To make it easier to understand which is grandpa and which is grandma, we use a simple mnemonic rule with the kids, grandpa uses a hat(^ on "vovô") and grandma likes to knit (´ on "vovó" wouldbe a knit needle) That's how we teach our kids the difference between a closed o ("ô" like the o in ocean) and an open o ("ó" like the o in hot) Comment from : Cássio Antônio Ferreira Hilário |

I think Shallen is too worried about mispronouncing words as a white American because she keeps pointing out that she's butchering the words because she's white (when all the girls are, in fact, white) Her issue is not her skin color or being American, it's her lack of confidence There were a couple times I think the girls could have slowed down for her in the beginning, but she hardly tried the Spanish words considering she said she's studied Spanish and is familiar with ItalianbrbrI'm black American, I studied Spanish for 4 years and spoke it decently (even though I understand it much better when I hear or read it), often to my coworkers who spoke Spanish If I ever mispronounced a word or used the wrong word, they just corrected me and explained it as best they could in English, too Same with my Chinese friends when I speak Mandarin to them If you are confident, you will get better! But stopping halfway in the middle of the word because you're embarrassed about the pronunciation won't help Even rolling the R is not that hard, but I think she doesn't practice because she'd worried about looking silly I find that foreigners are a lot more willing to speak English incorrectly than Americans are to even attempt a single foreign word Comment from : Mirukururun |
