Hunted this video down over half a decade after being shown it in school so that I could leave a hate comment I doodled in my notes when I was seventeenbr"ADHD is real, stupid narrator guy, and there's nothing 'debatable' about it Would you like to see me go off my meds? I think not because hey, guess what, ADHD drugs do wake up actual ADHD people The other stuff was all interesting and some of it very true, but you lose credibility when you say stuff like that the existence of ADHD is debatable"brI'd revise it now to point out that ADHD drugs are a stimulant and not make it sound like I'd go crazy without my meds, but I scribbled that note down on a Friday afternoon in a dark classroom and wrote "I'm too tired" on the same page

ADHD is very real and is supported under the disability act ADHD can be debilitating to all areas of life without adequate supports in place While Ken was very knowledgeable, he was not up to date with the current findings in neuroscience There is no debate or question on whether it is real, it is science

I love this vid BUT we know a LOT more about ADHD now I am 45, spent my life literally mentally wrecked, was mis-diagnosed with all sorts of mental illness, had four total mental breakdowns, nothing helped, for decades Did all the therapies all the mindfullness, thought about adhd in the same way this Vid does Was diagnosed Audhd (autistic and adhd) at 45, and put on the ADHD stuff It worked Almost instantly I had spent my whole life fighting my own head to control my emotions and reactions and non stop obsessive thoughts that literally exhausted me ADHD is very very very real and about a lot more than focus

The second half is great, but oh, how I wish the first half hadn't been presented the way it was ADHD is not "up for debate", and Adderall and Ritalin aren't "anesthetizing" They're stimulants What happens if you put a kid on ADHD meds and they don't have ADHD? They'll be bouncing the walls! brbrHe's right that it's not an epidemic, because the rate of occurrence hasn't increased: the rate of diagnosis has, because ADHD presents in ways that weren't recognized when only studying white, upper middle class boys When you expand your sample to represent the population, you find out why having your norming group match said population really matters

I have to have a serious talk with my 14 yr old He came to me about a similar situation how the schools are a system and he sometimes feel like a robot My 14 yr old was literally crying I told him school is not for everyone, however, you will at least get a high school diploma After that you can do as you I have to tell him and let him know that his ideas matter and I apologize if I came off harsh with our pervious conversation Thank you for showing me another way

Great food for thought There’s a lot here to unpack, though many points accepted as or glossed over as “fact” deserve a lot more examination and discussion And I will say that while I agree with many of his proposals, one must take into account the unavoidable fact that money plays a huge role in the kind and quality of public education that can be offered There’s also the facts that a wide spectrum of beliefs and opinions exists in the “public” and that any sort of singular system usually ends up being some sort of compromise that (hopefully) will provide the greatest benefit to the most children

While many things he says are true, he didn't understand adhd even in the slightest This especially obvious at 6:15 I have adhd I can't enjoy art (neither passive or active) without my medication because my thoughts are stampeding ALL THE TIME But with my medication the stampede stops and I finally am able to even recognize what's happening on stage in the theatre for example The medication is not deadening me, it keeps me alive He said it himself: He is not qualified to judge adhd, and he shouldn't

I have been saying this for so long, not as detailed as this gentleman but verbally Proof is definitely there I work in mindset mentoring for kids and have trying to get this into schools in Australia Not every child is the same, none of us are and we all have a uniqueness within us, including in which the way we learn This has opened my eyes even wider than before My daughter is studying to be a teacher, I'll be showing her this as soon as she gets home I am more determined and driven now to get my vision out there So far I have contacted 55 schools with my mindset mentoring to teach kids how to make decisions, about money and life skills We are just taught knowledge in school

This describes all that is wrong with our Education system A couple of things missing- a) in most countries we force kids to all wear the same UNIFORM b) the academic year is mostly based around the AGRICULTURAL& RELIGIOUS calendars None of this is as relevant to kids or the world in 2021 We educate them in boxes that are cut off from the rest of daily life, surrounded by tall fences Our kids are institutionalised
