I noticed at the end an implication that tar was the problem in cigarettes, not nicotine While tar is pretty clearly the main source of carcinogens leading to lung cancer, it clearly can't be the whole story, as tar is specifically the products associated with combustion and non-smoked tobacco is well established to cause cancers Nicotine itself may not be implicated in cancer, but as soon as "other diseases" are mentioned a can of worms is opened Clearly nicotine has cardiovascular effects, notably a temporary increase in heart rate and blood pressure, and I think it would be really hard to give nicotine a clean bill of health even by itselfbrbrAs for whipping up some nicotine in a home lab That's not necessary at all as you can grow tobacco in your garden or flower bed The quality control isn't so great as what the industry currently provides, but that's likely still a better option than a home lab doing organic chemistry

My dad used to smoke pretty regularly starting when he went to college but he never really did it that heavily, money was tight But he ended up quitting when I was born because his brother brought him a fairly expensive cigar to celebrate me being born He also had no idea how to smoke a cigar, but he knew how to smoke cigarettes, so how different could they possibly even be? It was probably one of the most unpleasant experiences of his entire life But he felt like he had to smoke the whole thing because his bro said it was so expensive

Adding to the menthol discussion, menthol does have anti-inflammatory effects, but it needs to be in such high concentrations that it really is only usable in cream or ointment form; inhaling that much menthol would seize your airways due to irritation In fact, menthol is also antibacterial, but it pretty much needs to be undiluted for that; it has no use for humans since menthol is a strong irritant for skin and mucosabrbrBut of course propaganda doesn't care for facts
