Comments Cheap v Expensive Golf Balls Test!! Golf Monthly

ms usa
This test is useless unless you test it with real beginners because the cheaper balls are made for them They would find that the more expensive balls do not perform better for low swing speed beginners
Comment from : ms usa

Søren Eriksen
maybe test "cheap" Srixon vs expensive Srixon and the same with other brands to note the difference within a product range
Comment from : Søren Eriksen

Ade Griff
It's ball snobbery Keep a few slazengers in your pocket and they warm up and are as good as a pro V1
Comment from : Ade Griff

Mathew Horlock
Started golf again last year Used the Slazenger V300 Made an ok start Have now moved on to the Titleist AVX now that I rarely lose a ball
Comment from : Mathew Horlock

Mike Partridge
only use a wedge near the green if I have to clear an obstacle, otherwise it's an eight iron so stopping power doesn't come in to it And as Chris Woods once said, a seven or eight iron is a high handicappers best friend around the green
Comment from : Mike Partridge

Carlson
The only folks that would use economy balls are average weekend players, which is what most of us are The test should be carried out using average weekend players, with average club head speeds
Comment from : Carlson

Thomas Carroll
I'd love to know what's the difference if any is between the V100 and V300 Great video very insightful
Comment from : Thomas Carroll

Samuel Drury
A $1 USD bill is actually 01 mm wider than a $5 bill But the real difference between the two is $4, not size
Comment from : Samuel Drury

robert cornell
I play because I like too, have tried all different types of balls, can lose expensive ones just as easy as cheap ones, don't really care about spin rate or any of that stuff have never been able to get a ball to spin backwards towards the flag i go to have some fun and some exercise
Comment from : robert cornell

바람처럼
inesis ball? I have triedultra!!super!!!Fuxx
Comment from : 바람처럼

Archekrahe
I hate golf
Comment from : Archekrahe

Fred B
Worthless test If it's not a true blind test, the bias factor will always be present
Comment from : Fred B

Sir CiderChops
Lovely looking golf course - where is this?
Comment from : Sir CiderChops

mp
As soon as I´m consistantly breaking 100 I´m starting to think about "balls" but now, sorry, doesn´t make any sense to pay 399+ to hit it into the next lake (usually I´m using lakeballs - to keep the balance ;-)
Comment from : mp

TheDannyCPFC
Insesis though 😳
Comment from : TheDannyCPFC

Roger Tonic
Yeah, you could use the inesis 900 tour, for same control as the premium balls, but still at half the price
Comment from : Roger Tonic

Lloyd Williams
Inesis like Vice also makes low priced premium balls
Comment from : Lloyd Williams

John Herman
I play the srixon z star for the price I believe it’s a good ball I’m a mid handicapper with a club head speed around a hundred to me it doesn’t pay for me to use prov1 golf balls Thanks
Comment from : John Herman

GOLF - Dream vs Reality
Cheap balls are definitely worth using if you are new to golf and loose loads
Comment from : GOLF - Dream vs Reality

LabGorilla
I go to the course and buy rescue golf balls Pay £1 for 3 Srixon soft feel or ad333 balls I’ve even sometimes managed to get a Srixon z star Never ever buy brand new
Comment from : LabGorilla

Macky Mode
Maxfli made the best balata cover balls ever, sadly I wasn't good enough of a player to take advantage of it muchbrI stopped playing golf 20 years ago actually, do they still have balata cover balls?
Comment from : Macky Mode

Mike Bordonaro
I miss the Slazenger RAW distance Loved that ball and can't get it in the states anymore Used to be $20US for 2 dozen and they flew great
Comment from : Mike Bordonaro

Walter White
I'm about a 10 handicapper with a few games finishing about 78 to 80 at times I did an experiment with melted balls I bought 50 used balls; most of them dirty I wanted to clean them so I put them in a pot with very low heat My goal was warm water for a few minutes I forgot about them, and came back to a raging boil 30 minutes later Many destroyed, but most were distorted eg dimples raised and some balls nearly ping pong-esque Funny story I know brbrI took them to the course Most of them flew nearly as straight with about a 10 yard drop in distance The point being, is that your average joe will NEVER revolutionize their game with an expensive ball Find a ball whose feel you like and play it Don't be afraid of used balls Invest your money into lessons and course time
Comment from : Walter White

Jim Pickard
Shout out from me for the Slazenger V300 Soft cheap as chips and lovely soft feel try some they're great
Comment from : Jim Pickard

johnnyboy2459
Should have tried the Slazenger Soft balls too
Comment from : johnnyboy2459

