It's very possible, I'm a Mercedes Benz tech in MN I average 68 hours a week flat rate at $3560 I'll make $120k this year and my average clock time for a week is 45 hours per week I'm not specialized, I do any job given to me I understand that's not the norm but if you work hard it's very possible I've cleared 100k the last 3 years and I'm 27, been a tech for 8 years now Not making 100k yet as a tech? Work harder! That's a good first step Comment from : Jake K |

Must be different `depending on where you live In Ma the collision industry is ruled by the ins co They create end runs to circumvent the laws in order to control the industry The pay rates range from 36-42 per hour labor and out of that a tech gets his pay plus the business has to pat their overhead The insco sways the customer to go to a referral/program shop by offering a lifetime warranty The shop has to sign a contract to repair the vehicle with a set labor rate The customer may choose another shop but the ins co will only pay the contract rate and not negotiate with the shop They simply state the listed program shop has set a rate and take it or leave it Comment from : bill beckett |

Yup diesel in the oil and gas industry or mining field National average in oil and gas is like 102 and for underground mining is like 118k Now your going to work hard long hours Out of school I went to work for a truck shop for a refining/pipeline company Started at right around 32 and some change and worked 120 plus hours every 2 weeks Still work there and make considerably more a hour now Great benefits somewhere between 10 and 20k in various bonuses every year Can you do it putting time belts on hondas and changing oil? No I'm guessing Comment from : trent miley |

The best pay I've seen was a classified job ad for an experienced diesel mechanic paying $35/hour That was a legit hourly wage and wasn't flat rate and didn't depend on customers bringing work to your shop or any sort of commission It was fleet work for a big company and included good benefits If you add the benefits I bet it was close to 100k a year Comment from : MotorheadRedo |

Double minimum is a mandatory minimum hourly wage for requiring mechanics to provide tooling , for work performed using those tools, in California It does not matter if the employer is a dealership, independent shop, private fleet, etc It applies to all employers Comment from : Ford Truck Guy |
|
Here’s another scenario that needs looking at, and that is salary in general Let’s say you end up making 50-60k, after some time in the trade, individually you are in the to 10 of wage earners in the USA, that’s a statistic Justin mentioned something important that is demographic where do you live? Example I grew up in Washington state in my trade busting out 40K is about average it’s harder to make a living there, but I live in New York State, yes some costs are higher however I can double that income of 40K and I do A person must look at several factors in any profession do diligent research understand money and how to achieve financial success and most importantly learn money management There’s no greater wealth builder than your income Just sayin’ Comment from : Powder River |

Great video and a subject that no one likes to talk aboutmoney Yes a mechanic can make over $100K, but it depends on where do you live and how good are you I was in the industry and going to jr college In college I found out that accounting came easy and I left the industry at the age of 25 Two years later at Loyola University and the rest is history I wanted to own my own shop so I needed the education on how to manage a business Cheers Justin Comment from : Jimmy The Lumberjack |

Nice break down Justin I think it definitely depends on the area you live and the drive you have to get work done fast and efficient We all know it is very possible to make 6 figures a year as a mechanic Even at the slower shops I've worked at like Midas and Meineke I was taking home over 50k to 60k and that's when I was only in the field for 5 or 10 years I made the decision to get my own shop because i didn't want to line my bosses pockets with cash for my hard work I wish Richv the best and I hope something better comes his way But sometimes you have to take that risk like I did Comment from : JRC54 |
