Michael Muir
Awesome I did know a lot of this from reading but getting it straight from such knowledgeable sources makes such a difference, especially as people I know ask me quite a few science based questions, I'm glad I haven't given them bad advice!
Comment from : Michael Muir

SMART-voterorg
The problem iswho funded the studies Drug companies want you sick unless you take their drugs

Had scary neuropathy & fibromyalgia after tick Borrelia exposure Legs & arms became weak, heavy & achy for many months Out of desperation to get better, I spent lots of money on megadoses of vitamins & supplements A year later, my serum creatinine flagged outside the normal range for the 1st time Scary to realize how my kidneys were damaged by all the pills I now use nutritional yeast for B vitamins, Brazil nuts for selenium, & eat primarily an organic plant based diet The only pills I regularly take are a probiotic, Vit D, coQ-10, & fish oil & on occasion resveratrol & an eye health supplement I feel its enough
Comment from : Sandra P

Andrew Roberts
Imagine having Sarah round your house and she tries to tell you that too much of a vitamin isn't good for you, and you're like "nah Sarah, think I know more about this than you" 😂
Comment from : Andrew Roberts

Brett Charlton
The way Americans pronounce 'vitamins' annoys me more than it should
Comment from : Brett Charlton

P Heart
I have autoimmune disease and twice over the years I have experimented with high dose vitamin C,and each time(over several months) I caught everything going Every cold flu or throat infection going round I caught it When I stopped taking it I stopped catching everything
Comment from : P Heart

Jane Schade
I’m confused because we all know that the oceans and the lakes are just dumping areas and I’ve heard enough scientist speak about the plastics that the fish and the other sea life creatures are consuming is plastics, are detrimental to our health, so how can we justify taking a fish oil supplement or eating seafood when we know those plastics are going directly in to our bodies because of what all of the sea life creatures have eaten?
Comment from : Jane Schade

AJ Clark
No declaration of conflict of interests? Who funded all the clinical trails? We know that big pharma funds public bodies that advise on health So how do we know this information is not contaminated by vested interests? brGet all guest, including presenters declaring conflict of interests
Comment from : AJ Clark

Walter Taylor
I also would be curious to know that if we have evolved primarily as herbivores why have we inherited a necessity for vitamin b12? Vegetarians and vegans have no choice but to take vitamin B12 as a supplement have they?
Comment from : Walter Taylor

Walter Taylor
With respect to the podcast on supplements there was no mention of turmeric / curcumin which is very difficult to get sufficient amounts of in even a highly spiced diet Would you recommend taking this as a supplement?
Comment from : Walter Taylor

Andrew Mainprice
I get through a kilo of carrots a week Is this too much
Comment from : Andrew Mainprice

Mandi L
Wow, pretty outdated research How does she not mention that vit D (first of all D3 not D2) should be taken with K2 to aid absorption in the bones, huge difference for bone health How does she not talk about the fact that we're way less outside than our ancestors?? We need vit D, all of us How does she not talk about the fact that nutrients are clearly reduced in modern produce due to soil deterioration? Unless you eat organic but even there The fact that iron deficiency runs rampid amongst menstruating women The fact that selenium and iodine are both often deficient in soils, hence our only sources of iodine are seafoods, that salt ain't enough
Comment from : Mandi L

Wonky Wellbeing
I love these Zoe webinars - as scientist in psychology, they are great and evidence based I tell all my clients about these

Comment from : Robert THOMPSON

Patty HK
Thanks very much for this information Can you help us identify a reputable producer of multivitamins?
Comment from : Patty HK

Chris Robbins
People who take a lot of vitamins and supplements just end up having the world's most expensive urine And that's assuming the v & s's they take actually contain what they claim on the label which is probably only accurate about 2 of the time The entire industry hasn't changed much in 150 years when hucksters went town to town in a wagon selling tonics and patent medicines that reputedly could cure anything and everything
Comment from : Chris Robbins

Josep aldosa
if you are vegetarian you should consider fish oil supplement? Man sometimes if your own recomandations are sitting well with your brain And btw the cringeness of pushing fish oil vs algae oil, which is literally the same but without toxics or rancid taste, is heavy There is more evidence for fish oil? Obviously it has been more researched, and yet, evidence is quite bad if you cant still recomend it generally
Comment from : Josep aldosa

Emil Klingberg
So much evidence mounting against her claims on Vitamin D here, a dose of 1000 IU is practically worthless And the general recommendations are way below what they should be, 10000 should not be considered a mega dose, but rather the minimum
Comment from : Emil Klingberg

