The last few months of the year in California anything that jumps out of the brush (quail, rabbits and squirrels) is legal game Its dense brush and I like a short fast handling shotgun to hunt the brush flats The 555 Compact fits the bill nicely Comment from : Michael Bandeko |
I picked up a 28 gauge autoloader for my wifeand I fell in love with it, myself It does everything for me that I want from my 12, but less recoil and less weight Comment from : Double D |

I wonder what a 28 gauge would do with a cut shell to replace the lack of availability of slugs Comment from : ALU Ministries |
Thank you! You’ve helped me understand and make a decision on purchasing an over and under! brLove watching you ❤ Comment from : Monica West |

I took an interest in the 28 a few years ago, (after watching an episode of California Bird Hunters I believe) I ordered one, possibly the last one H&R made, & loved it I saw the Stevens 555E & bought one After a thousand or so rounds shooting trap it's great, I love it & it's made me much better behind a12 gauge Comment from : N C |
Contrary to your statement, experienced shotgunners (most anyway) appreciate the 28ga The better shot you become, the less gun you need Not to say we (I) don't enjoy the more widely known gauges, just sayin' Comment from : Jeffery Perez |
Just a pleasure watching his videos regarding firearms Comment from : Carl Pallini |

28 gauge is crazy expensive The 410 is just as unaffordable I stick to 12 and 20, hopefully they will stay affordable If the government ever really wants to disarm us they will do it with ammunition prices Comment from : The69bombero |
You Americans are so weird!!! Why do you need guns for!!!! Only 5he government should have guns We aren't at war so why even have them!!!! And dont say the second amendment cuz that is such and archaic piece of paper! Hello the revolutionary war is over don't need to bear arms anymore!!! Comment from : CHAR_LIZARD |
I think it is funny that many consider a 28 a woman or child or beginner gun It takes much more skill and practice to hit with a smaller gauge A 410 is almost like trying to hit a flying target with a rifle Comment from : Ernest Jahn |
13:03 U means upper brYeah… Quit making fun of Kentucky Lol😂 Comment from : David |
he is bad Comment from : Dominick Pollino |
Check out the line of Mossberg SA 28 ga I've got a couple of their 20 ga semi autos that are great little gunsbrLet me add that generally with an O/U the bottom barrel is shot first because it's on a straighter line with should thus giving less barrel jump for second shot Comment from : olegig |
As a kid in the late sixties our neighbor started me bird hunting I didn't have a shotgun so Mr Kline started me with a 28 sxs, putting one shell at a time I am looking to buy one and hope they enjoy more popularity in the future Comment from : brokendad |
I have a CZ Bobwhite in 28Love it Good rabbit gun over dogs Comment from : LtTruck29 |

