Nobody who’s on SSDI or SSI should ever have to pay a dime in taxes Especially SSDI those who are disabled should definitely never have to pay any type of tax
Comment from : Jeff I

Almoe Mason
Where are people getting the idea that social security is double taxed? I don't think that is true The taxes are treated the same as on a 401k The money withheld from your pay check for FICA is not taxed at the time it is collected, just like 401k contributions, and when you file your tax returns it's not part of your taxable income, so just like when you take distributions from a 401k, you must pay taxes If you have a Roth IRA you don't pay taxes on the distributions because for contributions are after tax dollars

Doris Reyes
Truly appreciate your video Since this bill applies to us seniors why don’t they let the people vote on this issue same as we have to vote for officers in the country Have worked for these benefits and don’t need others trying to manage our funds We all need to reach out to our congressman to consider this bill Many never receive their benefits due to death Those republicans should be force to donate 50 of their salary to social security☝️

Comment from : Faye B

Mark L
With only 8 states taxing SS payments, why not list them for us? A slide displayed for 3-5 seconds would be fine!
Comment from : Mark L

Robert Zantay
Most of us get less than $25,000 from our SSI, and even if we have a small pension it is still less than $30,000 so this video is about people who are much more wealthy than I Tax the Rich!
Comment from : Robert Zantay

John Carnettie
Congress Approves increase in Congress's retirement
Comment from : John Carnettie

Kevin Hayes
I called my Congressman and asked him to support and co-sponsor HR 3206 I also plan to call all the members of the Social Security subcommittee in Ways and Means to request they move this bill forward and pass it It's such a no-brainer, not at all controversial, and not remotely partisan A very simple 2 page bill If my rough math is correct, passing this bill would have a less than 1 impact to the revenue collected by the Federal government Everybody on Social Security should call their HR Representative and request they pass this bill
Comment from : Kevin Hayes

Francis Campagna
Still doesn't deal with lack of funding for SS Major SS cut coming soon No one in Washington really cares

Comment from : Charles

Brian Gasser
The US is running large deficits to fund entitlement programs Who is going to fund all of this if we keep reducing inflows with tax breaks? Fairness would be to adjust the thresholds when the tax rates take effect, not eliminate it
Comment from : Brian Gasser

Catalina Woody
All seniors should vote Republican, democrats want to tax people to death
Comment from : Catalina Woody

Richard Mathis
This video is a game changer, I have been looking for the best way to increase my income and start up my retirement, but I really do not know much about investments and trading stocks I keep postponing every single day that passes, but I want to begin now How should I start? What do I need to know?
Comment from : Richard Mathis

maccattack
If your employer is able to write off the 50 that they pay into your social security ( the payroll tax) I kind of understand why the feds tax it , but it should never have gone over the 50 of your ss income At the very least they should raise the thresholds, they are way to low Good job explaining
Comment from : maccattack

Arkansas Traveler
Will this affect taxes on SSDI?

Comment from : mike breidenbach

J T
We were shocked at how expensive Medicare Part B and parts D and N supplements are The costs are much higher than I was paying while working plus we have deductibles and co-pays for drugs and doctor visits Medicare related costs take a huge chunk out of our monthly social security benefits The premiums for parts B and D are subtracted from our SS benefits before we receive them If someone is subject to the IRMAA surcharge, the Medicare costs can get very high
Comment from : J T

Linda N
Well, I'll beI now understand the 50 & 85 thing! After 12 years on SS, I could never wrap my wits around how the calculation was done Your explanation was so clear and so easy to understand I am definitely subscribing to your channel in case you have any other videos that clear up mysteries for me Thanks so much!
Comment from : Linda N

Comment from : unki3259

Thomas Mitchell
Okay everyone here some great news look up "nessara" most taxes Will be eliminated when pres Trump comes back Surprise!
Comment from : Thomas Mitchell