Ben Jane
1, 000u of vitamin D in England in the winter what a joke, the thing is with Zoe it's all about one opinion
Comment from : Ben Jane

Charles Hagg
I would like to hear about another reason for taking omega 3 oils Due to our society consuming such a large amount of omega 6 fats from refined vegetables oil, the ratio of omega 6 to omega 3 can be extremely high, Even 20:1 brOmega 3 from supplements or certain foods can improve that ratio, reducing inflammation In regard to reducing inflammation, plant based ALA works just fine
Comment from : Charles Hagg

gerry secure
Checked my multi vitamin product Most ingredients are 100-300 RDA Why are there no pills with say 50 each ? Its supposed to be a supplement, not a replacementbrI eat healthy and do a lot of exercise and sweat a lot I think I could just use a supplement with water soluble stuff only
Comment from : gerry secure

Roland lickert
Thanks, you save me a lot of Money! I take many vitamins and now you basically tell me Multi Viamine, Vitamine D 2000 are more than enoughEating the right food will do the rest
Comment from : Roland lickert

Green Deane
There is a huge credibility issue Medicine has become so anti-health, and the well-established doctor hate of vitamins is pervasive The harping here did not ease my distrust Doctors can find what they are looking forThey have lied so much in the field of nutrition I just don't trust the medical bastards any more And it was depressing to hear the discredited mantra of red meat and saturated fat How ^$#@! ridiculous The American medical industry has little to so with health, they are attitudinal and intentionally blinded experts and entranced deeply in dogma
Comment from : Green Deane

Paul Dewhirst
Why did Johnathan omit Afroamericans from his summary on omega 3’s?
Comment from : Paul Dewhirst

Rebecca Gutierrez
Funny how the word vitamins is pronounced differently outside of North America
Comment from : Rebecca Gutierrez

Comment from : Ann Fuller

Viramin abd minerals but especially B vits ,Vit C The hundreds of thousands of metabolic pathways that rely on just these pivotal vitamins ,mega dosing is a specialist area Again research is probably 20 years behind times ,do thf research use latest forms methylated B vits ,etc we dl need extra supplements sorry all diets are deficient especially in these all manner of vitamins minerals co oenzymes ie CO Q10 Wrong type of vitamin E This is ridiculous you take vitamins to maintain optimal levels ,high methylated B complex will create clear headedness increase energy help ,etc add to good multi theanine ,co q10 pqq NAC glycine ,fat slluble vits yes have to more carefull with synthetic vit d is not good in summer etc use cholesterol pathway
Comment from : Richard Price

Meek
Could you recommend a source that would give some guidance on vit d dosing based on skin tone? This is surely going to impact dosage drastically
Comment from : Meek

James-L
QUESTION—when ‘you’ talk of dosages what level of dosages are we talking about and, especially, when are these taken? Daily? Weekly? Other? Excellent discussion and thank you!
Comment from : James-L

Vive Viveka
Why do so many nutrition experts recommend consulting with your health care provider?, especially when these same people warn that most doctors have very little nutrition education or expertise?
Comment from : Vive Viveka

Comment from : Faust Gorham

RealityCheck
Don't take vitamins Every vitamin supplement has its risks Especially synthetic vitamin D Most vitamins are not tested/approved before released/sold on the market Usually they are only tested after someone gets sick or they get a complain Eat right (a lot of meat and veggies/fruits) and walk on the sun Problem prevented/solved Only take a vitamin if you have an issue and the doctor after a blood test recommends it right away So in an emergency
Comment from : RealityCheck

andiamoci22
so Omega 3 and vit brD are important correct?
Comment from : andiamoci22

William C
Adults over the age of 50 may benefit from "mega-doses" of vitamin B-12 according to the National Academy of Medicine I take a Centrum multivitamin for men over 50 three or four times a week, and B-12 is the only mega-dose vitamin in it
Comment from : William C

Mac Clift
Nature has seen to it that fair-skinned people in cold climates don't need supplemental vitamin D It's a fat-soluble vitamin and can accumulate (lurk) in the body wreaking havoc in those who don't need it
Comment from : Mac Clift

Mac Clift
It really wouldn't surprise me if vitamin/mineral supplements are one of the most important causes of cancer

Comment from : Martin Horton

Julie Carden
A useful discussion about vitamin supplements and research However, as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant and Registered Nurse, I was disappointed to hear half hearted promotion of breastfeeding, and factually incorrect advice suggesting breast milk may not contain enough vitamins There is a huge amount of evidence to show that breast milk has all essential vitamins (and other nutrients and immune factors- many not able to be reproduced in formula) Many vitamins are more easily absorbed through breast milk - for example, there is a lot more iron in formula because it is far more easily digested in breast milk The amounts of vitamins in breast milk is the perfect amount for a baby Breastfeeding parents and formula feeding parents, of course, need to eat a nutritional diet and supplement as advised, for their own optimal health
Comment from : Julie Carden

