Fluctuation in tonal character, yes, but no pitch alteration 3 identical speakers are the best 👌, but hardly possible in most living rooms Something to watch out for is off axis response for your center Most horizontal cc are terrible in that Good tips 👍 Comment from : @schemkesa |

Tip 1 just helped me big time as made me realise why having the same brand and line is important and makes so much sense Brilliant thanks as I was about to buy a klipsch with my mordaunt short mezzo range Comment from : @bingobaz6402 |
Thanks for this not so "common sense " informative video Comment from : @davidstein9129 |

So I just want to say I have several brands of speakers and sets of speakers ,29 connected together with 4 different, multi channel amps ,2 ,two channel amps ,and 2 more 4 channels amps ,on my main receiver I have a multi channel pre Amp out puts so I can connect different amps to boost my surround speaks Now what I did was matched and played around hooking up different sets of speakers to the different amps to find the best matching sound quality I'll just say I've been to the big expensive shows and listened to those $100,000 systems What I've set up and tuned myself sounds 100 times cleaner ,clearer than most every system I've ever heard Took me months to get it to sound like it does but I get pure clean ,highs ,voice ,and acoustics so much that it like the band is right in my room playing 👍 Comment from : @jasonlevesque9303 |
Bullshit you don't need the same brand speakers Comment from : @victorColone |

Hey Michael! Pertaining to point 3 on using the same speakers for LCR, if my speakers are originall vertically standing, is it OK if I place one of them horizontally to act as the centre channel? Thanks Comment from : @rockybukus |
You'd love my creative 21 gaming speakers with cheap as chips 21 as surrounds attached to a chair with the second sub powering a feedback rumbler and the frontdiy mono 100w amp and a bmw 350 dash panel speaker attached to a 3" pvc endcap 52 setup So matched 🤣 Comment from : @luminousfractal420 |

Very useful information, i like your channel Comment from : @Adywerty88 |
These are fantastic tips! I wish I could follow them but unfortunately, I have the room from Hades 18 foot angled ceilings Worst of all a fireplace and mantle right where the TV goes I plan to get a mantle mount, but this also means the center channel speaker Hass to be mounted to the TV itself so that when it’s pulled down the speaker comes with it Looking for a slim line version that can be mounted directly to the TV The polk looks best to me, but the rest of the speakers are Klipsch Hoping Audyssey can compensate Comment from : @johnsimonson588 |
I am running a full set of Definitive Technology mythos speakers and the matching towers are much larger than my center channel I tried increasing the sound on the receiver and it did not blend well I ended up purchasing a much larger Definitive Technology center channel CS 9080 with larger drivers and a built in powered subwoofer The sound from the center is definitely clearer and has more low end presence I am still playing with the sound and it seems to be better so far Comment from : @mocheen4837 |
I got múltiple Center speakers as well múltiple Subwoofers AND AND tweeters diferents brands JVC ,b&w jl Audio Nautilus tweter placed on diferent locations behind the cauch , under the ved in front AND avive the d tren Comment from : @user-oy9ju5pr7k |

To purchase a sealed center channel speaker is to purchase a different brand from your left and right speakers if the brands you happen to buy was not designed to have a center speaker It is because finding sealed speaker while considering the brands and the series of your left and right speaker is very difficult UNLESS, you make a custom one My advice is always go for the custom made or purchase a set Or if you're like me, I make and match things depending on my taste I build them myself too Even a DIY 51 Amplifier Disclaimer, I'm no expert or sound engineer but I do love electronics and music Comment from : @JustRandomPH |
Youthman You say not to put your center channel inside a cabinet My B&W comes with foam plugs for the ports Would that fix the problem of the echo in the cabinet And if I use them in the center channel would I need to use the plugs in the front speakers also to keep the sound of the 3 speakers the same Comment from : @kevindillinger3699 |
Thanks mate! I was looking for tips for my center channel I got it placed under the tv in the cabinet b/c of the fact that my 75" TV is taking up all the space on top 😅 I will angle it upwards Thanks! Comment from : @danielbergman1984 |
My OCD will not let me have different brands I have three different brands at the moment and it’s driving me cray Comment from : @scotttild |

hi I m planning to buy BOWERS & WILKINS 603 51 but like to replace the centre speaker with Bowers & Wilkins HTM71 S2- do you think it would be a problem? Comment from : @bijilppaul |

best center channel setup is none or same speaker as the left and right ones (acoustic transparent screen needed) Comment from : @Desanusor |

