Sorry I'm commenting on an old video but I dont think the translating feature on Bookmate is free anymore it says "You need a subscription to translate words" their is not a lot about the website so I cant tell if its just like this now, or if I'm doing something wrong ):

Mango actually does the same thing as Glossika, they are free for all the minority languages they offer, even if you don't have a library account with access I used their Shanghainese course, it's very basic and I don't like their method (way too output heavy) But for a language like that, you take what you can get tbh

It's only been a week, but my 8yo has found Duolingo a fun way to introduce himself to Chinese Mandarin, and my daughter has found learning French to be a fun experience Even my wife, who doesn't typically like gamified learning, has found it a fun experience learning Latin As for an introduction to learning a language, Duolingo has made it a fun experience and look forward to moving to other forms of learning languages and apps

I like Mango because even in the US, with Québec bordering the country, it's difficult to find something focused on that style of French Mango gives the option of French or French-Canadian Also two options for Spanish, Memrise does this also

Everyone knows duolingo sucks, i am Czech, and i tried to learn Czech, and its absolutly stupid, example - Dobrý den, děkuji ( Hello formal, thank you) Thats absolutly wrong and you are not learning any form of grammer Basicly you can't say Hello, thank you it makes no sensebrbrand therefore I really recommend the applications that are in the video

I’m fairly early on in my journeys to learn French and Mandarin and I am using Duolingo pretty successfully so far, however what I’m also doing along side it is some of what was suggested in this video…I watch movies and programs in these languages and I listen to music in them too, looking at the lyrics in the target language if it’s a video In addition I joined a worldwide pen pal site and have pen pals whose first language is either French or Chinese and a small amount (so far but will grow) of our correspondence is in those languages With my Chinese pen pal we exchange audio files so that she can critique my grasping of the tonal elements of the language

here's the thing duolingo is good for parents wanting their young kids to learn a language its format, characters and lessons are perfect for someone young already not super advanced in their fist language however, for anyone over 10 trying to learn a language, it isn't great and i say this as someone who is older and started spanish on there as others have said before, its lessons can be useful but after a while are very repetitive and boring, teaching you phrases that you like likely never use, such as '¿tú comes manzanas?' (do you eat apples?) it's good for learning singular words, but not actual phrases that you would use irl on the daily given the opportunity to
