The life 25 life expectancy is a little missleading It's greatly lowered by high infant mortality If you remove deaths before the age of 5 you'll get like 50 years for the average labourer, which is about as much as most of human history

You forgot to mention workhouses/poorhouses If your family were too poor or infirm, you'd get the chance to be sent off to a workhouse where you would shack up with 100's of other people and work shitty jobs to earn your bed and board These workhouses were difficult to distinguish from 'houses of correction' and were even called "prisons for the poor" That's where the beginning of Oliver Twist was set
