This is insane Xioamanyc, you a polyglot guy and it's amazing but unfortunately a lot of people have no experience learning abroad languages than youbrbrI am not complaining cause I learnt mostly of English structure and grammar ( empirically ) and you feel reliable on yourself when you see your real progressbrbrEverything it's high-strung but it's ok brSoo I begun learning English using duolingo and Now I can "communicate" fluently and clearlybrbrRecently I begun with french and I'm overwhelmed by french phonetic hahahabrbrNice content dude, I hope see ya more Comment from : Fredy Jacob Choxóm Martinez |
I learnt italian and russian with Pimsleur and Rosetta Stone at the same time Pimsleur gave too much confidence to speak traveling and the vocabulary of Rosetta Stone helped to add a lot to Pimsleur The rest is just keep talking with locals traveling alone Must say the fastest way to learn a language is falling in love and working hard to speak her language Comment from : ducadj |
Babbel seems good but they only offer a few languages so it's a pass for me Any suggestions for learning language when driving? That's the time I have available Comment from : J Vega |

Honestly most of these apps aren't that great for learning a language I see a lot of potential in Ai in helping people learn languages though That's why I'm building an app that does the spaced repetition plus Ai flashcards and documenting it on my channel Comment from : Joshua Godwin |
I don’t think you’re their target audience I’ve found Duolingo excellent As someone who failed to be inspired at school by languages I tried again in my 40s and am amazed by how much I’m learning from Duolingo 20mins a day may not be intense for someone who makes a business from learning multiple languages and videoing himself But for the average guy working full time with a young family 20 mins a day is definitely an intense time commitment Comment from : Kyanite |
Holy shit, babel was insane The first two my brain was just like whatever, but with a babble literally by the time you got to the quiz of the conversation I understood what the fuck they were saying I’m ordering it now! Habla Español!! Comment from : Eric In SF |
One of the dumbest languages Comment from : Samiam |
I don't know how you can judge any service just by using it for a few minutes However, having never used Babbel, after watching this video I wouldn't be able to tell it apart from Duolingo, apart from it using Ameican accented Spanish Comment from : Polite Fan |
so what is the best app to learn a language i wanna learn polish Comment from : OverMixed |
dulingo is good if your a native germanic language speaker and want to learn another germanic language and dont know where to start Comment from : Tyler Redforge |

he didnt use them enough to judge them tbh Comment from : RyLeigh Rice |
If these aren't great strategies, what is the best strategy? Comment from : Marc |
Haven't used the others but Duolingo has done okay at reminding & expanding my forgotten German from school as well as starting Welsh A friend who speaks about 4 languages already said like it'll never get you to any advanced level but as you say the fact is it's fun, and the leaderboards and streaks that it adds with the other gamification means that for a lot of people it's a good way to at least learn something where they otherwise may have been learning nothing Same reason they have a low minimum study time, to make learning languages as approachable as possible even if you're not ready to commit a lot of time/work Comment from : Ninjadudewhat |
I like duolingo for repetitive reinforcement of the gender of nouns in German and portuguese Comment from : brian McGoldrick |
the only language app i will use is lingq 😄 Comment from : soph |
I think babble would be like throwing someone who doesn’t know how to swim into the deep end A few people would catch on and learn but the mass would drown Comment from : Hershey Skwertz |
Bro did half of a memrise lesson and reviewed it 😂😂 Comment from : FlopDog |
Oh hes artist Comment from : Костя C |
Pimsleur is better by far You haven't seen the full contents of the lessons Reading, writing, pronunciation, and listening comprehension And you are right, I use it for my walks Comment from : Jung Sa |
i really don't like that on duolingo you're forced to the the lessons in a particular order this sucks because i can't jump to the sections i find interesting and usefull! Comment from : Matthew Seymour |
With duolingo being free, you really might as well throw it into your learning as a supplement Comment from : AnnaBee |
You left out Rocket Languages bro! Im doing rocket italian and its just as good as pimsueler but to me its more participation Comment from : DazE AheaD |
I like Duolingo but I can't retain the things I learned so that's what I don't like about it Im a instrumental tutor so I have methods to teach and I think it can improve Comment from : Diamond Zieman |
Duolingo is slow AF to start, but I am enjoying it Eventually they give you difficult things to do The thing Duolingo does well is that it makes it easy for me to do it everyday I'm on a 45 day streak for my Turkish lessons as we speak Comment from : Fitz |
I think it depends how serious you want to get about it I have been learning spanish on Duolingo and to be honest I don't care if I make some grammatical mistakes or put the word in the wrong place, I just want the other person to understand me and for me to understand them brbrIt's like some foreigners that come to the UK They don't speak English quite correct but I understand them perfectly and to me that is all that matters Comment from : Liam Weatherhead |