Ever since I spent £1,000 on a matching centre channel, never mind the fact I never needed to turn centre channel up a few notches, I can't recall ever having to reach for the remote to press rewind! 😁 Good video Comment from : @totalplonker824 |
Hi, I'm planning to buy a Polk r400 which has dimension of WxHxD 242 x 78 x 138in I have had a cabinet customized to fit this with available space of 33x10x19in It is open in front and back but the back will be about 2 in from the wall Also, I need to angle it about 10 degrees up just to raise it to listening position Will this result to a boomy cabinet? Shall I buy r350 instead? Thanks Comment from : @lorencedominicnarcise9385 |
year later Still learning Ugh! Comment from : @Bigromeo43 |
Wow I was given a Polk xt 35 and was gonna pair with some klipsch 280F But I'm learning not to do that and have to debate now on how to proceed Comment from : @brianberndt7133 |

Just use doorstop wedges, you can even adjust the angle to what you want out of them Comment from : @MichelLinschoten |
Matching is mostly a debunked marketing ploy Comment from : @braticuss |
Excellent Tips, Michael! Using large OLED screens for video, I've had to implement many of your suggestions for the front channel speaker, and man what a difference I've come a long way in my HT journey, and am sure I've still got some distance to go Comment from : @davidolchewsky5365 |

