when the colleges make a mistake , and have to re-imburse students , they blame it on staff that have left , conveniently reassigned or hidden from view at the front desk where the student lodged a complaint Comment from : noone knows |

I am a graduate of Wells College where the honour code was considered important Character is importantI have been working abroad and I have noticed that honesty is not quite so important, and I find this repulsive I am also of the opinion that US colleges are better The last thing US admissions should do is admit international students who , because of this dishonesty, are placed in a position where they may use the knowledge obtained in the United States to the detriment of society Comment from : Susan Arsoniadou |
I had a GPA of 9546 on a 100 scale up until the end of my junior year My SAT score is 1520, and my IB predicted grades are 42/45 It may increase to 43/45 I have a bronze medal in Baltic Sea Philosophy Essay Event and represented my country in International Philosophy Olympiads and was a coder in my school's FRC team that was invited to the finals in Houston I applied to US universities with financial aid request this year I was rejected from Amherst, Williams, Fordham, JHU, and UChicago Overall, applying with financial aid request as an international student sucks Comment from : Ece Göksu |
Are American Citizens who are attending international schools outside of the US treated as international students per se, American students per se or something in between by the admissions at the US colleges and universities? Comment from : EV or not EV that is the question for my next ride |

US universities reject international applications but they happily lap on the application fees from International applicants They are running international scam in the name of edication And US is big daddy of the world so its universities feel they have a free run to scam International applicants, expecially University of Texas, Austin Comment from : I am what I am |
First , Lots of Intl students who can study in Usa usually come from wealthy family because parents pay for most their tuition ! Second, yes they have totally different culture , that’s why nowadays less and less students apply college in US compare to 4-5 years ago I see more Asian American than international students now in US college They prioritize more on how many languages you can speak instead of how many extracurricular activities you have Comment from : Betty |
This is super insightful! Thank you for sharing can I ask you a question, is any age limit for an international student applying to a US school for Undergraduate progams from Nigeria? Comment from : Filzo & Okwy Udeagbala |

As an international applicant, I got into Stanford, MIT, Yale, Brown and Cornell I got waitlisted at Princeton, and rejected at Harvard and Columbia I took SAT only once and my verbal was 470 (out of 800), because I started learning English in Grade 10 - in the year I immigrated from Korea to Canada My grade 10 GPA was like 20, but it started improving rapidly So she is entirely right: Numbers, if taken out of the context, mean nothing to top college admissions Any questions? Comment from : machikr |

The hardest thing for international students like me, is extra-curricular parts I can take AP lessons, have perfect grades, and be academically really well, but when it comes to extracurriculars i have very few things In my country, there is only one hour club time which we cant be leaders There is no such thing as tutorship, or etc I'm still trying to do these, but it's being very hard to me Once me and my 2 friends designed a rocket and made it by our physics teachers help, and attended a competition It went very well, but idk really if US universities would care about that I attended MUNs, (been outstanding delegate twice but never the best), took AP's, tried to do these extracurricular things, played piano at orchestras and attended piano exams, and yet i had to work on my own countries' curriculum It's been very harsh to me and I'm scared that all of these would go for nothing, because my country is one of the most hated among the world and it is very hard for international students Maybe i should just give up and just study my own curriculum and get into my states' best university Because my school helps only by that way Comment from : Bak burası çokomelli |

Here comes the moneeeeeeeeeeey!!! here comes the money!! money money money!! Comment from : CodeSpeed |
on the money bit- she really tiptoed around this point but i think it's HUGE- in the overwhelming majority of cases, international students exist for schools to make money colleges that seek to proliferate knowledge and provide students with a great education will almost never extend those principles to international students because they make the colleges so much money Comment from : Alix |

Im American who just graduated from college so not really sure why Im here But a tip for everyone freaking out about number 4 get involved with your church That was one of my biggest extracurricular activities when I was applying was teaching Sunday school for 5 years at my church I was in some clubs and on some teams in high school but I mainly sat on the sidelines and heard my dad yell everyday( hes a high school teacher) good grades arent enough get involved It is just how it is in the US you need to show long term involvement in something so the colleges can see your not doing it just for your admissions Comment from : Brianna Taylor |