There is no daily time limit in Duolingo You can do as much as you want Duolingo has a conversation at the beginning of every chapter, like Babble Duolingo also has a preview of what each chapter is about It has tips to help remind the user of a word Part of each lesson is writing full sentences from a spoken sentence I use ChatGPT in conjunction with Duolingo to help with verb conjunction and as a 24/7 available teacher to answer questions the moment they appear in my mind I find that the app keeps me engaged Every week, you have 30 different people in the class The classes are divided into Advancing students, those that stay where they are and some that are demoted, so the is an incentive to keep upbrI had some experience with Spanish by associating with so many Spanish speakers but never tried very hard to learn the language and zipped through the first section very fast but came to a point where I needed to slow down, check my competitive nature and make sure I really was learning I'm very happy with Duolingo brThis fellow didn't spend nearly enough time for a complete evaluation Comment from : Joel |
I get very confuse in Chinese learning on Duolingo Comment from : karan gaming yt |
Rosetta Stone isn’t terrible, though I agree it’s no master course in linguistics It does get progressively harder as you go, naturally I’m sorta biased to the program myself as I’m a very visually oriented learner and the pictures help I’ve went from hacking out Spanish to understanding most conversations in about a month worth of study I really need to practice my speaking though, I sound like I have a potato in my mouth as my Mexican husband puts it😂😂😅 Comment from : Picashlio |
Babble went WAY too fast for beginners who know nothing- Comment from : Cuddly Mochi |
Duolingo allows you to skip specific lessons if you already have a foundation, letting you learn grammar, sentence structure fairly quickly when YOU are ready Love your vids ❤ Comment from : MackMiggy |
Duolingo the average lesson is like 3 minutes, if I can do that once a day and learn at least what a word looks like and it's meaning in set Comment from : JmurrayGaming |
duolingo is really basic when learning italian but i also try to listen to italian musicians, watch italian shows with captions, and journal my learning process Comment from : valentina |
Pimsleur is my favorite It kinda encourages you off the bat to start talking Although i will say you will need some basic understanding For example Spanish, I think you really need know subjects and basic conjugation They don’t really explain for someone completely new to the language Comment from : TristanD |
I used only Rosetta Stone for 2 years to learn Chinese and finally gave up 15 years later, I’ve been using Duolingo for 25 days and understand so much more that being said, Im also listening to Chinese podcasts, and watching Chinese children’s cartoons 😅 我很高兴。 Comment from : Amir Haynes |
Pimsleur rocks Comment from : MJH |
Duolingo is great for learning basic vocab if you're a complete noob Comment from : Leo NA |
Been using duolingo haha Comment from : pit fa11 |
It’s so much easier to jump into more faster when you’re an English speaker learning Spanish rather than an English speaker learning Chinese… Comment from : FattyBoyCage |
Duolingo fans are crazy No matter where you go online if you don't love duo, you'll see them in the comments It's like a cult Comment from : Steve Griffith |

buusu? Comment from : 4DLER |
Wooooow…Babbel is like the exact copy of Duolingo lmaooo similar layout and types of exercises, exact copy of Duolingo stories etc I actually prefer Duolingo bc it starts out with the basics of basics If I’m starting from 0 I wouldn’t want the app to throw full sentences at me when I don’t know anything Comment from : Sara Cajner |
Busuu and Babbel win for me, and a few hours with a tutor one on one using preply Comment from : Ryan A |
Hey I gotta say I appreciate you and this video I’m a subscriber on both tiktok and YouTube and have loved your videos and loved how much people genuinely appreciate people taking the time to learn their language Always watch with a smile and am trying to learn Spanish as I am a car salesman and I feel a lot of people in my area are missing out on genuine treatment and honest business because of a language barrier and I see a ton of folk trying hard to learn English and I feel like more Americans should meet in the middle Comment from : Stephen Vierra |
Do you recommend babble Comment from : 94_pu |
"Intense is only 20 minutes a day!!"brbrYoooo I'm glad someone finally said it And its not just duolingo Its crazy that these apps would label 20 minutes a day as intense Serious learners of a language count intense in the hours Comment from : Vitiore Lara |
Memrise is great give it more time Comment from : mjrvi |
I like how the comments all come to the opposite conclusion of xiaoma I wonder if people actually want to learn the language or if they just like the gamification? Comment from : winnie the poop |
Nothing beats Pimsleur!!! I’m learning Thai and after the first lesson, I could understand the conversation knowing NOTHING about the language!!! MUCH better if you’re an auditory learner Comment from : Matt Luz |
Some under appreciated parts of Duolingo for me are the podcast episodes (which helped me get my Spanish past conversational to a higher level), and the fact that it’s free I think you unfairly judged many of these language apps by learning a language you already know Comment from : Kijav Nash |
I like that duolingo is free, babel does seem more xiomanyc style, in duolingo you'll be a good week into it at a hour or so a day before they throw you in the deep end with full on conversations Comment from : gerfd gergdf |
Just got babble Comment from : Poker Addict |
Pimsluer also teaches you how to read and write Comment from : lonelyteaparty |