Claire Cadoux
I made all vegetables end up looking like my child's favourite sauce - tomato ketchup He had no idea He ate a fine range of veg Am I the only one who did this?
Comment from : Claire Cadoux

Julie Johnston
I feel sure our individual ability to absorb vitamins/minerals differs enormously, so I don't understand how that would fit with standard recommended amounts for everyone
Comment from : Julie Johnston

Rovert128
The off hand negative comments about red meat surprised me Lots of people have benefitted from the Keto diet, supported by many studies I have felt much healthier - mentally and physically since switching to a Keto themed approach - concentrated on meat/leafy greens and reduced carbs Haven't seen any real evidence against red meat
Comment from : Rovert128

deadhead02
I use an app called cronometer to monitor my intake - easy to see lack and find a food to fill that gap
Comment from : deadhead02

Comment from : William Konarzewski

Pragmatist
This is subliminal big pharma The jury is in You don’t need any …you can have a test for vitamin D, so the comment that we should take vitamins D is again wrong if the test indicates that you are fine Dump vitamins and increase your consumption of foods with Vitamin D, and others She takes a multi vitamin but there is no evidence produced by her … none, that she needs it That’s very bad brBecause she recommends a multi vitamin , she supports big pharma many fools listen to her and go out and buy thembrNo mention of fat soluble which are not peed down the toilet, but build up in your bodybrRemember we all get trace benefits from most food, and your body is outstanding in absorbing what is requiredbrI’m so annoyed at these lousy comments, they are trash
Comment from : Pragmatist

Vikki Prevette
They should be preaching about less calcium and more magnesium, calcium build up is Not a Good thing…
Comment from : Vikki Prevette

Jacqueline Hillson
Apparently they don’t work, check your bloods , if your deficient in something , makes sense to take a supplement
Comment from : Jacqueline Hillson

Jennifer Dyster
The selling point of companies that promote vitamins and mineral supplements is that our soils are depleted and modern watering practices yield vegetables and fruits that contain less nutrients than they should I do notice a big difference between the fruit and veg produced by my brother in law and that which you buy in supermarkets so it does seem possible My bro in law waters once a week and produces compost on an industrial scale and his produce is drier (eg pumpkin ) and more flavoursome
Comment from : Jennifer Dyster

misterbaleize
Some worthwhile information; thank you That said, Dr Manson condemned red meat while praising fructose-filled-fruit Fructose severely damages the liver and, except for the irregular consumption of a few blackberries, should be avoided Our ancestors ate red meat, and so should we Consuming red meat with any form of sugar - a dangerous toxin - is what causes Cardio Vascular Disease!!
Comment from : misterbaleize

You've misspelled the good doctor's name in the headline It's Manson, not Mason

Lauren
I’d be curious to know what multivitamins on the market are worth looking at I’ve done a lot of research on this topic and have not found one I’m confident in They all seem to contain vitamin E and/or have larger amounts of vitamins than necessary One of the more basic multivitamins I was able to find only has one multivitamin that is third party tested and again, has vitamin E I’ve also read that a lot of fish oil is rancid in supplements and that can pose its own risks Thank you for the video!
Comment from : Lauren

Joanne Mosher

Kathy Gann
The most current research I hear about says NOT to take calcium Research is also saying K2 is beneficial for people with heart disease and that it causes calcium to move from soft tissues to bones so it helps prevent osteopenia What is your opinion?
Comment from : Kathy Gann

Danni
I heard on a surgeons site one of his patients took 20000vit D3 with K2 and after 5 months she was cured of heart disease, what do you think? Is it safe?
Comment from : Danni

Laurie
African Americans absorb less rays due to their melanin, which causes low vitamin D This video prompts me to ask this question: While the vitamin D study involved many people, it is known that significant numbers of people are low I tested frighteningly low in D People such as I should be encouraged to dose at 5,000 per day as my physician advises If a person is tested before and after supplementing, it hardly seems like mega dosing Another point that came to mind, most holistic docs recommend D plus K2, since the K2 regulates blood clotting and also ensures calcium uptakes in the bone rather than blood vessels
Comment from : Laurie

Abi Davies
Could have been interesting to see how veggie and vegan people fit in
Comment from : Abi Davies