Too much emphasis on academics is the main issue they think because they are coming from a country where test score is everything, it automatically means better However, personality and individuality really assist with you doing something meaningful with your degree after you have graduated It spurs innovation and assist with creating that face for your institution An institution wants to know whether you will assist with keeping them in the top ranking once graduated Sadly, super intelligent with no personality is not going to do the job I see a lot of international students being rejected at an ivy league University because of this Comment from : Ray J |
I am from the US college is extremely expensive even for US citizens most have to take out crazy loans to go to college When I was in college almost every single foreign student I met was from a rich family College here for us citizens is like 20-25,000 dollars a year at a regular college and for foreigners Its ike 40,000 dollars per year even more if you go to a better school The chances of a foreigner coming to a US college for free as an international student are nearly zero sorry for the hard truth guys Like I said When I was in college I never even met someone who came for free I’m sure there were some international students that came free but that is like 1 percent of people every international student I’ve met so far comes from a wealthy family AND had good grades in school Some of these international students would even go to class in Lamborghinis and Ferraris I would see them in the parking lot Comment from : Pc culture ruined everything |
As an international student, i think that the fact we want to go to study to another country and go through so many stages and procedures to acchieve the requirements I think that shows how much does it mean to us to get quality education Comment from : Lautaro Carranza |

American universities do not respect other cultures, norms or attitudes, you either shape up to the American style or ship out Individualism in the US is defined by how well you align with the status quo, you have to conform European schools are more flexible and allow for true individualism, try European Unis first, US should be your last option Comment from : DAVIANO INGLESIAS |
I’m an international student in my senior year for my Bachelor’s Degree Don’t get discouraged! Research different colleges before applying Look at their statistics, reputation, graduation and success rate, and most of all inclusivity (the biggest and most important one) You’ll find the one right for you And if you’re a junior or senior in high school and viewing this, try to get involved in some extra curricular activities, volunteer work, or even if you have a part time job that is good because it shows you are productive outside of school While test scores and gpa matter, extra curriculars does too! And may I say, I believe money is the biggest reason for why int’l students are accepted because they support the US economy by the billions every year So even if you are just an above average student, that doesn’t mean you won’t get in If you show that you have the money to study in the US that is also a huge factor Comment from : Hopeless Nostalgic |
What about international students who completed all passed high school from USA Comment from : rishi bhatia |

I interview for MIT now (was an international student from Canada)brbrNeed aware universities: international applicants are trading a much lower rate for more financial aidbrNeed blind universities depend on the university Obviously when we're talking MIT, Harvard, Yale, Princeton these are looking for different thingsbrYes, you have to be pretty awesomebrbrOne point that I'd add for #4 extracurriculars is that a lot of internationals like to put stuff down like "hours spent" (So very boring)brbrLet's flip it around from a different perspective:brIf you think about life after college -- so you have a job:brbrIf you are reporting hours a week, usually these are menial jobsbrbrIf you report or focus on responsibilities, you are a worker beebrbrAnd if you report accomplishments, you are a leaderbrbrIt should come as no surprise that when the need blind universities are looking for leaders, they focus in on accomplishments Comment from : Chris Lee |

Can you make vedio on converting gpa for international student ? Comment from : Jaysinh Chauhan |
I think it's good Why should a US college pay for foreign students when they'd go back to their countries and contribute what they've learned? It's a loss But of course, bad news for me Comment from : DarkTealGlasses |
I am from Brazil and is funny here, the grades don't count, neither the extracurricular, is like only a test to do to pass to university, so we can care abt ec's or not (like is normal to have a school with sports like basketball, voleyball, soccer and swim, have a curse of threater, draw, but is not normal to have clubs and school newspaper, only if you start with your own) Comment from : Catarina Guilhon |
Looking at other students going for the same schools I am, they tend to have built in activities offered by the school Do extracurricular activities count even if they’re not formal, like for example weightlifting, which is something I do a lot of? Comment from : MFN |
Hey Brooke,brI'm form INDIAbrbrCan you guide me to write best essays Comment from : Sai Vignesh Naragoni |
On the issue of the cultural divide, lost in translation and individualism, is it not up to American universities to understand the cultures and languages of the people and countries they want to enrol students from, instead of the other way round I encourage our students to apply to European universities instead of American colleges, due to their narrow mindedness and self importance Basically international students can be themselves as long as it conforms to American standards of culture and behaviour Its ridiculous to call that individualism, because its individualism only when it conforms to American standard of individualism, if you express individualism as it pertains to your culture its not individualism Its a dictatorship BS Comment from : Ada Foe |
Hahahaha can you please explain why there are so many Filipino registered nurses in the Philippines being hired to work in the US? Comment from : Miss Bee |