Towels REALLY Comment from : @eddieb1244 |
The only reason your claiming that the center channel speaker should be identical to the L and R speakers is because that's what you have Show the DATA that proves this is the best? Can you please? I'd really like to see the results Comment from : @tech4life884 |
Thanks Michael You've just shamed me into planning for an eventual AT screen upgrade 😁 Comment from : @GunnyPhillips |
Oh so my M&K S150 is a LCR Comment from : @JodyM2 |
Easy tip, if you have center below or above TV, like I do Buy a cheap laser pen You can place it on top of center speaker and it enables you to make sure you got the angle tilted correctly for it to aim straight at your head height Comment from : @rossharper1983 |
Why not increase your center channel speaker by 2db for better dialogue Comment from : @alf3268 |
Hopefully you can help me out Because I’m a little stuck I have a Sony STRDH 790 receiver and I also have some of the Sony tower speakers You can find them on Amazon for like $250 each They are the ones with the Atmos speakers that you can put on the top of them I also have a MICCA center channel speaker from Amazon It was like $59 And some other speakers for my rear’s I have the Atmos speakers set up next to the TV and about an inch off the ceiling So basically have my front left ,center, right speaker under the TV and the Atmos speakers up on the wall to the left and right of the TV My question is can you help me set up my receiver so that I get more vocals out of the center channel I’m not too familiar with the on screen menu Plus I have my rear speakers on the ceiling and not at either level As I was trying to get a little bit of an atmospheric sound from those as well I just don’t understand all the settings and the menu I have set them to small and ran the calibration setting and everything sounds great but I just want a little bit more sound out of the center and out of those front Atmos speakers Maybe do a video on how to set that receiver up Comment from : @raytonwhite4187 |
You can also open up the back of your entertainment center with the same size of your center channel speaker 🔊 so it can breathe I have a SVS Ultra center channel and it has port holes in the back It worked out great👍🏼 none of the boomy sound in the cabinet 🤷🏻♂️😁 Comment from : @victorvalenzuela6949 |
Do you think it would be ok to match like B&W 600 floor standing with a 700 center? Comment from : @govertical19 |
You ARE NOT going to believe this butI have a pair of club speakers raw unengineered sound, acoustic research, Bose, and just got klipsh I alao found 2 sharps and hooked themup just to olay around tooThey are ALL hooked up to sterio - left and right only It sounds unbelievably great I think the klipsh, acoustic research and Bose will be the best but my clubs and the subs I hooked them u with are beautiful as well I'm going to start going to actual surround this weekend just to see what happens I do think if They were all klipsh I would have an awesome set up but what I have now it's real hard to talk down about the sound, the look - your woman will be a bit put off but the sound is unbelievable at the moment Comment from : @priestof1s |
Best information sir 👍👍👍 Comment from : @omsairam9728 |
My set up is B&W for surround and height/atmos, Polk towers for front, Definitive for center channel and again B+W for subwoofer you may have a home theater, but i got a frankentheater jokes aside, this sounds infinitely better than the Klipsch 514 channel set up bought a cotsco and ended up returning Comment from : @solomonshv |
It's a good thing I kept searching for the same product line of tower speakers as my center & bookshelf speakers It took a while but it will work out better in the end Thanks for the tip Comment from : @BBDigital_Forest |
A nice trick is to use the very same model MTM center speaker also as a left and right speaker, but standing on their end That way you typically get higher sensitivity, more bass extension, higher power handling, better imaging and also perfect (as mentioned in the video) front stage sound conformity Comment from : @viperracing2889 |
Great tips, Comment from : @jasonmawakeesick7995 |
Hi, i just want to get your input, im trying to build my system on a budget I already have 2 main front polk s55 floor standing Im planning to add center speaker, i know you mentioned it should be on the same series, is it ok if i decide to buy polk reserve 300 as my center, or its better to get the S30 to match the series as i have now? Comment from : @legendsofgamers9457 |
To angle your center channel speakers, try a matching pair of door stops (metal or real wood ones), they look much nicer than foam Comment from : @NeoKronos44 |
Hi Youthman, been watching you for some time and you are somewhat of an Klipsch God :) ever heard their in-walls? I currently have the rp-450c center and i 100 love it To save space, im leaning towards the PRO-250RPW-LCR, but will it be a huge downstep from my current 450c? I will also switch from rp280f to PRO-180RPW left and right if that helpsbrThanks :) Comment from : @andreasandersson9437 |
What crossover setting should I useI have a big centre channel Comment from : @wub5540 |
Wow, so helpful! Since i’m building a home theater with the ability to use an acoustic screen, I will now opt for the same center speaker as for my L and R so it’s a true LCR Because the room is only 15’ 9” deep, I will probably opt for in wall speakers since it would increase my projection throw and maximize my screen and room size Any cautions for this set up? Or worth building out an LCR box to host better speakers than in wall even if it reduces my projection throw? Comment from : @trumanfalkner3475 |
love my airmotiv c2+ seem blending well with my svs towers Comment from : @khairulamilin9687 |
A separate power amplifier purely to power the centre channel speaker, bris also a big help in terms of the clarity of the dialogue Makes a big difference Comment from : @philnicol8072 |
Great video and tips! I notice after audussey calibration I have to raise the center channel a couple of dbs I don’t listen at reference level normally around -15 Is that normal? Comment from : @Bryan-hd7nm |
I'm a home theater beginner I just want to ask I'm using a Denon Avr x250bt My front speakers don't produce bass when in dolby pro logic movie mode (the speaker cone doesn't move) But when using stereo mode my front speakers have great bass Is that normal? Comment from : @aliframadhan1202 |
I save money by not going on rubbish patreon Comment from : @aaroningram8782 |
Great advice Spot on One thing people don’t often consider is that an “LCR” doesn’t have to mean a compact satellite speaker A large full-range tower can be an ‘LCR’ if you align the same three speakers across the front Matters of crossover and bass management can be dealt with as the room dictates Comment from : @scottwallace1 |
Brilliant Going to change to LCR Great advice 👍 Comment from : @desiman0786 |
I don't like emphasise on the center channel I grew up in 80s where 2 floor standers was the ultimate in hifi Still is But we have grown our passion to home theater, I myself have a self built home cinema with a Monitor audio Silver series 5 1 I have a MA silver series center on the MA stand I love your set up This is something I aspire toobrI have the Denon 4400 and I don't think it is much better than my onkyo tx-nr818 (which developed problems) I ran audasey but found the centre was way too dominant I had to dial it right down I don't trust my ears to say if I've done this well I'm in a sound rut to be honest So much so I haven't put in any atmos speakers I have never experienced Klipsch Please tell me Youthman, what should I do? Swap out my speakers for Klipsch? Got rid of my monitor audio Silver RX-W12 for the Svs pb-2000 Man that thing is huge, and ugly My W12 was beautifulbrI feel like I'm going backwards Sorry for the long post Advice please Comment from : @booshallmighty |
Great Tips Mate Comment from : @michaeljomon |
Great tips I used different speakers for a year up front, my ears couldn't hear a difference in timbre, but that's my ears And I just use a pair of door stops from the Dollar Tree to raise the center channel up a bit Works the same way, cost $1 and they're black so they disappear in with the rest of the system for movies Comment from : @Jimbomania |
Great tips high 5 to yah Oh sorry covid Comment from : @hapkrs |
Thanks for the tips Always trying to tweak my setup to get the most out of it Comment from : @airman6822 |