Eric Ullman
It’s not a double tax SS benefits are paid by both employee and employer FICA contributions Your employee contribution is taxed but the employer portion is not because employers actually get a deduction for the half they contribute That justifies the tax on half of your SS payment It’s just like when you contribute to a Roth IRA and your employer contributes a matching amount The matching amount is taxed when you start withdrawing it A similar argument can be made for taxing 85 of SS As explained, the first 50 of the tax is taxing your employer’s pretax contribution and the next 35 is taxing the earnings on your original employee contribution Again, it’s just like you had taken your SS employee contribution and invested it You would still owe tax on the earnings that have accumulated SS is really like a forced defined contribution retirement plan with the difference being the returns are not as good because you’re helping to fund the less fortunate, the disabled, widows of deceased working spouses and their young children
Comment from : Eric Ullman

Made with Scraps
Isn't this strange how the bill comes to mention during Biden's supposed reelection run? Personally, I think it is another lie by Joe Biden and his criminal empire in order of others changing their opinion of and voting for him I would love to be incorrect
Comment from : Made with Scraps

John Armstrong
It seems like all congress should agree I'd like to see the windfall profit tax repealed
Comment from : John Armstrong

DIY TWOinCollege
We shouldn’t have to pay any tax on the money we receive from SS until we get back all of the $ we sent to SS
Comment from : DIY TWOinCollege

Gary Martin
SS is a mostly closed system with respect to funding Although income taxation on benefits is not a major source of revenue for the system it is several percent of total Take that away and the system runs out of money before 2034
Comment from : Gary Martin

S CT
About time, it’s really unfair to tax SS payments
Comment from : S CT

Michael Torrey
I’m not sure this is a good idea The taxes on SS benefits go to the SS trust fund It’s going to run out of money in 2034 as it is now
Comment from : Michael Torrey

lonewolf82007
When I see videos saying there's a bill being introduced, my first thought is; its just a bill our political parties are sharply divided and the reason we don't see the money being increased, taxes eliminated on ssi etc, is infighting that hurts the elderly and the poor I will believe it only when I see a video saying; hey, it happened! They passed it LOL!
Comment from : lonewolf82007

Fatty Matty
Oh wow great news! $33,000,000,000,000 in federal debt and we’re raising benefits even more Nice job America This is what you wanted Idiots

Eliminating is great If not, the Raise those threshold amounts way up!
Comment from : DrBassFace

Jeffrey LaPlante
What asshole comes up with these formulas, and why didn't they take into account that if the government had invested my SSI Tax? I would be a millionaire and probably would not mind paying a small tax on the profits But because all they did was take my money and now, there are no profits, they want to take more of it I am basically ticked off at the Congress and the lawyers and accopu8ntants who have made the federal tax code so freaking complicated
Comment from : Jeffrey LaPlante

Dennis W
The real travesty is they never indexed those thresholds with inflation Very few paid taxes on SS in 1986 while most of us do today
Comment from : Dennis W

Blue horseshoe

Comment from : Richie Tattersall

Heather Do
Thank you,Sir
Comment from : Heather Do

James Alias
The reason the tax was put in place was to fund social security, they knew that it would end up taxing more and more people, but they also knew that social security was underfunded in the long term Since the law initially didn't affect anyone except the higher income earners, they knew that they could just ignore it and let inflation tax more and more income to help the shortfall to some extent So they just kicked the can down the road, until it gets bad
Comment from : James Alias

Mark McBride
In Nevada you have to there and I do 12

John Keogh
So it hasn’t passed in over a decade, what is different today? Why do we even think this NOW has a chance of passing this time? It is all political pandering for optics… the illusion of doing something for their constituents I call BS Flag

I'm on SSDI for the rest of my life until I reach retirement age I became disabled in my mid-fifties Because my wife works and makes under $100,000 Still are getting killed by taxes Also I live in Colorado which taxes Social Security benefits about twenty thousand a year I sure hope something is done soon I feel like we are always drowning in taxes
Comment from : Scott Heinz

Rolling Man Cave
Although, once again, the higher incomes will benifit most from the new legislation That being said, nobody should be double taxed Funny the money has not been going into the SS fund Pass the popcorn
Comment from : Rolling Man Cave

Joe
Thank the so called great Ronald Reagan for the tax on Social Security A rich guy/republican making working people pay taxes on a tax Nice Don't believe for a moment that congress will illuminate that tax Generates about 50b in revenue Can't tax ebt card, Affordable housing, subsidies on health insurance but can tax the working person all the way to there grave
Comment from : Joe

TonyStormcloud