Steve Riggs Art and Animation
I use the Slazenger V300 Soft ball £18 for 48 balls Yes, I would love to play a premium ball and do if I find one on the course I am used to the ball I play and my game has adjusted to take this into account I wish you had added the V300 soft into the equation
Comment from : Steve Riggs Art and Animation

Budi Mulyo
compare it with the "corona ball" on youtube :)
Comment from : Budi Mulyo

Piano Fry
I like Pinnacle I think they are on the line between cheap and good I think those Nitros you can buy from Walmart are kind of crap but most others are the same
Comment from : Piano Fry

v4o82
You can tell the Slazenger would be low spin, it's dimples were shallow
Comment from : v4o82

Mrhappytime
I play off 8 and can use any ball Makes no difference to my score Don’t get bogged down in this shit 👍
Comment from : Mrhappytime

Stan yo bro
I use whatever my dog brings to me Just as long as it hasn't been chewed too much
Comment from : Stan yo bro

Stan yo bro
I had a box of various golf balls to practice chipping and pitching There was one ball in particular that always came closest to the hole Slazenger ! very consistent and nice soft feel
Comment from : Stan yo bro

phantumgrey
I hit new golf balls just as poorly and I hit used or found golf balls lol
Comment from : phantumgrey

Alexander Kitson
You need to breathe through your nose more and hit more consistently if doing a ball review
Comment from : Alexander Kitson

Billy Willis
Would have liked to listen to the review as that's what I came for Not loud crappy music! For that I go to the loud crappy music site
Comment from : Billy Willis

Clint’s CMVs
You provided scientific evidence that they are not all the different from cheap to expensive The ball you choose I believe is entirely psychological I play a medium priced golf ball and play better than when I do with the cheapest option
Comment from : Clint’s CMVs

Darren bell
Good video I'm a very high spin player so can get away with 2 piece low spin balls so my gamers are inesis distsnce or soft both fantastic balls Switched from srixon ultisoft and wilson staff duo and found no difference with scoring when using the inesis It beggars belief how they can make a solid ball that sells for £5 a dozen, You won't find a better all round ball and that comes from a 6 handicap golfer Forget the expensive balls they are a rip off
Comment from : Darren bell

T W
Inesis as a brand, seems to hold up SO well against the big, overpriced market leaders Really refreshing to see you DON'T need to pay the exorbitant prices the manufacturers say you do, through their huge marketing campaigns Golf would grow a lot more if beginners weren't put off by these prices!
Comment from : T W

Mike N
Do a review of all three of the Inesis balls the distance, the soft, and the tour 900
Comment from : Mike N

TX Kevin
I did an experiment of some golf balls using a Technasonic Check-Go Sweet Spot marker This device basically spins a ball at 10,000 rpms and the heavy side will work its way to the outside allowing you to mark the ball so that the "heavy" side is not on one side or the other (you can also mark a ball using salt water) If I mark and repeat the test, a balanced ball will not return to the same line I found that in my cheap balls Kirkland 3 piece balls, about 60 of the balls had an obvious heavy side or were not balanced By contrast, almost 95+ of my Taylor Made TP5 and TP5X balls were balanced with no prevalent heavy side Pro V1 balls I have tested also show a high balanced but I tested only a few of these It really points to quality control of a $1 per ball product (which I like), and a $375 ball Not sure how much actual performance difference it makes but I cant imagine being unbalanced is a positive
Comment from : TX Kevin

Michael Scales
I have played Inesis balls for some time nowThey work out at 41p a ball, and frankly I can't tell the difference between them and an expensive Pro V1They don't scuff, and are still very playable after a few rounds, and of course if you lose one at 41p each it doesn't upset you,as much as losing a £3 Pro V1brIncidentally Inesis make clubs and their putter at £14 is good valueOn another site,it was tested against a £399 Scotty Cameron and was not out performedbrInesis are like Primark and Aldi,in that they offer great value for your moneyI've been very happy with them and play off 12
Comment from : Michael Scales

Josh Lynch
Are you sure that the Slazenger shot wasn't just a fluke on the wedge? I mean it had very good spin on the mid iron shot and pretty decent spin on the driver
Comment from : Josh Lynch

Eric Dalgleish
Are these balls legal for competition play? I can’t find them on the R and A confirming ball list Inesis 500 and 900 are there but the 100 is not?
Comment from : Eric Dalgleish

7usnain
I would recommend the Callaway’s Chrome Soft balls, they are cheap and pretty good!
Comment from : 7usnain

Richard Clark
I play the pro v1 mostly because of putting I like the softer feel also when im 60 yards in from the pin the control of the ball feels much better just my 02 cents
Comment from : Richard Clark

Gavin and Jack Tucker
I play the Srixon ultisoft All other balls feel like rocks now and it doesn't matter about the price
Comment from : Gavin and Jack Tucker