Great tips and I am now getting more quality sound from my Center speaker Comment from : @noelmaweya7729 |
Ok, so I moved my center speaker to the top of my unit as you advised I actually noticed a difference, before I felt as if the receiver was a split second off but actually it was probably because the speaker was at my knee height Lol Thanks for the advice Comment from : @kcranny9375 |
Another thing that can improve the coherency of the center speaker with the L/R is to set it to small and a 300hz crossoverbrThat way you get more consistant bass when going between speakersbrSame goes for surrounds 120Hz is a good crossover point Comment from : @magnusdanielsson2749 |
Can you recommend a great but powerful thin or small 71 speaker system? Comment from : @willkaliel8005 |
Hello Youthman, brbrI've been watching all your contents and enjoy them I have a dilemma on which speakers to choose and with that being said it is hard to pick one as I cannot just go to a hifi store and listen I currently have a Paradigm monitor 9v6/CC290 for front stage, powering them is an Outlaw 5000 with Marantz SR6011 with 2 x PB 2000 pro Thinking about upgrading to Emotiva T2+/C2+ or C1+, SVS Prime Pinnacles Also in my mind would upgrading from what I have make a difference? I hate to spend and speakers make no difference My home theater is in a grand room 19x 22 x 9 Please let me know your thoughts? Comment from : @jonathanyoung7050 |
Better to run a phantom center with good L+R than with a shitty C Comment from : @johto |
Great video! It’s worth to mention that some ported speakers come with plug You can use plug if you plan to use inside of the shelf Comment from : @NovikSlava |
Also picked up an iOS acoustics isolator for my center stand that you can articulate, dampens any vibration getting into the center , definitely does somthing and looks cool Comment from : @nickgiordano6518 |
i own klipsch vf 36 for my front left and right and my center channel is the klipsch rp450 c are the lower end klipschs speakers ok to match with the rp line Comment from : @corypetersen5081 |
I bought a piece of mogami cable with banana ends from parts express and made a DIY cable to replace my svs cable and oh yea it made and an improvement Seen this guy on YouTube make his own and made one for under $25 It will rival any high end cable , mogami is a quad cable so you use two conductors in each banana , so worth it Comment from : @nickgiordano6518 |
My dear good sir do you replyif someone ask technical help??? Comment from : @tejkarangehlot4741 |
Great Video, spot on advice Only thing I would add is that people may want to consider adding some kind of product to their center channel like an Isoacoustics stand or even Auralex MoPAD's I have found these to make a giant difference Comment from : @DigitalDonAV |
Sir I'm going to built home hifi from pro audio drivers I face some problems sir can u help me?? Comment from : @tejkarangehlot4741 |
thanks, these are helpful tips Comment from : @litonzaved7536 |
Im actually surprised at what a big difference moving the centre speaker to the front of my cabinet and angling the speaker up with a wedge makes Comment from : @wezz69 |
Thanks for the tips, great ones and useful I’m installing the Klipsch THX for all the 3 front speakers behind an acoustically transparent screen One question I have is, does the center channel speaker need to placed vertically or horizontally? Left and right are going to be vertical for sure Comment from : @savithaumarfarook |
Verry good advice Comment from : @arnelcomia2060 |
If you don't have room for a good center channel under TV just use your left & right for center imaging a lot of times it will sound better than a dedicated center channel Comment from : @kenshinesca |
The very best is to have all seven speakers the same,in my setup I have two pairs of side surround plus two rear back speakers Comment from : @danieljglowny4108 |
Great advise 👍 Unfortunately not everyone myself including has the money for this fantastic setup 😁 Comment from : @Militia_Dei777 |
Since when did LCR mean 3 bidentical/b speakers? Comment from : @bigelile07 |
While I'll agree that mixing and matching the front three speakers is not always ideal, it is also true that sometimes it works out I have living proof of it My right and left are Canton 8902 and my center channel is a pinnacle black diamond 700 Sounds fantastic across my front stage Interestingly enough the Pinnacle is a soft Dome and the Canton has a ceramic coated aluminum dome Comment from : @ryanschipp8513 |
My center sounds better the further away i standits an older b&w Also i plugged one of the ports That helped Comment from : @bullpup33 |
Left and right front channels should NOT be behind the screen Most sound from those channels comes from off screen, so it's very strange to have it come from the screen And frankly, picture quality is inferior on AT screens anyway, so center channels behind the screen come with huge trade-offs as well Comment from : @erod9088 |
Excellent video!! Comment from : @jeffleonard343 |
Hi Michael! SO pertaining to Tip #6 where you discuss placing the rear-ported center speaker in a cabinet, I have a Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-504C that's placed in an entertainment cabinet The speaker takes up virtually all the space allocated for the speaker compartment which is sealed or closed in the rear How might the sound be affected if I were to plug the rear port of the Klipsch such as you can do on SVS subwoofers? Thanks! Mike Comment from : @MT_53 |
