I have a questionbrI'm a complete beginner and want to learn vocabulary to get a bit of a foundationbrI can read Hiragana and Katakana but no Kanjibrpersonally i only want to learn vocabulary for the time being but in the anki deck i can only see the Hiragana/Katakana on the back site an on the front the KanjibrIs it better to learn the vocabulary with the Kanji and should simply break through that or should, or can i put the reading on the front page?brI would like to know what is better for mebrI would like to read japanese because i want to read manga but i don't think i really need Kanji for that because in most cases there are the readings over that but if it makes everything easier in the end i would be willing to break trough it Comment from : @SitonLP |

I'm now 98 days in doing 1 hour minimum a day Currently sat at 132 hours and just took the n5 and failed 3 questions When I pass n5 I feel my motivation will skyrocketbrbrThe best feeling so far is being able to read a lot of the text in this video and know what it means when on day 1 I understood nothing of course But now I can read Hiragana and Katakana plus a good handful of kanji just fine Grammar and remembering specific verbs are my biggest issue Comment from : @EvanCaritopTV |

Since the recent Duolingo update, I have been using it to learn how to write kanji, I know this may not be everyone's goal but it definitely is helpful to do one or two lessons of it a day! Only downside is you have to do course lessons, however you can just skip ahead doing tests Comment from : @JustaRandomanimeweeb |
|
That video is very helpful man, appreciate it, you are my saviour and a very big motivation point ;) Explanation was really understanding cuz I really didn't know what to do after learning kanas, but now I do So yeah, thanks a lot! Comment from : @zyrokuu |

sharing tips i know to learn katakana and hiragana for those who prefer this method, i used monkeytype's japanese mode to practice typing basic words, up until i could type around 20 words per minute at first, you might need to have a chart next to your window as you type, but eventually, you will begin to memorize how to type each hiragana by making yourself type faster, you'll have to memorize each character in order to keep this faster speed i used this to learn hiragana in less than about 3 days, and now i can type around 20 words per minute, only struggling with ぬ、め、わ、ね、れ、さ、 and き hope this can help someone Comment from : @nekosh1ru |

using an app called "kana" for ios after watching a 1 hour hiragana video on youtube and its pretty fun 1 weird thing imo is that hiragana and katakana can both be used in the same sentence, which is something i didnt expect Comment from : @grqfes |
|
What exactly is the issue with answering "Easy" or "Hard"? For a while I've been using it accidentally (hitting just 1 or 2 on the keyboard is engrained in my memory) but I wonder in what way it ever fucked me up, and if it's really a big enough problem to change such an engrained habit Comment from : @zwein1817 |
|
I like Migaku, I’m trying it for Mandarin Chinese, might use it for Japanese later I have a problem with Anki, sentence sound, Forvo sounds and Google Images aren’t saved and displayed in my Anki cards I’m on Mac OS X, any idea how to fix it? Comment from : @fabiothebest89lu |

POV: iyou want to watch Anime without subtitles/i Comment from : @skylightexe_ |
|
I'm surprised tofugu's hiragana guide wasn't in here They make you memorize hiragana by pointing out weird things the symbols resemble, usually the more complicated the mneumonic the easier they were to remember, and after doing it enough it would be engrained deeply enough you wouldn't need to recall the mneumonic anymore to remember something brbrAlthough I gave up on it three days later that was still enough time for me to learn and remember 48 hiragana Almost 6 months later I tried their quiz again for fun could still remember 26/48 of them Comment from : @ItsGamein |

I am gonna be honest adn say that your method doesn't work at all for me Even if i do my flashcards daily they just start to pile up into a bigger and bigger pile of meaningless symbols that get increasingly difficult to concentrate on It is really mentally painful Comment from : @Nickname863 |

Hey, just started learning japanese 2 days ago This video was very helpful for me and for my motivation Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that changing your phone's && pc's main language would help with understanding your target language I did that when I was still learning basic english and helped me quite a lot It could be a problem for japanese tho, due to kanji, but I think it would be a nice addition to someone's language learning journey And one that doesn't require too much effortbrbrbrbrbrbrbrbrbrbrbrbrbrbrbrbrbrI said way too many times "language", lolbrAlso, I learned hiragana :D Comment from : @pieTone |

It hit really close to home when he spoke about the real reason why learning Japanese is hardbrMyself a student of mandarin Chinese got to know this problem all to wellbrThey always tell you east Asian languages are hard But the mainstream fears and opinions of why it is hard are so wrong They always fail to talk of accurately reflect on this point "Learning an east Asian language is hard not because it is complicated in it of itself but because they are so different from our own mother tongues they will take 4 times the amount of time that I could take for us to learn a related language"brOf course I was not prepared and have struggled with consistency since I started brI have put time and effort believe me But when I saw that effort was not up to par with my desires I quitbrAnd that was my failure I got lost in the forest of language learningbrTry to apply the methods that had worked for me in the past and seeing that they didn't pay off got me pissed offbrIt took me five or so years into my language learning endeavor into mandarin to fina comprehend this aspect and what was necessary for it to workbrI decided to comit myself But with new outlook The forest no longer seem so crampedbrI wish any one who may read this That you may succeed in yours too :3 Comment from : @stevenoviedo541 |

Hey Livakivi, amazing video The only thing I'm questioning is why you recommend setting leeches to "tag only" From what I know, MattvsJapan (and Refold), recommend actually being fairly aggressive about leeches so that you don't waste unnecessary time banging your head against them Even a very conservative threshold like 8 (the default) seems better than eternal leeches, which is what tag-only effectively does By not automatically removing anything, someone new to studying vocab may get really frustrated with thosebrbrFor beginners, it might also not even occur that they can later browse the deck, sort by the leech tag, and remove the cards manually I think it is probably better to leave leeches to be suspended automatically for that reason, later down the line you can always go back and tackle them But considering how good your advice in this series is overall, I'd like to hear your thoughts!brbrEDIT: another note, I'm about 1,500 cards into the core2k6k deck and I have to say that this deck really loves throwing a bunch of very similar words, with similar kanji, at you at the same time (optimized???) This is an example of when leeches can be useful Trying to learn two very similar words at the same time is frustrating, but if you let one of them leech and tackle it later, you will probably save yourself time and stress Comment from : @auxiliaryboxes |
|
Is there an alternate download for the Core 2k/6k deck? The download on the website you linked seems to be broken Comment from : @travis4938 |

|
Hey, you have been a big inspiration for me and actually made me start this, but I have some questions What do you think about learning the kanji literals first, or the nihongo shark method for kanji and etc? Because I have seen alot of peolpe talking about the importance of the stroke order and the best way to learn it brDo you think those things are important or kinda of a waste of time? Comment from : @gamercomlag7537 |

Man, this is the best and most wholesome guide to learn Japanese I've been tapping into the idea of learning it for real this time, and you are my main inspiration to start this journey Consistency and fun over perfectionbrbrI also have a question Regarding to listening to music as a source for immersion, many people say it's bad and pointless What is your opinion on that? I love Japanese music and listen to it all the time, but I usually don't focus on the lyrics Comment from : @JapsPlay |