Darahn Sparks- that's cool and Hickok45 rocks Also, You can search and watch people loading a U-Haul truck Comment from : L Fitzsimmons |
HickokGuys are using it in the waterfowl world with the new innovations of bismuth and tungsten shot blends It's becoming a very popular round for ducks because of its weight when you're standing in water all day and its speed on the swing I prefer a 12 myself but that's why people are picking it Technology of the ammo has improved to where the 28 is now a viable option for even big ducks Comment from : james velder |
Never heard of 28 gauge till a few months ago I saw it on a rack And I thought it was a typo at first Comment from : Jimmy of the sea |
I out shoot my 12 scores with the 28 ga Quicker from the hip with the low weight and no punishing recoil Comment from : Ammoiscurrency |
With tungsten shot I LOVE my 28 for waterfowl and pheasant Reloading TSS makes the 28 a goose gun Comment from : Ammoiscurrency |
I love a 28 ga I grew up on that gauge in a remington 1100! Best youth gauge made! Kick of a 410& capable as a 20ga! Many clay pigeon & skeet shooters use it I used it on quail, dove, pheasant, rabbits, & squirrels Comment from : Lee McGann |
He’s a little out of his wheelhouse here 28 gauge is a superb bird shooter and clay breaker Most serious skeet shooters I’ve known shoot mainly 28 gauge out of their “tubed” 12 gauge skeet guns Low recoil Fantastic shot pattern But a true 28 gauge shotgun, built on a 28 gauge frame, is simply a joy to hold, swing, and shoot Comment from : Mark Fern |
Sadly, the rumors I've heard of late do not compliment this gun They have reliability issues Spend a little more $$$ and get yourself a GREAT one, like a Beretta 686 Silver pigeon An unreliable gun is not a deal at ANY price! JMO By-the-way, those shells are NOT good They are too hot and have horrid down-field performance I also see the recoil you conveyed in this videoNOT good! Flinching is rarely detected by the shooter It is best detected by a savvy witness Those heavy loads in a 28 could induce flinching, especially in a young, slight or female shot-gunner Seems too many shot-gunners think technology will magically transition them into good shots doesn't work that way with shot-guns I shoot 2 3/4", 3/4 ounce, #6s on wild pheasants from my SxS - STONES 'em! By-the-way, I LOVE your vid but you rarely put the more open choke in the top barrel The reason is that there is less "felt" recoil and less muzzle jump (purely physics) from the bottom barrel therefore, should you need to follow up with a second shot, your odds are better of target re-acquisitionbrGreat vid and thank you! Comment from : Shug ! |
I might have to buy one I bought a mossberg maverick 12 guage and not really practical for the whole family due to recoil and that sure is pretty I'm sure you can get a ruger red label or something that is gorgeous but I can live with prtmettylolthanks Comment from : James Branham |
I love the stevens 555 28 I hunt out west in rugged terrain and having a light gun for bird hunting makes the hunt more enjoyable A 28 has plenty of power when hunting behind pointing dogs Ive killed everything from sage grouse and pheasants to forest grouse and quail Great gauge and gun for the price! Comment from : W Tiefel |
Love my 28…people can keep there 12😂 Comment from : ET74019 |
I bought one about 4 years ago paid $400 for it the chokes that you can get to replace the junk jokes that they send with the gun are Beretta mobile chokes Comment from : mauserman67 |

The 28 gauge is popular and common in upland game bird wing shooting (pheasants, quail, chucker, dove) Recent years, the 28/410 have started getting more popular in the waterfowl world due to Tungsten Super Shot I have experience with TSS, and I stretched the range all the way out to 88 yards I shot a mallard dead before it hit the water 88 yards away Confirmed the distance via GPS I don't ever shoot ducks that far away, it was basically a test to see how far the TSS can reach, but the ability to kill ducks with smaller gauges with TSS has made it more convenient to bring a lighter gun to the field There are folks folding Canada's 40-50 yards away with 410s now I'm currently looking for a cheap 28 O/U for the marsh as I'm now running TSS reloads Comment from : Jeremy Mchenry |
He is so good at reloading Comment from : Echo |

If a guy aspires to take up the 28 gauge he should probably plan on reloading those spent hulls Finding that loaded ammo is pretty spooky Comment from : Badgerrr Lattin |

How did I miss this video Great stuff Comment from : James Christiansson |
This is a great gun for walking the logging roads up in Maine during grouse season I typically carry an Ithica 37 12 guage, but it is heavier and the number of pellets is excessive for grouse so a 20 or 28 would be very cool It's not a "great" competition skeet gun because it does not eject Comment from : Sterling C&R |
I’ve been thinking about trying a 28 gauge myself The 28 gauge ammo is becoming more available in recent years controlling for the big fluctuations for every thing You should try 10mm Tanfoglio Witness with 6 inch barrel, BTW Comment from : Wowbagger |

I’ve got a CZ- USA bob white g2 28 gauge it’s a great shotgun Also the quality of the Stevens 555 has gone way down in the past 5 years I bought a 20 gauge like 7 years ago it’s great quality but I bought a 12 gauge two years ago and the quality was just not there So I found cz USA and they make good quality firearms for a reasonable price Comment from : 73 powerstroke |

With an O/U shotgun the under barrel is typical shot first The reason is the lower position of the under barrel generates less muzzle flip enabling the shooter to get on target quicker for the second shot Comment from : Richard T |