Clyde Willy
Last year a guy in my group shot a 74 with a freakin Pinnacle distance golf ball at one of the harder courses here in Los Angeles He says he can play good golf with any ball I believe him
Comment from : Clyde Willy

John S
What an idiot
Comment from : John S

Mike Alexander
I only play Pro V1X because I run a charity, which helps bolster the local Florida economy It's called the "Support Professional Golf Ball Diver Foundation"
Comment from : Mike Alexander

Gary Widdowson
Chip with slazenger was a miss hit but the inisis seems good il give those a try
Comment from : Gary Widdowson

Glenn Watson
175 yards with a 7 iron! Does your husband play golf too? :)
Comment from : Glenn Watson

Jacob Hutchison
Definitly especially with a wedge A flop shot is a great way to tell that's what I would test I get so much more spin flopping a z star or pro v1 they stop dead on the green
Comment from : Jacob Hutchison

Neil Cavendish
Great video, when you factor in strike the difference could be less
Comment from : Neil Cavendish

Jayme Goode
Hardly anybody in the US uses Srixon anyway who gives a Fu** Let's see a ProV1X or Taylormade TP5X
Comment from : Jayme Goode

shane9new
Surely an important factor would have been to show the total distance as well as carry Therefore enabling us to see how much rollout was occurring
Comment from : shane9new

Neil Cuthbert
£45 difference, makes you wonder the top range balls are playing on the fact that pros will find a difference, but your average handicap player not so much , do pros pay for there balls, no don't think so
Comment from : Neil Cuthbert

Matt Spors
I use a ProV1 it saves me 2 to 3 shots a round By allowing me to chip closer to the pin
Comment from : Matt Spors

Boar Hog
Srix to get on and a Srix Putt
Comment from : Boar Hog

Bienvenido Spanish
Ineses tour ball is better than the srixon
Comment from : Bienvenido Spanish

Bienvenido Spanish
It's not a level playing field because you know what ball you are hitting and play it slightly different Need to redo it and black out names and see what happens
Comment from : Bienvenido Spanish

-RAM- M
interesting findings, but maybe not surprising I always found it amazing how ball manufacturers want us to believe that the latest and newest is so much better than the previous latest and newest I have hit a lot and haven't really found a discernible difference in any I suppose I'd be able to tell a difference in feel between a bargain basemen, closeout, distance ball and and ultra, tour premium one Just find one that meets your budget, go play and have fun Play one ball consistently, you will probably score slightly better I had a course/teaching pro say "you don't need balls to stop, you need them to go "brI do, on occasion, like to play a cheap-o ball against playing partners that insist on the latest and greatest tour ball, you know, just for fun
Comment from : -RAM- M

F 34
No matter what golf ball I use they always seem to end up in the trees or the water And my level of anger will depend on how much said ball cost
Comment from : F 34

Rocket Roy
Get rid of that bloody awful music!!!
Comment from : Rocket Roy

andrew gray
Er, Slazenger v300 is £18 for 48 at Sports Direct at the moment!!
Comment from : andrew gray

R Anderson
I'm a 13 handicap and for me, what's going to lower my score is hitting fairways and greens And for me to do that I just need to hit the ball straight consistently When I miss greens I tend to hit bump and runs rather than trying to hit a high flop shot, if I can help it On my approaches, I'm just trying to hit greens From 100 yards I'll typically get it within 30 feet From 150 I'm happy just to hit the green So whether a ball sticks or rolls out 10-20 feet isn't going to affect me much A few yards here or there doesn't matter and a "silky" feel off the putter doesn't matter That said, I'm not going to play a really cheap ball I'll typically pay $1 - $2 for a ball (Srixon Q-Star, Noodle, Bridgestone e6, etc)
Comment from : R Anderson

andrew gray
At the end of the day if you are a high handicapper like me isn't really going to notice much if any difference - other than the cost of lost balls! Sportsdirect currently have Slazenger v300 Soft at £18 for 24 and they are fine for me I also use pickups bought from local charity and second hand furniture shops - generally four for £1, all brands in the bins so you can get expensive balls for pennies if you rummage OK you don't know the historybut a new looking premium ball for 25pwhat's not to like?
Comment from : andrew gray

Silas Leeks
I think it depends on how long you've been playing and how good you are Majority high handicappers aren't consistent enough to tell the difference anyway Until you get to the point where you're somewhat consistent in your game, buy something cheap Don't go out and buy $50 ProVs You'll probably hit them in the woods
Comment from : Silas Leeks

SealTeam Ryx
When it comes to playing with balls, great players can play well with any of them
Comment from : SealTeam Ryx

