That red candle has burned way too long Your wick will get long enough where it won’t draw up wax If you blow your candle out & it smokes a lot, your wick is too long
Comment from : Divakitn1

Edwin J
This was so NOT helpful
Comment from : Edwin J

K DT
It's because of the wicks! If you make your own candles, wick size, jar diameter and type of wax has to be taken into account, burn times are important too If you purchase a candle, well you're at the mercy of the seller
Comment from : K DT

Victoria McCauley
I could use some advice: brI have a 3" candle jar that I've filled with the wax left over from other candles I put in a wick meant for 3"-5" (width) candles and brIt tunneled Like a dog left alone in the garden, it dug a whole I had it burning for 1-2 hours, and It burnt a 1" wide, 15" hole brbrI can piece together another wick, but if I could figure out how to use the first one, that would be great because I have a whole package of them I'd like to use in other pieces Would anyone happy to know how I could treat a wick to make it burn slower? Salt? Oil? Magic? Blood sacrifice to the Gods?
Comment from : Victoria McCauley

Cecilia G
That happens even to candles you don’t turn off

Candle tunnel Get a Butterknife gently push the walls toward the center the flame melt the side walls that you pushed toward the center and all will be resolvedbrbrStill fun to do…:)
Comment from : jacqaqq

Jack Mellors
You can easily fix this with tin foil Cover the top of the candle and poke a hole about 2cm in diameter in the centre This gives access for air to circulate but reflects the heat of the wick This will melt the surrounding wax back into the pool
Comment from : Jack Mellors

HarleyAMV
You CAN save a candle that's already developed memory rings!brIf you take your candle out for regular walks, give it plenty of fresh air, and especially enrich it's environment it will soon develop new, beautiful memories that will take over any bad, unfinished memory rings of the pastbrMake sure you always listen to your candles' feelings and don't project your own negativity and insecurity upon your candlebrYou're candle is going through a lot and needs your supportbrI hope all of your candles will have long and beautiful lives!
Comment from : HarleyAMV

Christopher Pape
Personally, I've run into the issue of letting my new candles burn for several hours but they still wouldn't melt the wax all the way to the glass So just another tip for anyone out there, you can use candle toppers, which help to hold in more of the heat of the flame and as a result do a better job of melting all the wax
Comment from : Christopher Pape

Marty Edson
I’ve been able to recover a tunnel by wrapping the outside of the candle jar with aluminum foil and a small piece of tape Not the most attractive thing but it keeps the heat in and melts it evenly
Comment from : Marty Edson

Das
Paraffin wax can produce fumes which can accumulate and form an explosive mixture This can result in a sudden flash over setting the items in the vicinity alight and as you say cause a fire

Comment from : Theresa Slattery

Nathan Hale
I've remelted candles and added larger wicks plenty of times The best wicks have small metal wires woven into them

To keep the smoke down, cover the candle with an aluminum foil cap Leave it in place for several minutes and the smoke will condense back into the container

It's so complete thank you, people who recommend candles never mention the most important thing, a candle is cancerous just like a cigarette, never light a candle without opening a window Even if it's winter Having a candle lit at home when all the windows are closed is like smoking a cigarette I understand there are way more dangerous things in a cigarette but the main source of cancer, smoke, fire, incandescence needs circulating air to diminish the harm Would you agree ? Thank you

IxUr LiFe
Lot o 💩 before all theses fancy candles they was long and thin or church candles still burnt unevenly even 500yests ago lmfao because the wick is central Einstein always will burn unevenly no matter what lol multlops wicks positioned for bigger candles and for thin 1s of seats the wick by 05m Alresford doe the maths whe I was a kid❤
Comment from : IxUr LiFe

Reese Richard
Also don’t burn your candle at both ends 😂

Rebecca Webb
There's a certain affordable brand that tunnels no matter if you burn it all day long But I really enjoy their pine scent at Christmas, so I buy it anyway
Comment from : Rebecca Webb

Simon H
WowbrDidn't realise there were any considerations or 'science' when it came to candles brI have some lovely scented ones unused & tucked away, because of the exact reasons you mentioned Soot & tunnelling brGreat video Thank you 😁👍
Comment from : Simon H

Miss_Idolize P
Good video and advice! Is it possible to stop this tunneling happening with candles that are NOT in containers - self-standing ones, like the big, thick 'church' type candles? brFor example, I have a big candle (300 mm tall, 100 mm wide) which is now basically a shell or tube of wax with the wick way down inside I can trim it with a warm knife which works but can be a bit messy so I'm wondering if you have any tips on making chunky candles burn down more evenly?
Comment from : Miss_Idolize P

Elle Cee
I wrap my candles in foil works a treat

They say you learn something new every day well with this video I certainly did 👍🏻
Comment from : Stuart Wells

ChasingMidnight
The candles are often made badly If the wax isn't melting to the edge, the wick itself is not thick enough
Comment from : ChasingMidnight

Dr Fill
Previously, I cut my wick so short that it created a quantum tunnel in the fabric of space time I had to apologise to ghenghis khan

Dr Fill
I got my micro surgery kit out and grafted a donor wick from a related wick that died of cancer

Sally Button
Great advice, thanks👍 I always extinguish my candles by putting a ceramic saucer over the top of the candle glass
Comment from : Sally Button

