The last few months of the year in California anything that jumps out of the brush (quail,rabbits and squirrels) is legal game Its dense brush and I like a short fast handling shotgun to hunt the brush flats The 555 Compact fits the bill nicely

I took an interest in the 28 a few years ago, (after watching an episode of California Bird Hunters I believe) I ordered one, possibly the last one H&R made, & loved it I saw the Stevens 555E & bought one After a thousand or so rounds shooting trap it's great, I love it & it's made me much better behind a12 gauge

Contrary to your statement, experienced shotgunners (most anyway) appreciate the 28ga The better shot you become, the less gun you need Not to say we (I) don't enjoy the more widely known gauges, just sayin'

28 gauge is crazy expensive The 410 is just as unaffordable I stick to 12 and 20, hopefully they will stay affordable If the government ever really wants to disarm us they will do it with ammunition prices

I think it is funny that many consider a 28 a woman or child or beginner gun It takes much more skill and practice to hit with a smaller gauge A 410 is almost like trying to hit a flying target with a rifle

Check out the line of Mossberg SA 28 ga I've got a couple of their 20 ga semi autos that are great little gunsbrLet me add that generally with an O/U the bottom barrel is shot first because it's on a straighter line with should thus giving less barrel jump for second shot

As a kid in the late sixties our neighbor started me bird hunting I didn't have a shotgun so Mr Kline started me with a 28 sxs, putting one shell at a time I am looking to buy one and hope they enjoy more popularity in the future

I love a 28 ga I grew up on that gauge in a remington 1100! Best youth gauge made! Kick of a 410& capable as a 20ga! Many clay pigeon & skeet shooters use it I used it on quail, dove, pheasant, rabbits, & squirrels

Sadly, the rumors I've heard of late do not compliment this gun They have reliability issues Spend a little more $$$ and get yourself a GREAT one, like a Beretta 686 Silver pigeon An unreliable gun is not a deal at ANY price! JMO By-the-way, those shells are NOT good They are too hot and have horrid down-field performance I also see the recoil you conveyed in this videoNOT good! Flinching is rarely detected by the shooter It is best detected by a savvy witness Those heavy loads in a 28 could induce flinching, especially in a young, slight or female shot-gunner Seems too many shot-gunners think technology will magically transition them into good shots doesn't work that way with shot-guns I shoot 2 3/4", 3/4 ounce, #6s on wild pheasants from my SxS - STONES 'em! By-the-way, I LOVE your vid but you rarely put the more open choke in the top barrel The reason is that there is less "felt" recoil and less muzzle jump (purely physics) from the bottom barrel therefore, should you need to follow up with a second shot, your odds are better of target re-acquisitionbrGreat vid and thank you!

I love the stevens 555 28 I hunt out west in rugged terrain and having a light gun for bird hunting makes the hunt more enjoyable A 28 has plenty of power when hunting behind pointing dogs Ive killed everything from sage grouse and pheasants to forest grouse and quail Great gauge and gun for the price!

The 28 gauge is popular and common in upland game bird wing shooting (pheasants, quail, chucker, dove) Recent years, the 28/410 have started getting more popular in the waterfowl world due to Tungsten Super Shot I have experience with TSS, and I stretched the range all the way out to 88 yards I shot a mallard dead before it hit the water 88 yards away Confirmed the distance via GPS I don't ever shoot ducks that far away, it was basically a test to see how far the TSS can reach, but the ability to kill ducks with smaller gauges with TSS has made it more convenient to bring a lighter gun to the field There are folks folding Canada's 40-50 yards away with 410s now I'm currently looking for a cheap 28 O/U for the marsh as I'm now running TSS reloads

This is a great gun for walking the logging roads up in Maine during grouse season I typically carry an Ithica 37 12 guage, but it is heavier and the number of pellets is excessive for grouse so a 20 or 28 would be very cool It's not a "great" competition skeet gun because it does not eject

I’ve got a CZ- USA bob white g2 28 gauge it’s a great shotgun Also the quality of the Stevens 555 has gone way down in the past 5 years I bought a 20 gauge like 7 years ago it’s great quality but I bought a 12 gauge two years ago and the quality was just not there So I found cz USA and they make good quality firearms for a reasonable price

With an O/U shotgun the under barrel is typical shot first The reason is the lower position of the under barrel generates less muzzle flip enabling the shooter to get on target quicker for the second shot