Steve
I use the most expensive golf balls I can buy, and ZIZ m not a scratch golfer I spend all day scratching my head wondering why I spent so much on golf balls I can never findlol Na I don't really do that, but I will spend $35 or so on some good golf balls Usually Srixon or Taylormade
Comment from : Steve

Joy Barefoot
I am aging, and rarely break 70 anymore, but I have shot in the 60's with all types of balls Granted, when playing hard, fast, dried out greens and fairways, a urethane covered ball is much easier to get close, especially when you end up short sided or in above the hole In a lot of cases, however, when the course is well watered, I find the difference negligible Most players would do well to use a ball suited to their abilities, as indicated by ball fitting, but that won't make the shots for them "Without a swing, the ball don't mean a thing"
Comment from : Joy Barefoot

matlee
I am what would you class as a short hitter Average 295yrds off the tee My wedges usually spin 12,000+ rpm and my usual round would consist of 15-17 GIR and usually no more than 27 putts Being a high handicapper (26) I am more than happy to play the cheap balls until my game improves
Comment from : matlee

Brent Houser
Good videobut when you say price say money amount for usd as well as pounds
Comment from : Brent Houser

Chris Kennedy
Just my two cents -- find a ball you like, whether it be cheap or a tour model, and stick with it on all shots There is a difference in balls, and the most important thing is to know how your swing works with the ball you pick The ability to successfully predict how your ball will react in both distance and spin to your swing cannot be overstated
Comment from : Chris Kennedy

Petr blah
this test should be done for a hack golfer with much lower club head speed at impact, someone who drives it 200-220 yards, not 290
Comment from : Petr blah

Bob Levittan
Unless you have a much larger sample size or a machine hitting the balls, there's no way to eliminate the variation in how you were hitting the balls Most opinions in something like this are based on anecdotal evidence When people say, "ball x made by y is the best" the question should be "did you hit 1,000 shots using all of the models of every brand before you made that statement and keep statistics on all of them?" I think the answer would probably ultimately be that it's the only ball they tried or one of just a few I personally buy "lost" balls on-line where you can get Titleist Velocity balls for $5 (US) for a dozen They look new to me Anyway, I'd rather lose a ball that cost 42 cents than a ball that cost $4 I don't have a guy with a flag-stick chasing my balls around to mark where my shot went like the pros do
Comment from : Bob Levittan

GasCityGuy
Unless you are playing serious competitive golf it’s lunacy to pay 50 quid or more for a dozen balls
Comment from : GasCityGuy

Eat Shit
I use the cheapest balls Callaway Warbird is the most expensive ball I have ever used at $150 per ball That's US money for you lyme bastards
Comment from : Eat Shit

Pound Puppy
15:53 of my life that I"ll never get back
Comment from : Pound Puppy

Blk Foreign
If you know what the golf ball does and you play well with ituse it I don't think it really matters all that much until you get into the professional level anyway If you absolutely have to hit nice balls go for itbut i'll hit any ball that is descent I don't feel like I am good enough to benefit from the spin and "feel" As long as it isn't damaged, i'll play most balls I have a ton of nice balls that I just find though and you CAN tell the difference, I just don't think it makes me better Just look around for free nice balls That's what I do Especially if the group in front of you is slow, i'm off looking for balls I have TONS of ProV1's, ProV1x's, dt so/lo's, Callaway blacks, grey hawks You can find so many balls in perfect condition if the course is full of trees and bushes
Comment from : Blk Foreign

Jason Cooke
This is a very inconsistent test
Comment from : Jason Cooke

Kevin Morgan
I play off 2 and I use a Srixon soft feel surlyn ionomer ball in wet conditions as I don't need the spin rate i get from the Z Star i use when it's drybrThey feel much better than pro v1 and X variants feel say too hard for my likingbrBring back the wound balata ball
Comment from : Kevin Morgan

BoB Shotton
From 80 yards in Soft cover for me Never know how a " rock" is going to behave when it comes down I use the "thumb nail test" If I push my thumb nail along the cover and it doesn't grab It's a rock
Comment from : BoB Shotton

Anthony Mcleod
I use a pro 1 l I like the feel off the strike than a normal ball
Comment from : Anthony Mcleod

A K
I’m not ashamed to say I play with Slazenger v300 SOFT, there cheap as shite, 48 for £18 from sportsdirect my handicap came down after switching to these I was off 25 and I’m now off 15 was it the balls? Probably not! But what I’ve got from this is that when I used to play with more expensive balls I couldn’t control direction as much! So for me, Unless your a low handicapper with good control skill around or approaching the green Keep away from the bigger more expensive brands, save your money and stick to cheap soft balls! 👍🏻
