我来自中国，现在正在日本旅游。我个人英语比较流利，不会说日语（但我简单看过五十音图，知道一些主要的平假名和片假名的发音）。到了日本之后，我可以只通过看指示牌/通知/菜单里的日文的汉字部分，就能理解这段文字大概50-70的意思。有趣的是，我发现日本人很喜欢把一些英文单词用片假名写出来，比如bus👉🏻バス，如果一段日文中有类似的单词，并且我正好知道对应的这几个片假名怎么读的话，我能把这部分内容转译成英文然后再翻译成中文😂大部分情况下，这样能帮我补齐10-20的信息量br因此，即使我一句日文也不会说，我走在日本街头/到处坐地铁/自己买新干线跨城旅游，也不会遇到太大障碍（当然仅限于阅读，如果需要和人交流我会直接用英文😂）

I speak fluently in Japanese these days and recently tried studying both Korean and Chinese Surprisingly, I found Chinese easier to readbrbrI memorised all the Hangul characters, but I still found myself trying to decipher Hangul characters sound by sound I’m sure this would go away with practice, but compared with Chinese characters where I just immediately know the sound by looking at the characters, it was actually much easier for me to get started in ChinesebrbrI’m sure Korean gets much easier once you get faster at reading Hangul characters though

There is this questionable video from "FluentU" (comments were closed last time I was there) which assumed that a language will be dominant in the future mainly because of cultural popularity Not quite It did not happen with Japan Everybody thought they would rule the world in the 80s Well, the language does have a presence abroad, but Japanese is not exactly dominant globally nor is it projected to be despite the impact of anime on pop culture But at least it still has the third largest economy on earth So it is curious why he thinks another country which is not even comparable to China in diplomatic influence and foreign investments (or poised to respond to Beijing's rise militarily sometime in the future) should do any better

Japanese is rly good because although there's three writing systems, katakana and hiragana are same sounds, different symbols Also both are organized well and the pronunciation and name of letter is the same No hard to differentiate sounds like in Chinese, and also Japan is better (definitely no bias) Korean is also good, but we have anime We also have sushi, we have better karaoke, and we have nicer roads and trains Pls come to Japan (and not just Tokyo) I recommend Kawagoe, Saitama I definitely don't have family there

한국 사람으로서 한국어는 진짜 조그만 차이로 뜻이 다른 게 많고 (아 다르고 어 다르다 하듯) 높임말 종류도 많아서 외국 분들이 배우면 어느정도까지는 잘할 수 있지만 진짜 잘하게 되기는 한국인이랑 대화하면서 살지 않는한 힘들 것 같음