Latitude
I don't want to be a slave to my candle ("No, you can't go to bed yet I'm not completely liquid on top") Just NO
Comment from : Latitude

myname
The instructions on the candles I buy say to burn them a certain number of hours, depending on the size of the candle, to prevent tunneling I've never had tunneling

YokaiByte
Donate your useless wax to skateboarders at skate parks brbrThey'll love it brbrbrOr just melt the wax down and make a new candle
Comment from : YokaiByte

Jerry Dechant
You mentioned wick size having an effect on being able to heat the wax enough to melt the wax all the way to the container wall Any ideas on how to tell whether the wick is of sufficient size to function as you recommended?
Comment from : Jerry Dechant

W Apnj
"Candle Memory"LoL Too small a wick Just melt the entire candle and replace the wick with a larger one
Comment from : W Apnj

Joshua Samuels
Buy candles with multiple wicks and the candle burns evenly Problem solved
Comment from : Joshua Samuels

David Colin
One thing you didn't mention is how to clean the wax off the container when it's finished Quite a lot of candles come in a nice glass container, and it is a shame to waste the glassbrAll you need is vegetable oil Leave the oil in the glass/container for a few days The wax will have softened enough top be able to wash away with simple washing up liquid
Comment from : David Colin

Odd One Out
£ 1375 for a candle? Holy smokes, that’s expensive Even for a scented candle No way I would buy that No offense to those who like them You do you For me, the smell from those is often so overpowering and artificial that it gives me a terrible headache Whenever I am at Ikea, I try to be quick to pass through the section with the scented candles Sometimes I even hold my breath
Comment from : Odd One Out

MarkBonerea
so much knowledge about candles, who knew
Comment from : MarkBonerea

Wayne Smallwood
Must be rich to throw away unburned candle wax Doesn't know how to reuse wax?
Comment from : Wayne Smallwood

Knotly 1
Container candles are almost always made with too small a wick This is because the manufacturer desires the longest burn possible per unit or They are just ignorant Taller containers are typically more functional and have larger wicks due to the fact if they didn't the sidewalk burn would swamp the wick Temperature in the room will affect candle burn efficiency, type of wax, type of wick as well as length of time of and between each burnbr Containerless candles burn faster, can lose center and drain off one or more sides thus rapid burn takes effect, 4 oz of tall skinny dinner candles will burn out faster than a 1/4 oz tealite brTrust the science
Comment from : Knotly 1

poetmaggie1
I have made candles with the left over wax
Comment from : poetmaggie1

Dazfast
I'm going to condense this down to physics in a few words and not woohoo pseudoscience babble lol It's physics, the flame isn't hot enough because the wick isn't big enough, no such thing as memory, if the candle doesn't have a large enough wick it will never! melt all the wax There simple no woowoo
Comment from : Dazfast

Joy Aroozoo Olsen
Just get on with it

Kentololable

Comment from : Julie Barnett

Eva Buchberger
and never ever arrange several candles directly next to each other, please they can heat up each other and the whole ensamble can go up in flames! very dangerous!
Comment from : Eva Buchberger

C
You can cut up the unburned wax and use it like you do the wax cubes in wax melting burners that use a bulb under to heat it That way you don’t waste it
Comment from : C

Ronnie Being Ronnie
Here is a reason to not blow out candles:brI leaned over a big candle with three wicks, and iwhooosh/i my long bangs caught on fire!brI got lucky…the fire didn’t spread and my skin didn’t burn I had funky hair for a few months, but it could have been much worse
Comment from : Ronnie Being Ronnie

Loving_Lioness
I DID find your tips useful! Thanks!
Comment from : Loving_Lioness

Salted Denim
Lol, I just put tunneled out candles on a candle warmer and use up the wax that way Lol
Comment from : Salted Denim

C Taylor
Better still, don't use candles at all (unless they're beeswax) because the vapour given off by paraffin wax candles,--which most candles are--is carcinogenic
Comment from : C Taylor

Stevie Ray
I would never be able to burn candles if i waited to light one until i had enough time for them to burn all the way out to the edge
Comment from : Stevie Ray

TravelWell
Well even if there is tunnelling, I absolutely don’t throw away the excess wax When the candle is finished, I put a tealight in the middle
Comment from : TravelWell

Allanis theGreat
use a candle warmer and enjoy your scented candles way longer than burning does and it's cleaner air
Comment from : Allanis theGreat

MsJoybird1
You can push the wax down after burning for a little while Extinguish the flame and with the back of a spoon push the wax built up on the side down! I have done this and it works!!
Comment from : MsJoybird1

My Big Mouth
I'd also add another tip: Don't have a candle near a computer or other electronic device that has cooling fans, as this will suck any soot particles in the air into the device and can clog up the fans, which will compromise the efficiency of the cooling
Comment from : My Big Mouth

Jeremy Byington
BEFORE: Oh, that would be great to know!brbrAFTER: Uhh, I don’t need a university degree majoring in Candle Care I think I am at peace with just letting them tunnel
Comment from : Jeremy Byington

Comment from : Scientea

Soldier for Jesus Christ
You can save a candle if you already have a build up Simply place your candle/candles in a pot of water on the stove and boil them on medium heat Do not submerge the candles in the water, just enough water to cover the wax in the jar Make sure that you keep the wicks straight while boiling I myself use the lollipop sticks Boil until all the wax has melted This will give you a flat wax surface again Hope this helps I make candles myself all the time