To learn English ,I used Rosetta software,I completed four cds, and I got a really good basic at the time Comment from : Yow bro |
I like your stylealthough I'm suspicious that you may actually be getting paid by Babbel I just subscribed I'm interested in acquiring a language, but I'd like to learn one with the least amount of effort Sounds lazy, I know I got a book Fluent Forever That book boggled my mind One can learn a language in a very short period of time, essentially by immersing themselves in the language? WOW! I have an idea what that is about I live in Texas I SHOULD know how to speak Spanish, by now, in theory I go to Spanish learning websites frequently Thanks again Comment from : bill mimms |
My study routine for French:br1 Pimsleurbr2 Assimil bilingual workbookbr3 Language exchanges with native speakers on the HelloTalk appbr4 Improve grammar using standard Grammar textbooksbr5 Online tutor to validate my essays and other writingsbrbrHolistic language learning cannot be crammed into a single app Comment from : Sumanth Lazarus |
That's why they learn a language it will emerge yourself in that Coulter And do not eat or anything and see how fast you learn I'm from Venezuela Comment from : William Wroldsen |
Duolingo gets you started, and is great for that By the time it gets pedantic and frustrating, it's time to look for other sources There are these two lovely French women, Elisa and Nelly, who give great videos that are a good next step for French, and I wish there was something similar in other languages: all the content in the target language, but simple, and clear speech Comment from : John Allsup |
8:49 I certainly didn't learn what all of those spoken sentences meant Duolingo builds up to the same format, but you learn what all the words mean before you get this far Comment from : X-Tech Gam!nG |
I LOVE Pimsleuer I use it for Japanese while I'm at work Comment from : JelloFluoride |
I actually prefer the free version of Duolingo, because when you make to many mistakes it makes you go back and redo lesson for practice I am good at memorizing things, but I forget it very fast if I don't practice enough Comment from : NatureWithNic |
I loved Pimsleur but it's a bummer they did not provide more than basic course for the language I was interested in Still a great kick starter Comment from : Laura Doku |
Despues de usar duolingo por largo tiempo, comencé a utilizar Rosetta Stone y puedo decir que me encanto Rosetta, por que considero que aprendo mejor visualmente y aparte se enfoca mucho en la pronunciación de palabras desde lo mas básico y sucesivamente va aumentando la dificultad Lo único que Rosetta no tiene son temas de motivación para aprender como duolingo, pero es lo de menos si realmente quieres aprender un idioma Comment from : Diana Paola Godinez |
What do you recommend for learning Greek? Comment from : David Joseph |
Pimsleur is my favorite for getting over that first 2-3 month hump as a dead zero beginner Comment from : Chris Hardy |
I have used pimsleur for Norsk and I have had lots of success with it It is great to be able to hear a conversation and listen/respond like you are the one actually speaking to the person Comment from : DT_Does |
The best thing about this is only spending 10 mins on each without seeing their entire program It's like rating a book based on the opening sentence Super useful 😂 Comment from : Anthony Falteisek |
As someone who has achieved a high level of proficiency in Japanese, English, and German, I know that relying solely on language learning apps and academies is inadequate My preferred method of language learning is through LingQ and extensive reading With input, input, and more input Using language learning apps alone, you won't be able to learn expressions like 脱兎の如く逃げて行く in Japanese To reach that level of fluency, you need to read extensively and immerse yourself in the language Comment from : Bauti |
Mango Languages is awesome Comment from : Jam Junction FM |
The shape of your nose indicates that you are Jewish 🤓 Comment from : me imad |
my tip is to use a language app but ALSO take many steps to tech yourself Comment from : KazBodnar |
I combine duo, along with listening to dramas, and researching grammar and sentence structures My Chinese is getting pretty good I love that Duolingo taught me to read Chinese characters Comment from : Kay Kay |
Does anyone have some good resources for English native learning Serbian? Comment from : Nash Oba |
Lol this is so funny 😂 the apps we put ourselves through to learn our languages I will checkout how you learn languages if you have a video? I will check out babble looks good! Respect for all the languages you have learnt The Native American was my most favourite language you learnt! Comment from : M Sadiq |
He would do well to speak better English without “and um” and “you know” It’s mind numbing to the person listening to him Comment from : Samuel Howell |
Useless language applications for no reasoning purchase them Only Just by extensive voluntary reading considering your ability, practicing them more and more can be a very more effective way than other ways on high tech Throw educational illusion away !! No critical effectiveness!! Never!! Just leaving useless illusions disguised with funny or self effective fullness Comment from : 고운아침 |
if you want to learn a language without giving a dime while also getting a load of knowledge from it, i can recommend you either duolingo or memrise if you create or join a classroom in duolingo you will have infinite hearts which allow you to learn as many lessons as your heart desires memrise on the other hand you do not need a subscription since you still get a lot from it and i also like the video examples which does help me with pronunciation Comment from : 11O6 |
